Overview

The Traxxas Big Bore shock cylinder (XX-Long) (1pc) TRX2666 is an essential suspension upgrade component for RC enthusiasts looking to enhance their model's performance and handling characteristics. Whether you're a dedicated RC car UK hobbyist, a weekend basher, or someone serious about competitive racing, this genuine Traxxas suspension spare part delivers the quality and reliability you need to keep your RC vehicle performing at its best. As a critical component in your RC model's suspension system, the shock cylinder directly influences how your vehicle absorbs impacts, maintains traction, and handles during aggressive driving.

Traxxas has built a reputation as one of the world's leading RC vehicle manufacturers, and their commitment to engineering excellence extends to every spare part they produce. The Big Bore shock cylinder represents years of suspension development and real-world testing, ensuring that when you need to replace or upgrade your shocks, you're investing in a component that will perform reliably on the track, in the dirt, or wherever your RC adventures take you. This XX-Long variant offers extended travel capability, making it particularly valuable for models that benefit from increased suspension articulation and improved ground clearance over rough terrain.

RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas parts because we understand that your RC model is only as good as its components. By choosing authentic OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts, you're ensuring compatibility, reliability, and longevity. Whether you're repairing wear and tear from intensive use or building the perfect setup for your specific driving style, this shock cylinder is an investment in maintaining your RC car UK performance standards and enjoying countless hours of trouble-free operation.

Key Features

  • XX-Long Length Design — The extended length provides greater suspension travel compared to standard shock cylinders, allowing your RC vehicle to compress and extend further through bumps, jumps and rough terrain without bottoming out or running out of stroke, which is critical for maintaining control and traction during aggressive driving manoeuvres.
  • Big Bore Diameter — The larger bore diameter increases the internal volume and damping characteristics of the shock, providing more consistent performance across a wider range of driving speeds and conditions, whilst also accommodating higher-viscosity oils for fine-tuned suspension tuning.
  • Genuine Traxxas Manufacturing — This is an authentic OEM part manufactured by Traxxas to the exact same specifications as the shocks installed in their factory-built vehicles, guaranteeing fit, function and long-term durability without any compatibility concerns.
  • Single Piece Supply — You receive one individual shock cylinder, allowing you to replace worn or damaged shocks one at a time or build a matching set by purchasing multiple units to suit your vehicle's suspension requirements.
  • Direct OEM Replacement — This part is designed as a direct replacement for existing Big Bore shock cylinders on compatible Traxxas models, making installation straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance experience and access to standard tools.
  • Premium Build Quality — The shock cylinder is constructed to withstand the demanding conditions of RC motorsport, including repetitive impacts, high-speed compression cycles, and exposure to dust, dirt and moisture common in outdoor RC racing and bashing.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Big Bore shock cylinder (XX-Long) represents the pinnacle of suspension engineering for dedicated RC enthusiasts. The XX-Long length variant is specifically engineered to provide extended stroke, meaning your vehicle's suspension can compress and extend further than standard cylinders, absorbing larger impacts and maintaining contact with uneven surfaces that would otherwise cause wheel lift and loss of traction. The big bore design increases internal damping surface area, resulting in smoother, more predictable shock response throughout the entire compression range. This is particularly important during high-speed passes where minute suspension variations can mean the difference between maintaining speed through a corner or losing control. The larger bore also accommodates higher-viscosity shock oils, providing serious tuners with the ability to fine-tune damping characteristics to match their specific driving style, vehicle weight distribution, and track conditions. Whether you're running your RC model on smooth tarmac, loose gravel, sand, or technical rock crawling terrain, the shock cylinder's engineering ensures consistent performance and reliability. The construction materials and manufacturing tolerances meet Traxxas's exacting standards, meaning you can expect years of service from this component even under intensive use conditions common in the UK RC community. For competitive racers and serious hobbyists alike, investing in genuine OEM shock cylinders ensures your vehicle maintains factory performance levels and retains resale value. Many UK RC car enthusiasts report that upgrading or maintaining their shock systems with genuine Traxxas components results in noticeably improved vehicle handling, better traction consistency, and reduced maintenance intervals compared to counterfeit or third-party alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between standard, long and XX-long shock cylinders? — Shock cylinders are available in different lengths to provide varying amounts of suspension travel. Standard cylinders offer baseline travel suitable for most driving conditions. Long cylinders extend the available suspension stroke for better bump absorption. XX-Long cylinders like the TRX2666 offer the maximum travel, making them ideal for vehicles used in high-impact scenarios such as jumping, rough terrain bashing, or vehicles where extended articulation is desirable for rock crawling and technical driving. The XX-Long variant provides approximately 25-35% more stroke than standard cylinders depending on the specific vehicle platform.
  • Will this shock cylinder fit my Traxxas RC car? — The TRX2666 is designed as a replacement Big Bore shock cylinder for compatible Traxxas models that utilise the big bore suspension architecture. Before purchasing, verify that your specific Traxxas model supports Big Bore shocks and that the XX-Long length is appropriate for your vehicle. Check your RC model's parts diagram or contact our team at RC Model Shop for compatibility confirmation with your specific model.
  • How often should I replace my shock cylinders? — Shock cylinders are durable components, but their lifespan depends on usage intensity. Casual weekend RC car UK drivers might expect 12-24 months of service, whilst competitive racers or intensive bashers might need replacement every 6-12 months. Signs of wear include reduced damping response, oil leakage, uneven suspension behaviour, or visible damage to the cylinder walls. Many experienced RC enthusiasts replace shocks seasonally to maintain peak performance.
  • Can I use this shock cylinder with different oil viscosities? — Yes, one advantage of the big bore design is its compatibility with a wider range of shock oil viscosities. The larger internal volume allows you to use thicker oils for slower damping or thinner oils for quicker response. Experiment with different viscosities to tune your suspension precisely for your driving style and local track conditions.
  • What tools do I need to replace a shock cylinder? — Replacing a shock cylinder typically requires basic RC tools: a small Phillips screwdriver for securing the cylinder to the shock body, possibly a wrench or spanner for the shock ends depending on your specific vehicle, and potentially some shock oil if you plan to refill the system. Most RC Model Shop customers find the job straightforward with standard hobby tools.
  • Is this a genuine Traxxas part? — Yes, this is an authentic OEM Traxxas part manufactured to the exact specifications of components supplied in new Traxxas vehicles. Purchasing genuine parts ensures perfect compatibility, warranty coverage, and long-term reliability. Counterfeit shock cylinders may appear to fit but often have dimensional inconsistencies, inferior material quality, and poor sealing characteristics.
