Overview

The Traxxas Body, GTS shock (Hard-anodised, PTFE-coated aluminium) (1pc) TRX8266X is a premium replacement shock body designed specifically for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive crawlers in the UK who demand the absolute highest performance from their TRX-4 models. This is not a standard off-the-shelf shock component — it represents the pinnacle of suspension engineering from Traxxas, engineered for extreme off-road use and built to deliver smooth, precise damping across all types of challenging terrain. Whether you're a weekend basher exploring your local trails or a competition-focused driver optimising your rig for competitive crawling events, this PTFE-coated shock body is the upgrade that separates good suspension performance from exceptional performance.

All Traxxas TRX-4 models come equipped with premium, scale-sized GTS shocks featuring threaded-aluminium bodies, X-ring seals, plated shafts, and steel hollow balls. However, if you want to push your RC crawler to the absolute limit and experience what true competition-ready suspension feels like, the optional hard-anodised, PTFE-coated shock body is the key upgrade. This single shock body component, offered individually for those upgrading one shock at a time or building a complete set, transforms your TRX-4's suspension response with technology borrowed from high-end motorsports applications. The PTFE coating is no gimmick — it's a proven low-friction technology that reduces resistance between the piston and shock body to an absolute minimum, resulting in more responsive articulation and smoother damping performance when tackling extreme terrain.

RC car UK enthusiasts and ready to run RC crawler owners will immediately notice the difference when they install this upgrade. The hard-anodised finish not only looks stunning with its bright, professional appearance that adds high-impact style to your TRX-4, it also provides superior durability and corrosion resistance that keeps your shocks looking fresh from one adventure to the next, even after repeated exposure to mud, water, and harsh trail conditions. This is the kind of component that serious RC hobbyists invest in when they're ready to move beyond stock setup and extract every ounce of performance from their machine.

