Overview
The Traxxas Shaft, GTR shock, TiN-coated (2 pcs) TRX5463T is a premium suspension upgrade designed to enhance the performance and durability of your Traxxas GTR shock absorbers. Whether you're running an RC car in the UK or competing at the track, maintaining peak suspension performance is critical to achieving consistent handling and lap times. These specially coated shock shafts represent a genuine performance investment for RC enthusiasts who demand the best from their suspension systems.
If you've been running stock GTR aluminium shocks and notice reduced responsiveness, excessive wear on seals, or visible scratching on the shafts, this is the perfect upgrade. The titanium nitride coating applied to these precision-engineered shafts transforms your suspension's durability and smoothness, making them an essential tune-up option for any serious RC car UK enthusiast. Whether you're a weekend basher or a competitive racer, these shafts will extend the life of your shocks and improve overall vehicle dynamics.
Traxxas has engineered these shafts with careful attention to detail, ensuring they work seamlessly with your existing GTR shock bodies and internal components. The upgrade path is straightforward, making this an accessible performance enhancement for RC hobbyists of all experience levels. With free mainland UK delivery on orders over £99, upgrading your suspension setup has never been easier.
Key Features
- Titanium Nitride (TiN) Coating — The shafts are coated with titanium nitride, a hard ceramic compound that significantly increases hardness compared to bare aluminium, providing superior resistance to scratching and surface damage that occurs during regular use and maintenance.
- Enhanced Durability — The TiN coating creates a protective barrier that extends the lifespan of your shock shafts by reducing wear and corrosion, meaning your GTR shocks will perform reliably for longer and require less frequent replacement.
- Smoother Performance — The smooth, hard surface finish of the TiN coating reduces friction between the shaft and shock seals, resulting in noticeably smoother shock action, more consistent damping characteristics, and improved suspension response across all track conditions.
- Longer Seal Life — Because the TiN-coated surface is harder and smoother, the internal seals experience less abrasion and wear, significantly extending the service life of your shock seals and reducing the need for frequent seal replacements.
- Direct Compatibility — These shafts are engineered as direct replacements for stock GTR shock shafts, ensuring perfect fitment with your existing shock bodies and requiring no modification or adjustment to your suspension setup.
- Quantity Package — Each package includes two shock shafts, allowing you to upgrade both shocks on an axle or complete a full suspension refresh on dual-shock setups.
Technical Performance
These Traxxas GTR shock shafts represent a significant engineering upgrade over stock components. The titanium nitride coating process applies a hard, wear-resistant layer to the aluminium shaft substrate, creating a hybrid component that combines the lightweight properties of aluminium with the durability of advanced ceramic coatings. This is the same coating technology used in professional motorsport and precision engineering applications, now available for RC car enthusiasts in the UK. The coating thickness is precisely controlled during manufacture to ensure consistent hardness and smoothness across the entire shaft length, maintaining the original dimensions and fitment whilst delivering measurably improved performance. When installed in your GTR shock bodies, these shafts work with the internal spring, oil damping, and seal components to deliver smoother, more predictable suspension action. The reduced friction from the smooth TiN surface means less energy is wasted in internal resistance, allowing the damping characteristics to be expressed more effectively. This translates to better feedback through the chassis, more responsive steering input, and improved stability under braking and acceleration. For competitive RC racing, this level of suspension refinement can make the difference between a good setup and a race-winning setup. Even for recreational bashers, the improved smoothness and reliability make these shafts a worthwhile investment that will pay dividends over the lifetime of your shocks.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the benefit of titanium nitride coating on RC shock shafts? — Titanium nitride creates a much harder, smoother surface than bare aluminium. This reduces scratching and wear on the shaft, extends the life of your shock seals, improves the smoothness of suspension action, and reduces friction for more responsive handling. The coating is commonly used in high-performance applications and is a proven upgrade for serious RC enthusiasts.
- Will these shafts fit my Traxxas GTR shocks? — Yes, these shafts are engineered as direct replacements for stock GTR shock shafts. They use the same diameter, length, and connection points as the originals, ensuring perfect fitment with your existing shock bodies without any modification required.
- Do I need to replace the entire shock or just the shaft? — You only need to replace the shaft itself. The new TiN-coated shafts work with your existing shock bodies, springs, oil, and seals. Installation is straightforward and requires only basic RC tools. This makes upgrading significantly more cost-effective than replacing complete shocks.
- How much will these shafts improve my RC car's handling? — The improvement in suspension smoothness is noticeable, particularly in how the shocks respond to bumps and maintain consistent damping throughout a run. You'll notice smoother steering response, more predictable handling in corners, and better stability under acceleration and braking. Competitive racers typically see lap time improvements when upgrading to higher-quality suspension components.
- How long will the titanium nitride coating last? — Titanium nitride is extremely durable and hard. With proper maintenance and care, these coated shafts will outlast several sets of stock aluminium shafts. The coating is resistant to scratching and wear, making it an excellent long-term investment for your suspension.
- Can I use these shafts with different shock oils or springs? — Yes, absolutely. These shafts are compatible with all GTR shock oils and spring configurations. You can mix and match them with any GTR shock components, giving you complete flexibility in tuning your suspension setup.
- Are these suitable for both racing and bashing? — Completely. Whether you're competing on a track or enjoying recreational off-road bashing, these upgraded shafts will improve your suspension performance and durability. The extended seal life is particularly valuable for bashers who put their RC cars through demanding conditions.
