Overview

The Traxxas Spring, shock (Red) (GTR) (3.8 rate Gold) (1 pair) TRX5439 is an essential suspension tuning component for RC enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision performance from their GTR shock systems. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your setup or a weekend basher looking to optimise your vehicle's handling characteristics, these high-quality shock springs offer the perfect solution for suspension adjustment. As part of Traxxas's comprehensive range of GTR suspension components, these springs represent the gold standard in RC car UK performance upgrades, allowing you to compensate for different vehicle configurations and track conditions with ease.

These shock springs are specifically engineered for the GTR shock platform, which is renowned across the RC community for delivering consistent, predictable performance across a wide range of driving styles and conditions. The 3.8-rate specification provides a medium-stiff spring option that works exceptionally well for many drivers and setups, making this an ideal choice whether you're running a lighter or heavier vehicle configuration. The distinctive gold stripe coloration isn't just for aesthetics—it's a practical identifier that helps you quickly recognise your spring rate when managing multiple suspension options in your RC pit box.

If you're serious about getting the most from your RC car UK experience, understanding suspension tuning is crucial, and these Traxxas GTR springs are your gateway to unlocking your vehicle's true potential. The pair format means you're getting a complete front or rear suspension upgrade, allowing for immediate installation and testing of how your chosen spring rate affects handling, stability, and overall responsiveness.

Key Features

  • High-Quality Spring Steel Construction — These shock springs are manufactured from premium spring steel that has been engineered to maintain consistent performance over thousands of compression cycles, ensuring reliable and repeatable handling characteristics whether you're on the track or bashing in the garden.
  • Durable Red Powder-Coated Finish — The protective powder-coat provides both aesthetic appeal and functional protection against corrosion, dirt, and moisture, extending the lifespan of your springs and keeping them looking fresh even after intensive use in outdoor RC car UK environments.
  • 3.8-Rate Gold Stripe Specification — The 3.8-rate designation indicates a medium-stiff spring that strikes an excellent balance between compliance and support, making it suitable for a wide variety of driving styles, track surfaces, and vehicle weights without requiring extreme tuning adjustments.
  • Colour-Coded Identification — The gold stripe on the end of each spring provides immediate visual identification of the spring rate, eliminating confusion when you're swapping components or managing multiple spring rates for different conditions and setups.
  • Suspension Performance Tuning — By selecting the correct spring rate for your vehicle configuration and driving style, you can precisely compensate for lighter or heavier truck setups, improving suspension responsiveness, reducing body roll, and optimising ground contact for maximum traction and stability.
  • Sold in Pairs — This product includes two springs, providing you with a complete suspension upgrade for either the front or rear axle, or allowing you to upgrade both if purchasing multiple packs, without the need to buy individual components separately.
  • Part of Traxxas GTR Range — These springs are fully compatible with the complete GTR shock ecosystem, meaning they integrate seamlessly with other Traxxas suspension components and represent an investment in a proven, widely-supported suspension platform used by competitors and enthusiasts worldwide.

Technical Performance

The engineering behind these Traxxas GTR shock springs reflects decades of suspension development and real-world RC racing feedback. The 3.8-rate specification sits in the middle of the GTR spring range, offering an excellent entry point for drivers who want to tune their suspension without committing to extreme stiffness or softness. Higher spring rates provide stiffer suspension characteristics, which can improve cornering stability, reduce body roll, and maintain consistent ride height during aggressive driving. Conversely, softer springs provide more compliance over rough terrain and can improve traction on bumpy surfaces. The 3.8-rate therefore represents a versatile sweet spot that works across diverse conditions and vehicle configurations. These springs are constructed from high-quality spring steel selected specifically for its ability to maintain its properties across temperature ranges and extended use cycles—critical factors for competitive driving or frequent weekend bashing. The powder-coated finish provides additional durability and corrosion resistance, particularly important in the UK's variable weather conditions where moisture exposure is inevitable. The springs are designed to work in conjunction with the complete GTR shock platform, and their performance characteristics have been validated through extensive testing by Traxxas engineers and professional RC drivers. When you're making suspension adjustments to your RC car UK setup, spring rate selection is one of the most impactful tuning variables available, and these springs from Traxxas represent a trusted solution backed by the manufacturer's reputation for quality and performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 3.8 spring rate mean and how does it affect my RC car's performance? — The spring rate number indicates how stiff the spring is. A 3.8-rate spring is considered medium-stiff within the GTR range. Higher rates mean stiffer springs that reduce suspension travel and body roll, improving cornering stability and maintaining ride height during aggressive driving. Lower rates provide softer, more compliant suspension that improves traction over rough terrain. The 3.8-rate is versatile enough for most driving styles and vehicle configurations, making it an excellent general-purpose choice for RC car UK enthusiasts.
  • Will these springs fit my vehicle immediately, or do I need special tools to install them? — These springs are designed to fit GTR shock platforms directly. Installation requires removing your existing springs from the shock bodies and inserting these new springs—a straightforward process that typically requires only basic RC tools like a shock tool or small wrench. No special installation equipment is needed, making this an accessible upgrade for anyone with basic RC maintenance knowledge.
  • What is the difference between the gold stripe and other colour options available for GTR springs? — Traxxas uses colour stripes to indicate different spring rates within the GTR range. The gold stripe denotes the 3.8-rate specification. Other colours represent softer or stiffer rates. This colour-coding system makes it easy to identify spring rates at a glance, particularly helpful when you're managing multiple setups or swapping springs for different conditions. The gold stripe 3.8-rate sits in the middle of the range, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.
  • Can I mix different spring rates on the front and rear of my RC car? — Yes, many RC drivers use different spring rates front and rear to fine-tune their suspension balance. Some may run a softer rate in front for traction and a stiffer rate in the rear for stability, or vice versa depending on track conditions and driving preferences. Experimenting with different rate combinations is a key part of suspension tuning and can significantly improve your vehicle's handling characteristics.
  • How often should I replace these shock springs? — With proper care, quality spring steel springs like these Traxxas components can last many seasons of regular use. Springs gradually lose their stiffness over time through metal fatigue, so if you notice your suspension feeling softer or less responsive than when new, it may be time to replace them. Inspect springs regularly for visible damage, bending, or coating damage that could accelerate wear.
  • Are these springs suitable for both racing and recreational bashing? — Absolutely. The 3.8-rate spring is versatile enough for both competitive track racing and casual weekend bashing. Whether you're chasing lap times at your local track or exploring trails and rough terrain, these springs provide the balanced performance needed for reliable, predictable handling across diverse driving scenarios and environments.
