Technical Performance
Suspension arms are foundational components in any RC vehicle's geometry system, and the engineering behind these Traxxas parts reflects decades of Traxxas' expertise in RC suspension design. The 7075-T6 aluminium alloy represents one of the highest-strength aluminium grades available in the RC industry, offering significantly better strength-to-weight ratio than standard aluminium or plastic alternatives. The anodised finish provides a durable protective layer that resists corrosion from moisture and salt exposure, which is particularly important for UK-based RC enthusiasts who may encounter damp conditions or run at coastal venues. These suspension arms work together with your vehicle's shock absorbers, camber links and tie rods to create a complete suspension system capable of maintaining optimal wheel angles throughout the suspension travel range. The upper arms help control vertical wheel movement whilst maintaining correct camber angle, whilst the lower arms provide the primary load path and attachment points for shocks and springs. Quality suspension arms are crucial for consistent performance because they directly determine how your vehicle maintains traction during cornering—as your chassis leans during turns, the suspension geometry changes dynamically, and precision-engineered arms ensure this change happens in a controlled, predictable manner. Proper suspension arm geometry also affects ride height stability, anti-dive and anti-squat characteristics, and overall chassis balance. The engineering tolerances in these Traxxas-specification arms are tighter than many aftermarket alternatives, which translates to more repeatable tuning results and better baseline performance straight out of the box.

Understanding RC Suspension Tuning
To maximise the performance of your new suspension arms, it's worth understanding the fundamental suspension adjustment principles outlined by Traxxas' professional engineers. Suspension tuning begins with camber angle—the angle of your wheels relative to the driving surface, measured in degrees. Most RC vehicles are set with 1° to 2° of negative camber, meaning the wheels lean slightly toward the chassis. This might seem counterintuitive since zero camber would theoretically maximize tyre contact area on a flat surface, but in actual cornering, negative camber plays a crucial role. As your vehicle enters a turn, inertia causes the chassis to lean toward the outside of the turn, transferring weight to the outside tyres. If your wheels were set to zero camber, this chassis lean would cause the outside wheels to develop positive camber, actually reducing their contact patch just when you need maximum traction. By starting with negative camber, as the suspension compresses during cornering, the outside wheels' camber angle decreases toward zero, maintaining optimal contact area during the turn. Suspension arms control this camber change through their geometry and connection points.
Another critical suspension adjustment is toe angle—the direction your wheels point as viewed from above. Zero toe means your wheels point straight ahead; toe-in means they angle toward the vehicle's centerline, and toe-out means they point away from center. Front toe-in is commonly used in RC to improve straight-line stability and reduce steering sensitivity, making the vehicle easier to drive and less prone to oversteering. Toe angle is adjusted by altering the length of tie rods on most Traxxas models, but the underlying suspension geometry created by your suspension arms remains constant. Effective suspension tuning requires changing one adjustment at a time, testing thoroughly, and making only incremental changes—a half-degree of camber or 2mm change in ride height makes a significant difference. Always ensure you have appropriate tyres for your driving conditions, as suspension tuning only works when your tyres have sufficient grip to respond to geometry changes. With quality suspension arms, proper setup, and methodical tuning, you'll be able to optimise your Mini Maxx for the specific track conditions and driving style you prefer.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these suspension arms suitable for my Traxxas Mini Maxx monster truck? — Yes, these arms are specifically engineered for Traxxas Mini Maxx models and are designed to fit perfectly with OEM fitment. They are compatible with all colour variants of the Mini Maxx BL-2S including green, blue, black and orange models.
- What is the advantage of 7075-T6 aluminium over standard parts? — 7075-T6 is an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy that offers significantly higher tensile strength than standard aluminium or plastic alternatives, making it more resistant to bending, cracking and failure during extreme driving and jumps. The lightweight nature of aluminium also helps reduce unsprung mass, which improves handling response. The anodised finish provides additional protection against corrosion and weathering.
- How often should I replace my suspension arms? — Suspension arms typically last for extended periods of normal driving, but should be inspected regularly for cracks, bending or wear. If you notice your vehicle's handling has changed, the steering feels inconsistent, or you spot visible damage to the arms, replacement is recommended. Regular inspection before and after intense driving sessions is good practice for any RC enthusiast.
- Can I use these to upgrade plastic stock arms? — Yes, upgrading from plastic to 7075-T6 aluminium suspension arms is a common performance modification. The increased strength and durability of aluminium arms allows you to drive more aggressively and push your Mini Maxx harder without the risk of arm failure. Many UK RC racers choose aluminium upgrades as an early modification to improve reliability and consistency.
- Do I need any special tools to install these suspension arms? — Installation will require basic RC tools such as hex wrenches, which typically come with your Traxxas vehicle. You may also need a small hammer or mallet to press out old ball studs and install new ones if you're not reusing existing rod ends. A workbench setup and good lighting are recommended for precise installation.
- What is camber and why does it matter for suspension arms? — Camber refers to the angle of your wheels relative to the driving surface when viewed head-on. Your suspension arms directly control this angle through their geometry and connection points. Setting your wheels with negative camber (leaning toward the chassis) helps compensate for chassis lean during cornering, maintaining optimal tyre contact patch and maximising traction when you need it most—during turns when weight transfers to the outside tyres.
- How do suspension arms affect my RC car's handling? — Suspension arms form the geometric framework that determines how your wheels move, their camber angle throughout suspension travel, and how weight transfers during cornering and acceleration. Bent or worn suspension arms cause unpredictable handling because they alter suspension geometry—this is why you may notice a vehicle that previously handled well suddenly feels unstable or difficult to control. Fresh quality arms restore consistent, predictable geometry and handling.
