These high-quality shock springs represent Traxxas's commitment to engineering excellence, offering racers and weekend bashers alike the ability to fine-tune their suspension setup to match their driving style, track conditions, and vehicle weight configuration. Whether you're competing at the highest levels of RC racing or simply want to optimise your ready to run RC car for better handling, these GTR springs deliver the performance adjustability that separates casual drivers from dedicated RC enthusiasts.
Suspension tuning is one of the most effective ways to transform your RC car's handling characteristics without replacing major components. The GTR spring range offers different rates to accommodate various setups, and this 2.3-rate option strikes an excellent balance for many driving scenarios. By choosing the correct spring rate for your specific needs—whether you're running a lighter or heavier vehicle configuration, driving on smooth tarmac or rough terrain, or competing in competitive racing—you can dramatically improve cornering grip, stability through jumps, and overall responsiveness. These shock springs are designed to work seamlessly with Traxxas GTR shock absorbers, making them an ideal upgrade or replacement for any RC enthusiast looking to take their performance to the next level.
RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas suspension components, and we understand that serious RC car drivers in the UK need reliable, authentic parts from authorised dealers. The GTR shock spring range is recognised across the RC community as a benchmark for quality and performance, trusted by both casual hobbyists and professional competitors. If you're building a custom setup, recovering from a crash, or simply want to experiment with suspension tuning on your RC buggy, truck, or touring car, these springs offer exceptional value and genuine Traxxas engineering.
Key Features
- High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These shock springs are manufactured from premium spring steel that has been engineered to deliver consistent performance and longevity, ensuring that your suspension setup remains predictable and reliable lap after lap.
- Durable Red Powder-Coated Finish — The distinctive red powder coating not only provides visual appeal but also offers protection against corrosion and wear, keeping your springs looking and performing like new even after extended use in outdoor conditions across the UK.
- 2.3 Spring Rate for Balanced Performance — The 2.3-rate specification positions these springs in the sweet spot for many RC applications, offering a good balance between responsiveness and stability without being too soft or too stiff for general driving and competition use.
- Double Purple Stripe Identification — The double purple stripe marking system makes it instantly clear which spring rate you're using, helping you maintain consistency in your setups and making it easy to identify springs if you're running multiple vehicles with different suspension configurations.
- Sold as a Matching Pair — Each TRX5942 purchase includes two identical shock springs, ensuring that your front and rear suspension (or left and right sides) remain perfectly matched for balanced handling and predictable vehicle behaviour.
- Compatible with GTR Shock Absorbers — These springs are specifically engineered to work with Traxxas GTR shock absorbers, guaranteeing perfect fitment and optimal performance without any compatibility concerns or modifications required.
- Suspension Tuning for All Conditions — Higher spring rates create stiffer, more resistant suspension for improved responsiveness and control, while the 2.3-rate option serves as a versatile middle ground suitable for a wide range of driving styles and terrain types.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GTR shock springs represent decades of engineering expertise from one of the world's most respected RC manufacturers. The 2.3-rate specification refers to the spring's stiffness rating—measured in the resistance force required to compress the spring by a specific distance. This particular rate is engineered to provide an ideal balance between comfort and control for most RC drivers. The premium spring steel construction ensures that the spring maintains its characteristics over thousands of compression cycles, resisting fatigue and sagging that can occur with lower-quality materials. The red powder-coated finish is applied through an industrial process that not only creates the distinctive Traxxas red appearance but also adds a protective layer against moisture, dirt, and the wear that comes from regular use on UK race tracks and outdoor bashing terrain. The double purple stripe marking system is colour-coded across the entire Traxxas GTR spring range, allowing drivers to instantly identify their spring rates and maintain perfect consistency when building multiple vehicles or swapping suspension setups between cars. The engineering precision of these springs means that left and right sides (or front and rear pairs) will compress and extend with virtually identical characteristics, delivering the predictable, balanced handling that competitive RC drivers demand. Whether you're running on smooth asphalt, concrete, dirt, or mixed terrain, the 2.3-rate springs provide the suspension compliance needed for consistent grip whilst maintaining the tautness required for sharp cornering response.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the 2.3 spring rate mean and how does it affect my RC car's handling? — The spring rate indicates the stiffness of the spring; a 2.3 rate is measured as the force required to compress the spring by a given distance. Higher rates mean stiffer, less compliant suspension that resists bumps and provides quicker response through corners. The 2.3-rate offers a balanced middle ground suitable for most driving styles, providing enough compliance to absorb track imperfections whilst maintaining the firmness needed for controlled handling. If you find your car too bouncy and unstable, you could switch to a stiffer spring (higher rate); if it feels too harsh or is losing grip on bumpy terrain, a softer spring (lower rate) might suit better.
- Are these GTR shock springs suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. The 2.3-rate is considered a versatile, all-purpose spring rate that works well for drivers of all experience levels. Beginners benefit from the balanced setup because it's forgiving enough to learn on without being so soft that the car becomes unpredictable, whilst experienced drivers can use it as a starting point and adjust from there based on their specific needs and preferences.
- Do I need to replace both springs at the same time? — For best results, yes. The pair included in this package is engineered to work together, and replacing both springs ensures that your left and right (or front and rear) suspension remains perfectly balanced. If you only replace one spring and keep an older, potentially fatigued spring on the other side, your vehicle may handle inconsistently and feel unstable or unpredictable.
- How do I know which spring rate I need? — The 2.3-rate is an excellent starting point for most conditions and driving styles. If your RC car feels too bouncy and continues bouncing after landing jumps, you might benefit from a stiffer (higher rate) spring. If it feels harsh over bumps and loses grip on rough terrain, a softer (lower rate) spring could help. Traxxas offers the GTR spring range in multiple rates, so you can experiment to find your perfect setup.
- Will these springs work with other shock absorbers? — These springs are specifically engineered for Traxxas GTR shock absorbers. Whilst the springs might physically fit other Traxxas shocks, they are optimally tuned for the GTR system, and using them with different shocks may not produce the best performance or handling characteristics.
- How often should I replace these springs? — With proper use, quality spring steel springs like these should last for hundreds of hours of driving. However, springs can lose their stiffness over time through metal fatigue, especially if used in harsh conditions or if your vehicle has been crashed repeatedly. If you notice that your suspension feels softer than it used to, or if the springs appear bent or damaged, replacement is recommended. Regular inspection and maintenance of your RC car will help you identify worn springs before they significantly impact your handling.
