With a maximum 2-amp output, this is the perfect companion for 5-7-cell NiMH battery packs operating at 6.0-8.4 volts, making it ideal for a wide range of Traxxas electric RC vehicles. For RC enthusiasts in the UK seeking a versatile, intelligent charging solution that combines portability with performance, the TRX2949 is an essential addition to your RC toolkit.
What sets this charger apart from basic alternatives is its commitment to delivering maximum power reliably. Not all USB-C power supplies and cables are created equal, which is why Traxxas backs this charger with high-quality USB-C accessories guaranteed to deliver full power every time you charge. The included high-output 100-watt USB-C cable ensures you get maximum performance, making this one of the most dependable NiMH charging solutions available for modern RC enthusiasts.
Key Features
- USB-C Powered Design — Utilising modern USB-C technology means you can charge your batteries virtually anywhere using a standard USB-C power supply, offering unprecedented flexibility and portability compared to older charging solutions. This is especially valuable for UK RC events, club meetings, or charging at home without dedicated electrical infrastructure.
- 20-Watt Maximum Output — The charger delivers a robust 20-watt power output with a 2-amp maximum charge rate, providing fast charging times for your NiMH batteries whilst maintaining safety and battery longevity. This power level is perfectly calibrated for 5-7-cell packs and represents a significant advantage over lower-wattage charging solutions.
- Traxxas iD System Auto-Recognition — The intelligent iD system automatically recognises your Traxxas iD battery the instant you plug it in, eliminating any possibility of user error or incorrect charge settings. This automatic recognition is the safest way to charge your batteries, as the charger optimises every parameter based on your specific battery's requirements without requiring any manual input.
- Automatic Charge Settings Optimisation — Rather than applying one-size-fits-all charging profiles, this charger dynamically optimises its settings for each individual battery, ensuring optimal charge times, maximum battery lifespan, and complete safety throughout the charging cycle. This level of intelligence is what separates Traxxas chargers from generic alternatives.
- LED Progress Indicator — A clear LED progress indicator keeps you informed of your charging status at a glance, allowing you to instantly see when your battery has reached full charge or if there are any issues requiring attention. This visual feedback eliminates uncertainty and keeps you in control of your charging process.
- NiMH Battery Compatibility (5-7 Cell, 6.0-8.4V) — Specifically engineered to charge NiMH (nickel-metal hydride) batteries in 5-cell through 7-cell configurations operating between 6.0 and 8.4 volts, this charger covers a comprehensive range of Traxxas electric RC vehicles, from stadium trucks to buggies and beyond.
- Guaranteed Maximum Power Delivery — Traxxas includes a high-quality USB-C cable and endorses premium USB-C power adapters to guarantee full 100-watt power delivery, ensuring your charger never operates at reduced capacity due to inadequate power delivery from inferior cables or adapters.
Technical Performance
The TRX2949 represents the pinnacle of portable NiMH charging technology for modern RC enthusiasts. Engineered with precision and built to Traxxas's exacting standards, this charger combines intelligent electronics with robust construction to deliver consistent, reliable performance session after session. The 20-watt power output at 2-amp maximum provides an optimal charging rate for 5-7-cell NiMH packs in the 6.0-8.4 volt range, striking the perfect balance between charge speed and battery health. The integration of the Traxxas iD system represents a significant engineering achievement—microprocessor-controlled charge algorithms instantly analyse your battery's characteristics and adjust charging parameters on the fly to ensure maximum safety and lifespan. The charger's LED progress indicator provides real-time feedback, removing ambiguity from the charging process. Built with reliability as a core principle, this charger features premium USB-C connectivity that eliminates the fragility associated with proprietary connectors. For UK RC hobbyists who demand professional-grade charging without compromise, the TRX2949 delivers engineering excellence in a compact, portable format that's ready for action anywhere you take your RC models.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Traxxas iD system and why does it matter for charging NiMH batteries? — The Traxxas iD system is an intelligent battery identification and charge optimisation technology that automatically recognises compatible iD batteries and adjusts the charger's settings for perfect charging every time. Rather than applying generic charge profiles, the iD system customises charging parameters to your specific battery, which means faster charge times, longer battery life, and complete safety. This is the easiest and safest way to charge your Traxxas batteries, as there's no guesswork involved—just plug in your iD battery and let the charger do the rest.
- Will this charger work with all my NiMH batteries? — This charger is designed for NiMH batteries specifically in 5-7-cell configurations operating at 6.0-8.4 volts. If your battery has Traxxas iD technology, the charger will automatically recognise and optimise for it. For compatibility with specific battery packs you own, verify that they are NiMH type and fall within the 5-7-cell and 6.0-8.4 volt specifications. The auto-recognition feature works exclusively with Traxxas iD batteries.
- Can I use any USB-C power supply with this charger? — While the charger features USB-C connectivity, Traxxas recommends using a high-quality USB-C power adapter capable of delivering full power. Not all USB-C power supplies are equal—lower-quality adapters may limit power delivery and slow your charging times. Traxxas guarantees maximum power delivery when using their endorsed high-output USB-C power solutions combined with the included premium USB-C cable.
- How long does it take to charge a typical 5-7-cell NiMH battery? — Charge times vary depending on your specific battery capacity and the power supply used, but the 2-amp maximum output at 20 watts provides rapid charging compared to lower-wattage solutions. The exact charge time will depend on your battery's mAh capacity, but you can expect significantly faster charging than with basic or older charger designs.
- Is this charger suitable for beginners to RC in the UK? — Absolutely. The Traxxas iD system makes this charger exceptionally beginner-friendly because there are no settings to adjust or decisions to make—simply plug in your iD battery and the charger handles everything automatically. This eliminates the learning curve associated with traditional manual chargers and makes safe, optimal charging accessible to everyone from complete newcomers to experienced RC competitors.
- What makes this USB-C charger better than older charging solutions? — This charger modernises NiMH charging with USB-C convenience, allowing you to charge virtually anywhere using standard USB-C power supplies rather than being tethered to mains electricity with proprietary connectors. The 20-watt output with 2-amp charging provides significantly faster charging than older designs, whilst the intelligent iD system ensures perfect results every time by automatically optimising charge settings for your specific battery.
