Technical Performance
The Traxxas Spur 78-tooth gears represent precision-engineered drivetrain components manufactured to exacting standards. Spur gears function as the primary power transmission element in RC car drivetrains, converting the rotational force from your brushless or brushed motor into forward and reverse motion. The 78-tooth specification indicates the exact number of teeth on the gear, which works in conjunction with your pinion gear (the smaller gear on the motor shaft) to establish your vehicle's overall gear ratio. This ratio determines how quickly your wheels rotate relative to motor speed — a critical factor affecting acceleration, top speed, and battery efficiency. By choosing the correct spur gear tooth count, RC drivers can optimise their vehicle's performance for specific driving conditions, whether that means aggressive acceleration for off-road racing or higher top speed for speed runs. The two-pack format ensures you're never caught without a backup gear, which is especially important for competitive drivers or those who regularly bash their RC models hard. These genuine LaTrax components are built from durable materials designed to withstand the stresses of serious RC driving, providing long service life and consistent performance across numerous driving sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a spur gear and why do I need replacement ones? — A spur gear is the main gear in your RC car's drivetrain that transfers power from the motor to your wheels. Over time, especially with heavy use or aggressive driving, spur gears can wear down, strip teeth, or become damaged. Having genuine replacement gears like these ensures your drivetrain continues to function smoothly and reliably, maintaining the acceleration and speed characteristics your LaTrax model was designed for.
- How do I know if my spur gear needs replacing? — Signs of a worn or damaged spur gear include slipping during acceleration, unusual grinding sounds from the drivetrain, loss of top speed, or visible damage to the gear teeth. If you notice any of these symptoms, it's time to install one of your replacement 78-tooth gears from this two-pack.
- Will these fit my RC car? — These gears are specifically designed for LaTrax models and manufactured to OEM Traxxas specifications. As long as your vehicle is a LaTrax model that originally used 78-tooth spur gears, these will fit perfectly. Always verify your vehicle's specifications before purchasing drivetrain components.
- What's the difference between tooth counts in spur gears? — The tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio and performance. A higher tooth count (like 78) on the spur gear paired with the same pinion gear creates a lower overall gear ratio, which favours acceleration and torque but may reduce top speed. Conversely, lower tooth counts favour higher top speeds but with less aggressive acceleration. Choosing the right combination depends on your driving style and the terrain you're tackling.
- Are these suitable for beginners? — Yes, whilst spur gear replacement is a maintenance task rather than something beginners need immediately, having these spares available is an excellent practice for anyone getting into RC. The installation process is straightforward and represents a great introduction to basic RC maintenance and troubleshooting for new hobbyists in the UK RC car scene.
