The Traxxas GTR XX-Long shock body represents the pinnacle of suspension engineering for 1/10 scale RC cars. This green-anodised aluminium shock body is precision-engineered to deliver exceptional damping performance, making it an ideal upgrade for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand the very best from their suspension setup. Whether you're running a Traxxas Rustler Ultimate VXL 4x4 or other compatible 1/10 scale models, this shock body transforms your vehicle's handling characteristics and ride quality.

Built from hard-anodized aluminium and coated with advanced PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), this shock body provides ultra-smooth damping action that sets it apart from standard shocks. The XX-Long design accommodates larger suspension travel, giving you more control over technical terrain and allowing your RC car to absorb impacts with remarkable consistency. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK seeking to upgrade their suspension or replace worn components, this single shock body offers exceptional value and proven performance credentials.

This is a genuine Traxxas component, sold as a single unit, making it perfect for replacement or upgrade purposes. The combination of premium materials, innovative engineering, and meticulous manufacturing ensures that this shock body will perform reliably whether you're bashing on the weekend or competing seriously with your ready to run RC model.

Key Features

  • PTFE-Coated Aluminium Body — The shock body is coated with PTFE, a low-friction material that provides the slickest damping action available, ensuring smooth and responsive suspension behaviour even during aggressive driving sessions.
  • Hard-Anodized Finish — The green hard-anodized aluminium construction offers exceptional durability and corrosion resistance, protecting your investment and maintaining a premium appearance over years of use.
  • XX-Long Design — The extended length provides increased suspension travel, allowing for superior bump absorption and better weight transfer during cornering, resulting in improved traction and control.
  • 13mm Bore Technology — The larger 13mm bore diameter holds over 70% more shock oil than Traxxas Ultra Shocks, enabling more consistent damping characteristics and smoother ride quality throughout the full range of suspension movement.
  • Titanium-Nitride Coated Shaft — The precision-crafted shock shaft features a slick titanium-nitride coating that resists scuffing and increases durability, whilst eliminating stiction (static friction) for reliable, predictable suspension action.
  • X-Ring Seals — Advanced X-ring sealing technology keeps shock oil securely contained whilst preventing dirt and moisture ingress, ensuring long-lasting performance and consistent damping even in dusty or wet conditions.
  • Threaded Spring Collar — Simple and intuitive adjustment of spring preload and ride height is accomplished by turning the threaded spring collar, allowing you to fine-tune your suspension geometry without special tools.
  • Locking Spring Retainer — The lower spring retainer is secured with a locking screw, providing confidence that your suspension settings remain stable during intense driving sessions.
  • Includes Shock Oil — Each complete shock assembly includes 30-weight pure silicone shock oil, providing everything needed for immediate performance, though this body alone requires compatible oil for installation.

Technical Performance

This GTR XX-Long shock body represents a significant advancement in suspension technology for 1/10 scale RC vehicles. The combination of hard-anodized aluminium construction with PTFE coating creates an exceptional damping platform that outperforms standard shock bodies significantly. The 13mm bore design holds substantially more oil than conventional shocks, providing superior consistency in damping force across the full range of suspension travel. The titanium-nitride coated shaft eliminates the stiction that plagues lesser shock designs, meaning your suspension responds instantly to terrain changes without the dead zone associated with inferior components. Whether you're running this on a Traxxas Rustler Ultimate VXL 4x4 in brushless configuration or another compatible 1/10 scale RC model, the engineering excellence of this shock body ensures that your vehicle will respond predictably and perform reliably. The X-ring seals are particularly important for UK bashers who encounter wet or dusty conditions, as they maintain a complete seal against environmental contaminants whilst allowing the suspension to move freely. The XX-Long geometry provides increased suspension travel compared to standard shocks, translating to better bump absorption and more confidence when tackling rough terrain. This is a genuine Traxxas component manufactured to exacting standards, ensuring compatibility and performance with your existing RC setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Traxxas GTR XX-Long shock suitable for my 1/10 scale RC car? — This shock body is specifically designed for 1/10 scale vehicles and is confirmed compatible with Traxxas Rustler Ultimate VXL 4x4 models in both green and blue variants. If you own a different 1/10 scale RC car, verify compatibility with your vehicle's specifications before purchasing, as shock mounting patterns vary between models.
  • What makes the PTFE coating important for my RC suspension? — PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) is an extremely low-friction material that enables the damping piston to move smoothly through the shock oil with minimal resistance. This means your suspension responds instantly to terrain changes without lag, providing better control and more predictable handling characteristics. The PTFE coating is what sets premium shocks apart from budget alternatives.
  • Why does the 13mm bore matter compared to standard shocks? — The larger 13mm bore diameter allows the shock body to contain over 70% more shock oil than Traxxas Ultra Shocks. More oil capacity means the damping force remains more consistent throughout the full range of suspension travel, particularly during aggressive driving or rapid successive bumps. This translates to more predictable handling and better performance in demanding conditions.
  • What is stiction and why does the titanium-nitride shaft eliminate it? — Stiction is static friction, a dead zone at the beginning of suspension movement where the piston doesn't respond immediately to input. Lower quality shock shafts suffer from stiction, making suspension feel sluggish. The titanium-nitride coating applied to this shock's shaft provides an extremely slick surface that eliminates stiction completely, ensuring your suspension responds instantly to every bump and input.
  • Can I use this shock body as a direct replacement? — This is a shock body component only, designed to replace worn or damaged bodies on existing shocks. You'll need compatible springs, a shock shaft, and internal damping components. If you're looking for a complete ready-to-run shock assembly, you may want to consider purchasing complete shock assemblies instead of this body alone.
  • What shock oil should I use with this body? — The manufacturer recommends 30-weight pure silicone shock oil for optimal performance. Always use genuine Traxxas shock oil or equivalent silicone-based oils, as mineral-based oils can damage seals and degrade performance. The viscosity (weight) of the oil directly affects damping characteristics, so experiment with different weights to fine-tune your vehicle's suspension to suit your driving style and terrain.
  • How do I adjust ride height on this shock? — Ride height is adjusted by turning the threaded spring collar, which compresses the spring and raises the vehicle. Simply turn clockwise to increase preload and raise the vehicle, or counter-clockwise to decrease preload and lower it. No special tools are required, making on-the-spot adjustments straightforward during practice or competition.
  • Will this upgrade improve my RC car's handling? — Yes, upgrading to GTR XX-Long shocks typically improves handling significantly compared to stock shocks. The superior damping consistency, increased oil capacity, and elimination of stiction translate to more responsive steering input, better traction during acceleration, and improved stability during cornering. Most UK RC enthusiasts report noticeable improvements in both casual bashing performance and competitive lap times after upgrading to these premium shocks.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a component for experienced RC enthusiasts comfortable with suspension tuning and maintenance. Beginners might be better served by purchasing complete, ready-assembled shock units. However, if you're learning suspension setup and tuning, this body offers exceptional value and performance for developing your skills.
  • How often should I service this shock body? — Regular maintenance depends on usage frequency and conditions. After heavy use or exposure to water and dust, inspect the X-ring seals for damage and refresh the shock oil. The PTFE coating requires no special maintenance but should be kept clean. For competitive use, consider servicing every few months; for casual bashing, annual inspection is typically sufficient.
