Overview

Traxxas Big Bore shocks represent the ultimate in suspension performance and durability for your RC short course truck, buggy or truggy. Whether you're a seasoned racer looking to fine-tune your setup or an enthusiast wanting to dramatically improve your RC car's handling characteristics, these professionally engineered dampers deliver exceptional bump and jump control that transforms how your vehicle performs both on-road and off-road. Built to Traxxas's exacting standards, Big Bore shocks are the choice of serious RC drivers across the UK who demand reliability lap after punishing lap.

These short-length shocks (assembled with 32mm shafts, with 29mm shafts included) come as a 2-piece front and rear set and are fully assembled and ready to install straight from the box. The engineering philosophy behind Traxxas Big Bore shocks is simple: no compromises. Every component, from the precision-machined aluminium bodies to the premium shock shafts, has been selected and refined to deliver consistent suspension response and rock-solid reliability that keeps pace with your driving ambitions.

Compatible with Traxxas Slash, Stampede, Rustler and Nitro Sport models (both nitro and electric versions), these shocks are a recognised upgrade path for RC enthusiasts looking to maximise their vehicle's potential. The factory-fresh appearance combined with proven performance gains make Big Bore shocks the smart choice when you're ready to take your RC car UK experience to the next level.

Key Features

  • Hard-anodised T6 aluminium construction — The shock bodies are manufactured from premium 6061-T6 aluminium and finished with a hard-anodised coating that dramatically increases strength, durability and resistance to wear, ensuring these shocks maintain their performance and appearance through countless bashing sessions and race events.
  • PTFE-coated shock bores — The bores are coated with Teflon (PTFE), which reduces internal friction to nearly zero, delivering instant suspension response and silky-smooth damping action that feels noticeably more refined than standard shocks and translates to better vehicle control.
  • Titanium-nitride coated shafts — The shock shafts feature a premium titanium-nitride (TiN) coating that resists scuffing, extends component wear life and reduces friction, ensuring consistent damping performance even after extended use in demanding conditions.
  • Dual silicone X-ring seals — These high-quality seals provide a perfect seal around the shock shaft, preventing oil leakage whilst maintaining super-smooth suspension travel with zero stiction, meaning your shocks perform the same on lap one as they do on lap fifty.
  • Progressive-rate springs included — The shock package includes properly sized progressive-rate springs that match the specification of stock Slash shocks, meaning immediate compatibility and correct suspension geometry without needing additional purchases.
  • Fully assembled and ready to install — Both shocks arrive completely assembled with springs pre-mounted, dramatically reducing installation time and ensuring proper assembly by Traxxas factory technicians, so you can spend more time driving and less time building.
  • Clip-on spring pre-load spacers — Suspension tuning is a snap with the included spring pre-load spacers that clip directly onto the shocks, allowing you to adjust compression characteristics quickly and easily to dial in your perfect setup for different track conditions.
  • Increased oil capacity — The large-diameter bore design holds significantly more damping oil than standard shocks, providing superior heat dissipation during extended driving sessions and more consistent performance as your RC car works harder.
  • Dual shaft option included — These shocks are assembled with 32mm shafts for optimum performance, and 29mm shafts are also included in the package, allowing you to experiment with different shaft lengths to fine-tune your vehicle's handling balance.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas Big Bore shock system represents years of engineering refinement focused on one goal: delivering world-class suspension performance that rivals competition-grade equipment. The machined aluminium bodies provide structural rigidity whilst remaining lightweight, and the hard-anodised finish adds a layer of corrosion resistance that extends component life, particularly important if you're running your RC truck through water crossings or in challenging weather conditions. Inside, the engineering is equally impressive: the PTFE-coated bores virtually eliminate friction, meaning minimal resistance to smooth suspension travel and maximum responsiveness to track inputs. The titanium-nitride coated shafts are premium-quality components normally found on high-end aftermarket shocks; this coating technology resists scuffing that occurs during normal damping cycles, extends the useful life of the shafts and reduces microscopic friction that can accumulate over hundreds of jumps and rough landings. The dual silicone X-ring seals maintain a perfect seal between shaft and bore throughout the entire suspension travel range, preventing oil from weeping out whilst maintaining that buttery-smooth feel that makes Big Bore shocks instantly recognisable once you've experienced them. The progressive-rate springs are carefully calibrated and matched to the 1/10 Slash platform geometry, meaning you get proper suspension rates without the need for guesswork or additional tuning parts. The shock assembly includes 32mm shafts already installed for optimised performance, with 29mm alternative shafts included if you want to experiment with different damping characteristics. Shock lengths are engineered specifically for each position: 85mm for the front and 100mm for the rear, ensuring correct ride height and suspension geometry on Slash, Stampede and Rustler models. Whether you're running electric (brushless or brushed) or nitro engines, the Big Bore shocks deliver identical suspension characteristics, making them the universal choice for RC enthusiasts who want performance without compromise.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Will these Big Bore shocks fit my Traxxas RC car? — These shocks are specifically designed for Traxxas Slash, Stampede, Rustler (both nitro and electric models) and Nitro Sport. The short-length variant with 32mm shafts suits standard Slash platforms. Always verify your model compatibility before ordering, as Traxxas produces both short and long shock variants for different vehicle platforms.
  • What makes Big Bore shocks better than standard shocks? — The key difference is the larger diameter bore design combined with PTFE-coated internals and titanium-nitride shafts. These features dramatically reduce internal friction, meaning your suspension responds more instantly to bumps and jumps, and the increased oil capacity provides superior damping consistency during extended driving sessions. Real-world feedback from UK RC drivers consistently reports noticeably improved handling and more predictable suspension behaviour.
  • Are these suitable for beginners? — Absolutely. Whilst Big Bore shocks are popular with competition drivers, they're equally valuable for beginners because they dramatically improve vehicle handling and make your RC car more predictable and easier to control. The fully assembled design means beginners can install them without specialist tools or technical knowledge, making this an ideal first upgrade for any Traxxas owner looking to improve their RC car's performance.
  • Can I use different shaft lengths? — Yes. These shocks are assembled with 32mm shafts, but 29mm shafts are included in the package. Experimenting with different shaft lengths allows you to fine-tune your suspension compression and rebound characteristics to match your driving style and track conditions. Shorter shafts generally provide slightly stiffer damping characteristics.
  • Do I need to service these shocks? — Traxxas Big Bore shocks are engineered for durability and long service life. The hard-anodised aluminium construction and PTFE-coated bores significantly reduce wear compared to standard shocks. For best results with frequent use, occasional inspection and damping oil checks are recommended, but these shocks require no special maintenance beyond standard RC vehicle care.
  • What's the difference between 32mm and 29mm shafts? — The shaft diameter affects how the shock oil flows around the shaft during compression and rebound. Longer shaft diameters (32mm) provide slightly different damping characteristics compared to shorter diameters (29mm). The package includes both options so you can tune your suspension to your preference and driving style.
  • Will these improve my RC vehicle's jump performance? — Big Bore shocks provide excellent bump and jump control, meaning more consistent suspension action during landing impacts and better control whilst airborne. However, suspension alone doesn't determine jump capability; body weight, centre of gravity and driving technique all contribute. What you'll definitely notice is more predictable and forgiving suspension behaviour when hitting jumps.
  • Are these shocks waterproof? — The shock bodies are aluminium with sealed construction, and the dual silicone X-ring seals provide excellent water resistance. Whilst the shocks themselves can handle water, for extended water running we'd still recommend rinsing your vehicle after use to protect other electronic components like your ESC and servo.
