Overview

The Traxxas Springs, shock, Long (natural finish) (GTS) (0.54 rate, Green stripe) are precision-engineered suspension components designed specifically for the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit. These progressive-rate shock springs represent a critical tuning element for RC enthusiasts in the UK who demand responsive, controlled suspension performance across varied terrain. Whether you're a seasoned RC car UK competitor or an enthusiast exploring advanced suspension tuning, these GTS springs deliver the dynamic performance needed to transform your TRX-4 crawler experience.

Suspension tuning is one of the most important aspects of RC vehicle setup, allowing drivers to compensate for different vehicle weights, driving styles, and terrain conditions. The Traxxas GTS long shock springs are custom-wound to exacting standards and offer a specific 0.54 spring rate with natural finish construction. These springs are essential components for anyone running a TRX-4 with the Long Arm Lift Kit upgrade, providing the foundation for a properly balanced suspension geometry that responds predictably to bumps, rocks, and obstacles.

RC crawlers and off-road RC vehicles demand suspension components that can handle both small technical movements and larger impacts with equal finesse. The progressive-rate design of these GTS springs means they respond softly to minor terrain variations—giving you the sensitivity and control needed for precise line selection—while progressively stiffening to absorb harder hits without bottoming out. This makes them an excellent choice for improving your TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit setup.

Key Features

  • GTS Progressive-Rate Spring Design — These springs are custom-wound with a progressive rate that provides responsive control for small bumps whilst progressively stiffening to absorb harder impacts. This dual-characteristic approach means you get both sensitivity for technical crawling and protection against harsh terrain strikes, giving you confidence across all driving conditions.
  • 0.54 Spring Rate (Green Stripe) — The specific 0.54 spring rate is precisely tuned for the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, ensuring optimal suspension geometry and handling balance. The green stripe colour-coding makes identification simple and prevents accidental mix-ups during maintenance or tuning sessions.
  • Natural Finish Construction — The natural finish means these springs are designed for durability and reliability without cosmetic coatings that could wear or chip. This professional-grade construction is typical of Traxxas components and reflects their engineering standards for long-term performance.
  • Designed for TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit Compatibility — These springs are specifically engineered to work with the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, meaning geometry, length, and rate are perfectly matched for this upgrade. Installing springs not designed for your specific kit can result in poor handling, premature wear, or even damage to suspension components.
  • Suspension Tuning Flexibility — Springs are offered in different rates to tune your suspension performance or compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations. Having the correct spring rate allows you to optimise your crawler's performance, improve traction, reduce body roll, and achieve the exact feel you want from your RC car.
  • Professional Crawling Performance — The higher the spring rate number, the firmer the spring. At 0.54 rate, these springs offer a specific balance ideal for TRX-4 long-arm setups, allowing experienced RC enthusiasts to dial in precise suspension behaviour for competitive crawling or aggressive off-road bashing.
  • Sold in Pairs — You receive one pair of shock springs (two units), providing complete suspension tuning for front and rear, or allowing you to build matching setups across multiple vehicles or experiment with different spring combinations.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas GTS long shock springs represent professional-grade suspension engineering designed for serious RC crawlers and off-road enthusiasts in the UK. These custom-wound springs feature progressive-rate construction, meaning they exhibit soft initial compression for detecting and responding to minor terrain features, then progressively stiffen to handle larger impacts and prevent bottoming out. The 0.54 spring rate, indicated by the green stripe colour code, is precisely calibrated for use with the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit, a popular upgrade that extends the wheelbase and improves crawling geometry. The natural finish means no cosmetic coatings interfere with performance—just pure engineering designed for durability. Spring rate is fundamental to vehicle behaviour; higher rates mean firmer springs that reduce body roll and improve handling responsiveness, whilst lower rates provide softer ride characteristics and better terrain following. At 0.54 rate, these springs are tuned for the specific geometry and weight distribution of the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit setup. The length of 139mm matches the GTS shock dimensions, ensuring proper suspension travel and geometry throughout the full range of motion. Installation requires no special tools beyond standard hex drivers and basic RC maintenance equipment. These springs are a direct replacement component, making them suitable for routine maintenance, performance tuning, or recovering worn springs that have lost their original spring rate characteristics over time and use.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the difference between 0.54 rate and other spring rates available? — Spring rate determines how firmly the spring resists compression. The 0.54 rate springs in this pack are specifically designed for the TRX-4 Long Arm Lift Kit geometry. Lower rates (softer springs) provide more compliance and terrain following; higher rates (firmer springs) reduce body roll and improve handling responsiveness. Traxxas offers different rates so you can tune suspension performance or compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations. If you run heavier payloads or want firmer handling, you'd step up to a higher rate; if you want a softer ride or run a lighter setup, you'd step down.
  • Are these springs suitable for beginners or just experienced RC drivers? — These springs are an intermediate-level component. Beginners using a standard TRX-4 without the Long Arm Lift Kit won't need these specifically-designed springs. However, if you've already upgraded to the Long Arm Lift Kit, these springs are essential and not difficult to install. The green stripe colour coding makes identification straightforward, and installation involves simple hex key removal and replacement. Experienced RC enthusiasts who are tuning suspension will appreciate the specific 0.54 rate designed for this kit.
  • How often should I replace my shock springs? — Shock springs are consumable parts that gradually lose their spring rate characteristics over time and use. With regular bashing and crawling, springs may need replacement every 6-12 months depending on intensity of use. You'll notice springs losing performance when the vehicle sits lower than normal, has reduced responsiveness to terrain, or exhibits more body roll during cornering. Keeping spare springs in your pit box is a smart practice for UK RC enthusiasts who drive regularly.
  • Can I use different spring rates on front and rear? — Yes, many RC enthusiasts run different spring rates front and rear to fine-tune handling characteristics. For example, softer springs in front for terrain compliance and firmer springs in rear for stability, or vice versa depending on your driving style and terrain. Since these springs come in pairs, you could use one pair on one end and a different rate on the other. Experimenting with spring rates is a classic suspension tuning technique.
  • What makes these springs different from standard GTR springs? — GTS springs are custom-wound progressive-rate springs designed for specific Traxxas shock geometries. The progressive rate provides responsive control for small bumps with progressive stiffening for larger impacts—a dual-characteristic design that standard springs may not provide. The 139mm length is specific to GTS shocks, so ensure you're using the correct spring length for your shock type.
  • Do I need special tools to install these springs? — Installation requires only basic RC tools: a hex key or Allen wrench to remove the shock end caps, and steady hands to compress and install the new springs. No special spring compressors are required for GTS shocks. Many UK RC enthusiasts perform spring changes as routine maintenance in their workshop or pit area.
