Overview

The Traxxas Wires: brake, throttle, shift / servo horns: throttle, brake & shift; ball screw and ball cup (shift shaft) TRX4968 is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts maintaining or customising their Traxxas nitro-powered vehicles. Whether you're a dedicated basher, weekend racer, or experienced RC hobbyist in the UK, having quality throttle and brake linkage components is crucial for maintaining precise engine control and reliable braking performance. This comprehensive parts package includes everything you need to ensure your RC car's throttle response and brake engagement are working at their absolute best.

Designed with meticulous engineering, this Traxxas part package addresses one of the most critical systems on any nitro-powered RC vehicle—the throttle and brake linkage mechanism. When these components wear, become damaged, or require adjustment, having genuine Traxxas replacement parts ensures your RC car maintains factory-specification performance and reliability. The TRX4968 is perfect for restoring worn linkages, upgrading older systems, or building a completely fresh throttle and brake setup on your RC model.

RC car UK enthusiasts know that the throttle and brake system is where precision engineering truly matters. A worn servo horn or damaged linkage wire can result in poor throttle response, inconsistent braking, or unpredictable engine behaviour. This genuine Traxxas component package gives you the peace of mind that comes with OEM parts designed specifically for your vehicle's requirements.

Key Features

  • Complete throttle and brake linkage wires — These precision-engineered wires form the mechanical connection between your servo and the engine's carburetor and brake system, ensuring smooth, responsive throttle control and reliable brake engagement across all driving conditions.
  • Multiple servo horn options included — The package includes throttle, brake, and shift servo horns, giving you flexibility to configure your linkage system exactly as needed or to replace worn horns without purchasing separate components.
  • Ball screw and ball cup shift shaft components — These spherical joint components allow smooth articulation and precise positioning of the shift linkage on vehicles equipped with multi-speed transmissions, reducing binding and improving overall system responsiveness.
  • Genuine Traxxas engineering — As an OEM Traxxas part, this component package is manufactured to exact factory specifications, ensuring perfect fitment and compatibility with your Traxxas RC vehicle.
  • Essential for throttle and brake adjustment — These components are critical for performing proper throttle neutral adjustment, throttle trim adjustment, servo centering, and brake linkage calibration as outlined in Traxxas factory service procedures.

Technical Performance

The throttle and brake linkage system represents one of the most important mechanical interfaces on any nitro-powered RC car. This Traxxas TRX4968 package provides all the essential components needed to maintain, repair, or upgrade this critical system. The wires are precisely manufactured to ensure they don't bind or flex excessively during operation, maintaining consistent servo response throughout the full range of throttle and brake travel. The servo horns included in this package are engineered to accept the linkage wires securely whilst allowing smooth articulation without play. The ball screw and ball cup components for the shift shaft provide spherical joints that accommodate angular movement whilst maintaining precise positioning—this is particularly important on transmission systems where even small amounts of binding can result in missed shift events or delayed transmission response. When properly installed and adjusted according to Traxxas factory procedures, these components enable your throttle servo to provide equal travel in both forward and brake directions (50/50 setting) or alternative travel ratios (70/30 setting) depending on your vehicle's speed control system. The quality of materials and precision manufacturing ensures these components will provide years of reliable service, whether you're running a casual basher vehicle or pushing your RC car to the limits on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between 50/50 and 70/30 throttle neutral settings on my Traxxas RC car? — The 50/50 setting on your transmitter's faceplate provides equal travel in both forward and brake directions, and Traxxas specifically recommends this position for nitro-powered vehicles and electric models equipped with a mechanical speed control (MSC) or forward and reverse ESC. The 70/30 setting provides more throttle travel and less brake travel, and is exclusively recommended for electric vehicles equipped with a forward and brake only electronic speed control (ESC). Choosing the correct setting is fundamental to proper throttle response and braking performance.
  • How do I know if my throttle and brake linkage components need replacing? — Signs that your linkage system needs attention include sluggish or unresponsive throttle action, brakes that don't engage properly, visible cracks or bending in the linkage wires, servo horns that have stripped holes or won't hold their position, or any binding or grinding sensation when operating the throttle trigger. Worn components can make precise adjustments impossible and should be replaced with genuine Traxxas parts like the TRX4968 to restore full performance.
  • What steps must I follow when adjusting my throttle and brake linkage after installing new components? — Traxxas factory procedures require several sequential steps: first install fresh batteries in both the 4-cell battery holder and transmitter; set the throttle neutral adjustment to either 50/50 or 70/30 depending on your speed control system; set the throttle trim adjustment knob to the '0' position; remove and recentre the servo horn by loosening the 2x6mm self-tapping screw, then turn on the radio and on/off switch to allow the servo to jump to neutral; loosen the two screw collars with a 1.5mm Allen wrench and adjust the throttle linkage so the carburetor sits at idle when the servo is neutral; on Revo models ensure there are small gaps between the servo horn and collar and between the brake spring and brake arm; re-tighten the screw collars whilst applying slight pressure on the rod guide; loosen the brake rod screw collar and push it against the fuel tubing to apply slight pressure on the brake cam lever; finally test full throttle and brake operation to confirm proper functioning.
  • Why shouldn't I adjust the throttle trim on my transmitter to raise idle speed instead of using the carburetor idle screw? — This is a critical mistake that many RC hobbyists make. Adjusting throttle trim instead of the carburetor idle screw causes two serious problems: the engine may stall every single time you apply the brakes, and the brakes may not engage at all, which can lead to loss of vehicle control and other serious issues. Always adjust idle speed at the carburetor itself, not through transmitter trim settings.
  • What is the purpose of the ball screw and ball cup components in this package? — The ball screw and ball cup (shift shaft) components provide spherical joints that allow smooth articulation of your shift linkage system. On vehicles equipped with multi-speed transmissions, these components accommodate the angular movement required during gear changes whilst maintaining precise positioning and preventing binding that could delay or prevent gear engagement.
  • Is this component package suitable for all Traxxas nitro-powered vehicles? — This is a universal throttle and brake linkage component package from Traxxas, but you should verify compatibility with your specific vehicle model before ordering. The components are commonly used across multiple Traxxas nitro platforms including Revo, T-Maxx, Jato, Rustler, Stampede, 4-Tec and Sport models, but fitment specifics may vary.
