Overview

The Traxxas Springs, Front (progressive, +20% rate, Blue) (2 pcs) TRX6864 are custom-wound suspension components designed specifically to enhance the handling and performance of your RC short course truck. Whether you're a competitive racer or a weekend basher enjoying RC cars in the UK, these progressive-rate springs offer a sophisticated tuning solution that allows you to fine-tune your suspension setup to match your driving style, track conditions, and vehicle weight configuration. Progressive springs represent a significant step up from stock springs, providing the responsiveness needed for small bumps whilst maintaining the stiffness required to absorb hard landings and jumps with confidence.

These springs are engineered with progressive-rate technology, which means the spring rate gradually increases as it compresses. This clever design allows your RC vehicle to maintain compliance over small obstacles and rough terrain, absorbing minor bumps smoothly without harshness, whilst simultaneously providing progressive resistance to larger hits and heavy landings. This balance is crucial for maintaining traction, reducing pitch in corners, and improving overall handling characteristics. The +20% rate specification means these springs are 20% stiffer than the stock springs, making them ideal for heavier vehicle configurations, additional weight from larger motor combos, or drivers who prefer a more responsive, less compliant suspension setup.

If you own a Traxxas Slash 4X4, Ford Fiesta ST Rally, or similar RC short course truck, these springs are an essential upgrade that will transform your handling dynamics and give you competitive control over any terrain. The blue stripe colour coding makes identification quick and easy, and as a pair of front springs, they work perfectly alongside rear springs in matching or different rates to dial in your perfect setup.

Key Features

  • Progressive-rate suspension design — The springs feature a progressive-rate construction that provides small-bump compliance without compromising big-hit capability, meaning your RC truck maintains traction over rippled surfaces whilst remaining stiff enough to handle aggressive landings and high-speed jumps.
  • Custom-wound for optimal performance — These springs are specifically custom-wound to deliver responsive control over obstacles, providing superior handling compared to generic or inferior quality springs that may lose their characteristics over time.
  • +20% rate specification — The stiffer rate (20% above stock) makes these springs perfect for heavier vehicles, additional weight from upgraded motor combos like a 550 brushless motor, or drivers who prefer a more responsive and less bouncy suspension feel.
  • Colour-coded identification system — The blue stripe clearly identifies the spring rate, making it simple to distinguish between different rates in your spares box and ensuring you're always using the correct springs for your current setup.
  • Durable powdercoated finish — The white powdercoated coating guarantees lasting good looks, protecting the springs from corrosion and UV damage whilst maintaining aesthetic appeal, so your RC car looks as good as it performs.
  • Compatible with long shocks — These springs fit long Traxxas Ultra Shocks or Big Bore shocks that use 3768 spring retainers, ensuring reliable fitment and compatibility with premium Traxxas suspension components.
  • Sold as a pair — Each purchase includes two front springs, providing everything needed for a complete front suspension upgrade without additional purchases.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Springs Front TRX6864 represent engineering excellence in RC suspension tuning. These long progressive springs are manufactured to exacting standards, with custom winding that ensures consistent performance across the entire compression range. The progressive-rate design is particularly significant for RC enthusiasts in the UK who race or bash in varied conditions, as it allows the suspension to remain compliant during small-bump compliance whilst progressively stiffening as compression increases, ultimately preventing bottoming-out on hard landings. The +20% rate puts these springs in the stiffer category of Traxxas's spring range, which includes options from -20% (orange stripe) through -10% (green stripe), +10% (pink stripe), and +20% (blue stripe). This stiffness increase is ideal for vehicles running heavier brushless motor setups or for drivers who operate in high-grip environments where a stiffer suspension response delivers better lap times and more predictable handling. The white powdercoated finish isn't merely cosmetic—it provides a protective layer that extends the life of the springs, preventing rust and maintaining their appearance through countless hours of use. The spring retainer compatibility with 3768 retainers ensures these components integrate seamlessly into existing Traxxas suspension systems without modification. Unlike GTR shocks which have different spring mounting requirements, these springs are specifically engineered for compatibility with Ultra and Big Bore shock configurations, guaranteeing perfect fitment and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a progressive-rate spring and why should I upgrade to one? — A progressive-rate spring gradually increases in stiffness as it compresses, offering the best of both worlds: it allows your RC truck to absorb small bumps smoothly for better traction whilst providing increasing resistance to larger impacts and hard landings. This means less body roll in corners, better handling over jumps, and improved overall control. Upgrading from stock springs to Traxxas progressive springs transforms your handling characteristics and competitive capability.
  • What does the +20% rate mean and when should I use it? — The +20% rate means these springs are 20% stiffer than the stock springs fitted to your truck. Use them when your vehicle is heavier (due to additional weight or a brushless motor combo), when you prefer more responsive and less bouncy suspension feel, when racing in high-grip environments, or when you want to reduce pitch in corners during aggressive driving.
  • Are these springs suitable for beginners? — These springs are suspension tuning components designed for drivers who want to optimise their RC car's performance, so they're better suited to intermediate and advanced users who understand suspension setup. However, if you're upgrading from completely worn stock springs, these progressive springs will still deliver a noticeable improvement in handling.
  • Which RC models do these springs fit? — These springs are compatible with the Traxxas Slash 4X4, Traxxas Ford Fiesta ST Rally, and other Traxxas models that use long Ultra Shocks or Big Bore shocks with 3768 spring retainers. They do not fit GTR shock configurations.
  • Can I use these springs on my 2WD Slash? — These springs are designed for models using long Traxxas Ultra Shocks or Big Bore shocks. Some users have reported success fitting them to 2WD Slash models with the correct preload clips, but you should verify compatibility with your specific model before purchasing.
  • How do I choose between the different spring rates? — Traxxas offers springs in four rates: -20% (orange), -10% (green), +10% (pink), and +20% (blue). Choose -20% or -10% if your vehicle is lighter or you prefer a softer, more compliant suspension; choose +10% or +20% if your vehicle is heavier, running a brushless motor combo, or if you prefer a stiffer, more responsive feel.
  • Do I need front and rear springs? — Yes, for complete suspension tuning you should use springs in both front and rear positions. You can use the same rate front and rear, or mix rates to fine-tune your truck's handling balance.