Key Features

  • PTFE-Coated Design — PTFE stands for Polytetrafluoroethylene, a super-slick, low-friction coating that reduces friction between the piston and shock body to an absolute minimum, delivering noticeably improved suspension responsiveness and smoother damping action compared to standard shock bodies.
  • Hard-Anodised Aluminium Construction — The shock body is manufactured from high-grade aluminium and hard-anodised for maximum durability, corrosion resistance, and longevity, ensuring your investment withstands extreme off-road conditions and repeated use without degradation.
  • Threaded Aluminium Body — The threaded design allows for easy and precise ride height adjustments using the spring retaining collar, giving you fine-tuned control over your TRX-4's suspension geometry for different terrain types and driving styles.
  • Competition-Ready Engineering — This component is specifically designed as part of Traxxas's competition build system, engineered to work seamlessly with other high-performance upgrades like TiN shock shafts and red pistons to create a fully optimised suspension setup.
  • X-Ring Seal Compatibility — The shock body is engineered to work with premium X-ring seals that provide superior sealing compared to standard O-rings, reducing oil leakage and maintaining consistent damping performance throughout extended trail sessions.
  • Professional Bright Anodised Finish — Beyond the functional PTFE coating, the bright anodised finish delivers stunning visual appearance that enhances the overall look of your TRX-4, making it stand out on the trail whilst maintaining protection against the elements.
  • Direct Compatibility with TRX-4 Models — This shock body is engineered as a factory upgrade option for all Traxxas TRX-4 crawler models, ensuring perfect fitment and optimal performance without modification or additional compatibility issues.
  • Reduced Shaft Resistance — When combined with the optional TiN-coated shock shafts and red pistons, this shock body contributes to significantly reduced shaft resistance without compromising damping control, allowing your suspension to respond faster to terrain changes.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTS shock body represents years of engineering refinement specifically for off-road RC crawling applications. The hard-anodised aluminium construction provides not only structural rigidity but also superior surface finish that works in harmony with the PTFE coating to minimise friction at the critical piston-to-body interface. This is where suspension performance truly lives — the smoother the interaction between piston and body, the more responsive and predictable your vehicle's articulation becomes. In extreme-terrain crawling situations, this responsiveness translates directly to better axle articulation, allowing your TRX-4 to conform more naturally to uneven ground and maintain traction on technical obstacles. The PTFE coating, combined with the hard-anodised finish, reduces friction between these components to an absolute minimum, which is precisely why this upgrade is specified in Traxxas's official competition build guide for drivers serious about extracting every ounce of performance. The shock body works seamlessly with standard 30-weight silicone oil (the factory fill), but truly shines when paired with lower-viscosity 20-25 weight oil, which provides reduced damping force and even more responsive axle articulation for competition crawling. The threaded design allows spring preload adjustment via the spring retaining collar, providing tuning flexibility for different driving conditions. This is a standard-length shock body, maintaining compatibility with your TRX-4's geometry whilst offering substantial performance improvements over stock components. Serious UK RC enthusiasts and competitive drivers will recognise this as a professional-grade upgrade component, not a cosmetic addition.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What exactly is PTFE and why does it matter in RC shock bodies? — PTFE stands for Polytetrafluoroethylene, a super-slick, low-friction ceramic coating that significantly reduces friction between the shock piston and the body. In practical terms, this means your suspension moves more freely with less resistance, resulting in better responsiveness to terrain changes and smoother damping action. This is especially noticeable during extreme-terrain crawling where every tiny bit of articulation matters for maintaining traction and control.
  • How does this shock body compare to the standard TRX-4 shock body? — The standard TRX-4 shocks feature threaded-aluminium bodies that are effective and reliable, but they lack the PTFE coating. The addition of PTFE, combined with the hard-anodised finish, creates a significantly lower-friction interface between the piston and body. This upgrade is specifically designed and recommended by Traxxas for drivers pursuing competition-level performance and those who want the absolute smoothest possible suspension response on technical terrain.
  • Can I use this shock body with my existing shocks or do I need to rebuild them? — You can transfer existing internal components (shafts, pistons, seals) to this new body, though Traxxas recommends using a shock rebuild kit (part 8262) to refresh the seals and O-rings at the same time. This ensures optimal performance and takes advantage of the new body's low-friction design with fresh, properly seated seals.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a performance upgrade component intended for experienced RC enthusiasts and competitive drivers who are comfortable with shock maintenance and tuning. Installation requires removing the shock from your vehicle, disassembling it, and carefully reassembling it with proper technique. If you're new to RC and haven't worked on shocks before, we recommend starting with basic maintenance skills first, or consulting with experienced RC friends for guidance during installation.
  • Do I need to buy these in pairs? — This is sold as a single shock body, allowing you to upgrade one shock at a time or build a complete set. Many drivers start by upgrading a few shocks and gradually progress to a full four-shock setup. Some prefer upgrading rear shocks first, then moving to front shocks as their budget allows.
  • What shock oil should I use with this body? — Traxxas TRX-4 models are filled from the factory with 30-weight silicone oil, which works perfectly with this shock body. However, for reduced damping force and more responsive axle articulation (especially beneficial for competition crawling), many drivers switch to lower-viscosity 20-25 weight silicone oil. The PTFE coating on this body shines when paired with lighter oil, as the reduced internal friction allows the lighter oil to provide even more responsive performance.
  • Can I upgrade other shock components at the same time? — Absolutely, and Traxxas's official competition build guide recommends combining this body upgrade with TiN-coated shock shafts (8263T) and red pistons for the ultimate suspension setup. These upgrades work synergistically — the PTFE coating on the body, combined with TiN shafts and red pistons, creates a suspension system with minimal friction throughout, delivering maximum responsiveness and smoothness.
  • Will this improve my crawling performance? — Yes, owners consistently report improved axle articulation and responsiveness when upgrading to this shock body, particularly noticeable when tackling extreme terrain and technical obstacles. The reduced friction allows your suspension to work more naturally and respond more quickly to terrain changes, which translates to better traction and control in competitive crawling situations.
  • How long do these shock bodies last? — The hard-anodised aluminium construction is extremely durable and resistant to corrosion. With normal maintenance (rebuilding seals periodically with a rebuild kit) and proper care, these shock bodies will last through years of trail use and competitive events. The hard-anodised finish protects against environmental damage from mud, water, and UV exposure.
