Overview
The Traxxas Drag Link Steering component is an essential upgrade for owners of the Traxxas Maxx Slash 1/8 4WD brushless short course truck. This precision-engineered steering assembly is machined from tough 6061-T6 aluminium and finished in brilliant hard-anodised blue, delivering both exceptional performance and eye-catching aesthetics to your RC car. Whether you are a seasoned competitor looking to maximise steering precision or a weekend basher wanting to enhance your truck's durability, this aluminium drag link is a worthy investment that will transform your driving experience on the track or trail.
Steering performance is critical in any RC short course truck, especially when you are pushing your Maxx Slash to its limits at high speeds across rough terrain. The factory plastic steering components can wear and flex under extreme conditions, leading to sluggish response and inconsistent handling. This heavy-duty drag link upgrade replaces the standard component with a rigid, durable aluminium alternative that maintains perfect steering geometry even during intense driving sessions. Built from the same premium 6061-T6 aluminium alloy used in aerospace engineering, this drag link combines strength with minimal weight penalty, ensuring your RC truck responds instantly and accurately to every input from your transmitter.
Beyond pure performance, this steering component adds genuine visual upgrade to your Maxx Slash. The brilliant hard-anodised blue finish is not merely cosmetic—the anodising process creates a protective oxide layer that resists corrosion and wear, ensuring your drag link maintains its stunning appearance season after season. If you are serious about optimising your 1/8 scale short course truck for competition or casual play, this Traxxas steering upgrade belongs on your parts list.
Key Features
- 6061-T6 Aluminium Construction — Machined from premium aerospace-grade aluminium alloy, this drag link offers superior strength compared to plastic alternatives whilst maintaining a lightweight profile that does not compromise your truck's handling balance or speed performance.
- Hard-Anodised Blue Finish — The brilliant hard-anodised coating provides both aesthetic appeal and functional protection, creating a durable surface that resists corrosion from moisture, mud, and salt spray encountered during outdoor RC driving sessions across the UK.
- Precision Steering Response — The rigid aluminium construction eliminates flex and wear that plagues plastic steering linkages, delivering silky-smooth, consistent turning action that translates to faster lap times and more predictable handling characteristics in competition or casual play.
- Included Bearing Set — The drag link comes complete with five 5x8x2.5mm bearings and two 5x10x4mm bearings that enable the bellcrank assembly to pivot precisely with minimal friction, ensuring responsive steering input throughout extended driving sessions.
- Direct Maxx Slash Compatibility — This component is specifically engineered to fit Traxxas Maxx Slash 1/8 4WD 6S brushless short course trucks across all colour variants, making installation straightforward and installation-error proof for owners upgrading their chassis.
- Complete Hardware Included — All fasteners and mounting hardware needed for installation are supplied in the box, eliminating the need to source additional parts and ensuring you can upgrade your truck's steering immediately upon purchase.
Technical Performance
The Traxxas Drag Link Steering component represents a significant engineering upgrade over plastic steering linkages found on stock Maxx Slash trucks. Manufactured from 6061-T6 aluminium—an alloy renowned for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio and superior machinability—this drag link provides the rigidity necessary for precise steering response at high speed whilst adding negligible weight to your chassis. The hard-anodised finish is achieved through an electrochemical process that creates a corrosion-resistant oxide layer, protecting the aluminium against oxidation and extending the lifespan of the component beyond that of untreated metal or plastic alternatives. The precision-engineered design incorporates bearing mounting points sized to accommodate the supplied 5x8x2.5mm and 5x10x4mm bearings, which enable the bellcrank assembly to pivot with minimal rotational friction and maximum angular response. This bearing-equipped design is critical for 1/8 scale short course truck applications where steering accuracy and durability under extreme racing loads directly influence lap times and component longevity. The drag link serves as the primary mechanical link between your truck's bellcrank steering assembly and the front wheels, meaning any improvement in rigidity, precision, and durability directly translates to improved handling characteristics and more predictable steering feel during competition driving or casual bashing sessions across terrain ranging from smooth tarmac to loose dirt and gravel.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Will this drag link fit my Traxxas Maxx Slash? — Yes, this drag link (model TRX10239-BLUE) is specifically designed and tested for direct compatibility with all variants of the Traxxas Maxx Slash 1/8 4WD 6S brushless short course truck, including the Rock N Roll, Blue, Red, and Green colour options. Installation is straightforward and requires only basic tools.
- What is the advantage of aluminium over plastic steering components? — Aluminium offers superior rigidity compared to plastic, meaning the drag link will not flex or bend under hard steering loads, which is critical when pushing your short course truck to the limit in competition or challenging off-road conditions. This rigidity translates directly to more responsive steering, better handling predictability, and improved lap times. Additionally, aluminium is far more durable and resistant to impact damage than plastic.
- Do I need any special tools to install this drag link? — Installation requires only standard RC tool sets including small spanners, hex drivers, and a socket set compatible with the fastening hardware. The drag link installation typically takes 15–30 minutes depending on your mechanical experience. Full installation instructions are available from Traxxas if required.
- How long will the hard-anodised finish last? — The hard-anodised finish creates a protective oxide layer that is significantly more durable than painted surfaces or bare aluminium. Under normal use and maintenance, the finish should last for years without visible degradation, corrosion, or colour fading. Occasional washing with fresh water after muddy or salty driving sessions will help preserve the finish indefinitely.
- What is the difference between this blue drag link and other colour options? — The performance and specifications of this blue drag link are identical to other colour variants; the difference is purely aesthetic. Choose the blue version to match your truck's colour scheme or personal preference. The hard-anodised coating is applied consistently regardless of colour, ensuring identical durability and protective qualities.
- Is this upgrade suitable for beginners? — Yes, whilst this is categorised as a performance upgrade, the installation process is straightforward and suitable for RC enthusiasts of all experience levels. The drag link simply replaces the factory plastic component using the same mounting points and fasteners, making it an ideal first chassis upgrade for newcomers to RC tuning.
