Overview
The Traxxas Springs, shock (natural finish) (GT-Maxx) (1.350 rate, Brown stripe) (2) TRX10242 are premium suspension components designed for serious RC enthusiasts running the Traxxas Maxx Slash 1/8 4WD 6S brushless short course truck. These custom-wound progressive-rate springs deliver the precise tuning capability that competitive RC drivers and weekend bashers demand. Whether you're navigating rocky terrain, racing on dirt tracks, or pushing your RC car UK setup to the limit, these GT-Maxx shock springs provide the suspension performance needed to keep your vehicle planted and responsive across varying surface conditions.
The GT-Maxx shock spring range offers multiple spring rates specifically engineered to optimise your RC short course truck's handling characteristics. The 1.350 rate brown stripe springs represent a medium-firm option in the progressive-rate lineup, making them suitable for drivers seeking a balance between compliance over small obstacles and stability during aggressive cornering. Progressive-rate spring technology means these springs start softer to absorb minor bumps smoothly, then stiffen progressively under greater loads to handle harder impacts and maintain structural integrity during extreme driving. This dual-action response provides the kind of nuanced suspension control that separates competitive runners from casual bashers.
RC Model Shop stocks genuine Traxxas parts, and these suspension springs are essential tune-up options for anyone serious about optimising their 1/8 scale brushless RC truck. The natural finish construction paired with the brown stripe colour-coding system makes it easy to identify spring rates at a glance, crucial when you're experimenting with different setup configurations. Sold in pairs, these springs work together to maintain balanced suspension geometry and predictable handling across all four corners of your RC vehicle.
Key Features
- Progressive-rate design — These springs are custom-wound with a progressive rate that provides responsive control for small bumps whilst offering a progressively stiffer rate to absorb harder impacts, giving you the best of both worlds in suspension performance without sacrificing either sensitivity or durability.
- 1.350 spring rate — The medium-firm 1.350 rate offers a balanced suspension setup suitable for mixed-terrain RC driving, providing good bump absorption whilst maintaining sufficient stiffness for controlled cornering and stability during high-speed runs on your RC car UK adventures.
- GT-Maxx shock compatibility — These springs are engineered specifically for 139 mm GT-Maxx shocks, ensuring perfect fitment and optimised suspension geometry for your Traxxas Maxx Slash or compatible 1/8 scale RC truck platform.
- Natural finish construction — The natural steel finish resists corrosion and provides durability in challenging RC environments, from dusty desert runs to wet British weather conditions that UK RC enthusiasts frequently encounter.
- Brown stripe identification — The brown stripe colour-coding system makes it instantly recognisable which spring rate you're running, essential when testing different setups or comparing suspension tuning configurations with other RC drivers.
- Sold in pairs — Each package contains two springs, providing matched components for balanced suspension performance across both shock towers and ensuring consistent handling characteristics left-to-right.
- Suspension tuning capability — By selecting different spring rates from the GT-Maxx range, you can compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations, adjust for different driving styles, or fine-tune your RC short course truck's suspension for specific track conditions or terrain types.
- Vehicle configuration flexibility — The higher the spring rate number, the firmer the spring; this modular approach means you can maintain one shock body whilst swapping springs to instantly change your suspension behaviour without purchasing entirely new shock assemblies.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GT-Maxx shock springs represent precision engineering specifically designed for the demands of 1/8 scale RC short course truck competition and recreational driving. These 139 mm springs feature progressive-rate winding patterns that have been carefully engineered through Traxxas' extensive suspension research and development programme. The 1.350 rate specification places these springs in the medium-firm category of the GT-Maxx lineup, offering an optimal balance for drivers who want responsive bump compliance without sacrificing cornering stability or roll control. The progressive-rate technology is fundamental to how these springs perform: they provide a softer initial response to smaller impacts and undulations, then progressively increase stiffness as compression increases, delivering superior control across a wide range of impact scenarios from light gravel texture through to major rocks and obstacles. The natural steel finish provides corrosion resistance, which is particularly valuable for UK RC enthusiasts who may be driving in damp conditions or storing their RC trucks in variable climate storage spaces. Spring rate selection is critical to 1/8 scale RC truck performance; the 1.350 rate works well for general-purpose driving but can be paired with other rates in the GT-Maxx range (including the 1.036, 1.250, and 1.400 options) to fine-tune your specific vehicle setup. The springs are precision-manufactured to tight tolerances to ensure consistent performance across both units in the pair, maintaining symmetrical suspension behaviour that is essential for predictable handling. Whether you're running a stock Maxx Slash configuration or have modified your RC truck with different weight distributions, these springs provide the suspension tuning flexibility needed to achieve optimal performance characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What models are these Traxxas shock springs compatible with? — The TRX10242 springs are specifically designed for the Traxxas Maxx Slash 1/8 4WD 6S brushless short course truck, available in multiple colour variants including red, green, rock n roll, and blue models. The springs work with any Maxx Slash configuration using 139 mm GT-Maxx shock bodies.
- What does the 1.350 rate mean and how does it compare to other spring rates? — The spring rate number indicates stiffness; the higher the number, the firmer the spring. The 1.350 rate offers medium-firm suspension characteristics. Other GT-Maxx rates available include 1.036 (softer, for lighter vehicles or maximum compliance), 1.250 (slightly softer than this option), and 1.400 (firmer, for heavier configurations or maximum support). Choose based on your vehicle weight, driving style, and terrain.
- Why should I upgrade from stock springs to GT-Maxx progressive-rate springs? — Progressive-rate springs provide superior handling across varying terrain by responding softly to minor bumps whilst progressively stiffening under larger impacts. This dual-response characteristic means better control in mixed-terrain environments compared to fixed-rate springs. The GT-Maxx range also offers multiple rate options for fine-tuning your specific setup.
- How do I know which spring rate is right for my RC truck setup? — Spring selection depends on your vehicle weight, driving style, and typical terrain. Lighter vehicles or drivers seeking maximum bump compliance should try lower rates like 1.036 or 1.250. The 1.350 rate offers balanced performance for general-purpose driving. Heavier vehicles or drivers wanting firmer support should consider the 1.400 rate. Experiment by testing different rates to find your ideal setup.
- Are these springs easy to install? — Yes, these springs replace directly into your existing 139 mm GT-Maxx shock bodies. Installation requires no special tools or modifications. Simply remove your old springs and install these new ones in the same position. Ensure both springs are properly seated in the shock towers to maintain balanced suspension.
- What does progressive-rate suspension mean for my RC car performance? — Progressive-rate springs start with a softer spring rate during initial compression, providing responsive control for small bumps and traction on undulating terrain. As compression increases, the spring rate progressively stiffens to absorb and control larger impacts. This characteristic allows you to maintain sensitivity to the terrain whilst protecting your suspension components during aggressive driving or high-speed impacts.
- Can I mix different spring rates on the same RC truck? — Whilst technically possible, it's recommended to use matched pairs (same rate front and rear) for consistent handling balance. However, experienced tuners sometimes use slightly different rates front and rear to dial in specific handling characteristics. If experimenting, make detailed notes so you can replicate successful setups.
- How do the brown stripes help with identifying these springs? — The brown stripe colour-coding system makes quick visual identification possible when managing multiple spring rates. This is particularly valuable during testing sessions where you might swap between different rates or when multiple drivers are sharing equipment and need to verify which rate is installed without detailed measurements.
