Overview
The Traxxas Spring, shock (Red) (GTR) (2.9 rate White) (1 pair) TRX5436 is an essential suspension upgrade component for RC enthusiasts running Traxxas GTR vehicles. Whether you're a serious racer, weekend basher, or someone discovering the world of high-performance RC cars in the UK, these replacement shock springs are engineered to deliver precise suspension tuning and consistent performance. As part of Traxxas's renowned GTR shock system, these springs represent professional-grade engineering at an accessible price point, making them ideal for anyone looking to optimise their RC car's handling characteristics.
GTR shock springs are purpose-built suspension components that allow you to fine-tune your vehicle's performance based on track conditions, driving style, and vehicle configuration. The ability to adjust spring rates is what separates casual RC drivers from serious competitors, and these springs give you that competitive edge. Available in multiple rates, the 2.9-rate option with white stripe identification provides a specific stiffness profile that suits particular vehicle weights and driving scenarios. These springs are sold as a pair, so you're getting a matched set designed to work together for balanced suspension geometry and predictable handling in both on-road and off-road RC applications across the UK and beyond.
Key Features
- High-quality spring steel construction — These springs are manufactured from premium spring steel, ensuring consistent performance, excellent durability, and resistance to fatigue over thousands of driving cycles. This material choice means your springs will maintain their intended rate and characteristics even after extended use, which is critical for maintaining predictable handling in competitive RC racing or casual bashing scenarios.
- Durable red powder-coated finish — The distinctive red powder coating protects the springs from corrosion, rust, and environmental damage whilst maintaining their aesthetic appeal. This protective finish is particularly important for RC car owners in the UK, where moisture and varying weather conditions can compromise uncoated metal components, extending the lifespan of your suspension parts significantly.
- 2.9-rate stiffness with white stripe identification — The 2.9 spring rate determines how resistant the spring is to compression, with the white stripe serving as a clear visual identifier for quick, tool-free identification. This specific rate is engineered to balance responsiveness with stability, making it suitable for a range of driving conditions and vehicle configurations without requiring constant adjustment.
- Suspension tuning capability — By selecting different spring rates, you can compensate for lighter or heavier vehicle configurations, adapt to changing track conditions, or adjust your vehicle's ride height and handling characteristics. This tuning ability is what separates the Traxxas GTR system from budget alternatives, giving you full control over your RC car's suspension performance.
- Rate differentiation for performance optimisation — The higher the spring rate, the stiffer the spring, which affects how your vehicle responds to bumps, corners, and acceleration. Understanding and selecting the correct rate is essential for serious RC enthusiasts who want to dial in their vehicle's suspension for maximum performance on their chosen terrain or track.
- Sold as a matched pair — Both springs in this package are manufactured to identical specifications, ensuring balanced suspension performance and preventing unwanted handling quirks caused by mismatched suspension components. Matched pairs are essential for maintaining symmetrical handling and predictable vehicle behaviour during high-speed driving or racing.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas GTR shock springs represent professional-grade suspension engineering designed for vehicles requiring precise handling characteristics and consistent performance across varying conditions. Constructed from premium spring steel with a protective red powder-coated finish, these springs are engineered to maintain their stiffness rating across thousands of compression cycles without degradation. The 2.9-rate specification positions these springs in the mid-range of Traxxas's spring rate options, making them suitable for vehicles of moderate weight or for drivers seeking a balanced approach to suspension tuning. The white stripe identification system eliminates confusion when managing multiple spring sets, allowing you to quickly identify the correct rate for your application. In the context of 1/10 scale RC vehicles, suspension springs are critical components that directly influence how your car responds to terrain, handles corners, and maintains traction during acceleration and braking. The engineering philosophy behind GTR springs focuses on delivering consistent performance regardless of driving style, whether you're pushing hard in competitive racing or enjoying casual weekend bashing with your RC car. The ability to tune suspension through spring rate selection is one of the most cost-effective ways to optimise vehicle performance without investing in complete suspension overhauls, making these replacement springs an intelligent choice for anyone serious about maximising their RC car's potential.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What vehicles are these springs compatible with? — These Traxxas GTR shock springs are designed for use with Traxxas vehicles that utilise the GTR shock system. The GTR platform encompasses various Traxxas models, so you should verify your specific vehicle model is compatible with GTR shocks before purchasing. If you're unsure whether your RC car uses GTR shocks, our experienced team at RC Model Shop can help you confirm compatibility.
- What does the 2.9 spring rate mean? — The spring rate indicates how stiff the spring is. A 2.9 rate is considered a mid-range stiffness level in Traxxas's GTR spring lineup. Higher rates mean stiffer springs that resist compression more strongly, whilst lower rates provide softer springs that compress more easily. The 2.9 rate is versatile and suits a broad range of driving conditions and vehicle weights, making it an excellent choice for general purpose RC car tuning.
- Why would I need different spring rates? — Different spring rates allow you to tune your vehicle's suspension to match your specific needs. If your vehicle feels too soft and bouncy, upgrading to a stiffer (higher) rate can improve stability. If your vehicle feels harsh and doesn't absorb bumps well, a softer (lower) rate can improve ride comfort and traction. Spring rate selection also depends on vehicle weight, driving style, and track conditions, making it a fundamental aspect of RC vehicle tuning.
- How often should I replace my shock springs? — Quality spring steel springs like these GTR components maintain their stiffness through extended use. You should replace them if you notice visible damage, cracks, or if they no longer maintain the correct height and feel, which could indicate fatigue or deformation. Regularly inspect your springs during maintenance routines to catch any issues early.
- Why is the powder-coated finish important? — The red powder coating protects the underlying spring steel from rust, corrosion, and environmental damage. This is particularly important for RC enthusiasts in the UK, where moisture and variable weather conditions can quickly degrade uncoated metal. A protective coating ensures your springs maintain their appearance and structural integrity over their entire lifespan.
- Can I mix and match different spring rates on my vehicle? — Whilst technically possible, it's not recommended. Mixing different spring rates between front and rear, or left and right sides, will create handling imbalances and unpredictable behaviour. Always use matched pairs of the same rate for consistent, predictable suspension performance. If you need different stiffness characteristics, upgrade all springs to the same new rate.
- What is the difference between GTR springs and other shock springs? — Traxxas GTR springs are specifically engineered for the GTR shock system, featuring compatible dimensions, mounting points, and rate specifications tailored to that platform. Using the correct spring type ensures proper fitment, optimal performance, and prevents suspension geometry issues. Other spring types may not fit correctly or may not deliver the intended performance characteristics.
