Overview

The Traxxas Springs, Red (for big bore shocks) (2.5 rate) (2 pcs) TRX4649R are essential suspension upgrade components designed for RC enthusiasts who demand precision tuning and enhanced performance from their big bore shock setups. These professional-grade springs are engineered to deliver consistent handling characteristics and superior ride quality across a wide range of driving conditions. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your RC car UK setup or a weekend basher looking to improve your suspension response, these Traxxas springs offer the reliability and performance that comes from Traxxas's decades of RC innovation and engineering excellence.

As a dedicated RC model shop enthusiast, you'll appreciate that spring rate selection is critical to optimising your vehicle's performance. A 2.5 rate spring provides a specific balance between compliance and support, making it suitable for various driving styles and terrain types. The red colour coding helps you quickly identify the spring rate at a glance during maintenance and tuning sessions, eliminating confusion when swapping suspension components. This pack includes two springs, allowing you to replace both sides of your big bore shock suspension or maintain a spare set for competition use.

These springs are genuine Traxxas OEM parts, manufactured to the same exacting standards as the vehicles they're designed for. Whether you're upgrading a Traxxas monster truck, buggy, or truggy platform, sourcing the correct replacement springs ensures your suspension performs exactly as intended. The 2.5 rate specification makes these springs ideal for drivers seeking a responsive yet stable platform that handles well on both smooth circuits and rough terrain across the UK and beyond.

Key Features

  • 2.5 Spring Rate — The 2.5 rate designation indicates the spring's stiffness, affecting how quickly the suspension compresses and extends under load, which is crucial for tuning your vehicle's handling balance and ride height characteristics across different track conditions.
  • For Big Bore Shocks — These springs are specifically engineered to work with Traxxas big bore shock absorbers, which feature larger diameter cylinders that provide superior damping and heat dissipation, and this spring set complements those advanced shock characteristics perfectly.
  • Red Colour Coding — The distinctive red colour provides instant visual identification of the spring rate, making it fast and easy to confirm you're using the correct springs during maintenance, tuning sessions, and race day preparation.
  • Pack of Two — You receive two springs in each package, allowing you to refresh both sides of your suspension system or maintain a complete spare set for backup during competition events.
  • Genuine Traxxas OEM Parts — As official Traxxas parts manufactured to factory specifications, these springs guarantee perfect compatibility, reliability, and performance with your Traxxas RC vehicle.
  • Precision Engineering — Traxxas springs are manufactured using advanced materials and processes to ensure consistent spring rates and durability through countless suspension cycles and demanding driving conditions.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Springs TRX4649R represent the pinnacle of suspension component engineering, manufactured from high-quality materials engineered to maintain consistent spring rates across repeated compression and extension cycles. The 2.5 rate specification has been precisely calibrated by Traxxas engineers to provide an ideal balance between responsive handling and controlled suspension travel. When installed in big bore shock absorbers, which feature significantly larger piston rod diameters and superior oil capacity compared to standard shocks, these springs work in harmony with the damping characteristics to deliver predictable suspension behaviour across all driving scenarios. The red colour coding is applied during manufacturing using durable methods that won't fade or wash off during routine cleaning and maintenance. These springs are machined from premium steel alloys that resist corrosion and fatigue, ensuring they maintain their designed spring rate over extended use without permanent deformation or loss of performance. Whether you're running on a tight indoor circuit, outdoor dirt tracks, or loose gravel surfaces, these springs will maintain consistent geometry and handling characteristics. The engineering tolerances are extremely tight, meaning each spring in the pair will have virtually identical characteristics, eliminating suspension imbalance and ensuring predictable handling. For serious RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand maximum performance from their RC car suspension systems, these Traxxas springs represent a worthwhile investment in precision and reliability.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 2.5 spring rate mean and how does it affect my RC car's performance? — The spring rate refers to how many pounds of force are required to compress the spring one inch. A 2.5 rate spring is considered relatively soft, allowing greater suspension travel and compliance, which generally provides better traction and smoother handling on rough terrain but may feel less responsive on smooth tracks. Harder spring rates compress less easily and provide quicker handling response but can cause the vehicle to bounce more on rough surfaces. Your choice of spring rate should match your driving style, terrain, and vehicle platform.
  • Are these springs compatible with standard shocks or only big bore shocks? — These springs are specifically designed for big bore shock absorbers, which have larger diameter cylinders than standard shocks. While the springs might physically fit standard shocks, Traxxas engineered them to work optimally with big bore units. Always verify compatibility with your specific shock model before purchasing to ensure proper fitment and performance.
  • How often should I replace my RC suspension springs? — Springs generally have a very long lifespan compared to other RC components like tyres and damping fluid. You should replace them if you notice permanent deformation, loss of the red colour coding due to rust or damage, or if your vehicle's handling balance has changed significantly. In competitive use, some racers replace springs regularly as part of their tuning strategy to ensure absolute consistency.
  • What is the difference between 2.5 rate and other spring rates? — Traxxas offers springs in various rates, typically ranging from 2.0 to 3.0 or higher depending on the vehicle. Lower numbers like 2.0 or 2.5 are softer and provide more suspension compliance, ideal for rough tracks and bashing. Higher numbers like 2.75 or 3.0 are stiffer, providing quicker handling response and better performance on smooth, well-prepared circuits. Your choice depends on your driving style, track conditions, and how you've tuned the rest of your suspension.
  • Can I use these springs with any Traxxas vehicle? — These springs are designed specifically for vehicles equipped with big bore shock absorbers. Traxxas manufactures shocks and springs in various sizes, so you need to ensure your vehicle uses the big bore shock platform. Consult your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop for compatibility confirmation with your specific model.
  • Do I need to replace both springs at the same time? — For optimal handling balance, Traxxas recommends replacing springs in pairs (both sides of the vehicle simultaneously). This ensures equal spring characteristics on both sides, which is essential for consistent handling and predictable cornering behaviour. This pack contains two springs, making it convenient to maintain proper balance.
