Overview
The Radient RS-SM116-PG Sub-Micro 8g Analog Servo (RDNA0400) represents exceptional value for RC hobbyists seeking a compact, reliable servo solution for lightweight aircraft, small-scale RC models and precision applications. This submicro servo delivers impressive performance in an incredibly compact footprint, making it ideal for models where weight and space are at a premium. Whether you're building a small RC plane, a micro helicopter, or upgrading a lightweight RC car, this servo offers the responsive control and dependable operation that Radient servos are rapidly becoming recognised for across the UK RC hobby community.
Compact and capable, the Radient Analog Submicro 8g Servo offers a practical blend of speed and torque that suits a variety of applications. With its plastic gear construction and iron core motor, this servo delivers responsive control at common receiver voltages, making it an excellent choice for builders who need reliable performance without breaking the bank. The submicro size means you can integrate this servo into tight spaces where standard servos simply won't fit, yet it still provides meaningful torque output for effective control surfaces and light actuation tasks.
Radient servos are rapidly building a reputation for reliability that complements their outstanding value for money. The RS-SM116-PG is engineered to deliver consistent performance across the typical 4.8V to 6.0V operating range, giving you flexibility in your power setup choices. This makes it perfect for RC enthusiasts in the UK looking to add capable servos to their collection without significant expense.
Key Features
- Plastic Gears — Lightweight plastic gear construction keeps the overall servo weight to just 8 grams, making this ideal for weight-sensitive applications where every gram counts, such as micro RC aircraft and small-scale models.
- 3P Iron Core Motor — The 3-pole iron core motor provides consistent torque delivery and responsive control characteristics, ensuring smooth operation across all voltage ranges and reliable performance in demanding applications.
- 24-Tooth Spline — The standard 24-tooth spline is universally compatible with a massive range of servo horns and control linkages, giving you maximum flexibility when setting up your model.
- Responsive Speed at 6.0V — Operating at 6.0V nominal voltage, this servo achieves an impressive 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees, delivering snappy control response for precise model operation and quick input reactions.
- Effective Torque Output — At 6.0V, the servo produces 1.2 kg.cm (16.66 oz-in) of torque, providing sufficient force to control light control surfaces and mechanical linkages without excessive draw on your receiver's power supply.
- Dual Voltage Compatibility — Operating across the 4.8V to 6.0V range means you can run this servo on either 4-cell NiMH battery packs or 2S LiPo batteries, offering flexibility in your power system choices.
- Submicro Form Factor — Measuring just 22.8 x 11.6 x 23.6 millimetres, this servo fits into spaces where larger servos cannot, essential for compact RC models and weight-critical applications.
- Included Servo Horns — The package includes servo control horns, eliminating the need to purchase additional hardware separately and getting you on the flying or driving field faster.
Technical Performance
The Radient RS-SM116-PG sub-micro servo represents intelligent engineering focused on delivering maximum capability in minimal space. At just 8 grams in weight, this servo is engineered for models where every fraction of a gram impacts flight characteristics or handling. The 3P iron core motor is specifically selected for torque consistency and reliability, avoiding the overheating issues that can plague cheaper motor designs under continuous operation. The plastic gear arrangement balances durability against weight considerations—whilst metal gears would offer greater longevity, the plastic option here is engineered to withstand normal recreational use whilst keeping the servo light enough for micro RC aircraft and compact models. The servo operates across the standard 4.8V (typical for 4-cell NiMH receiver packs) and 6.0V (typical for 2S LiPo) voltage range, with measurable performance differences between the two. At 4.8V, you'll see 0.14 seconds per 60 degrees of travel with 1.0 kg.cm of torque—adequate for light control tasks. Stepping up to 6.0V improves both metrics significantly: the servo quickens to 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees with torque increasing to 1.2 kg.cm, offering noticeably snappier response and greater control force. For RC builders in the UK seeking a dependable submicro servo solution, this performance envelope makes the RS-SM116-PG an intelligent choice for microlight aircraft, small RC helicopters, and ultra-lightweight racing drones where traditional servos would be prohibitively heavy.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Radient RS-SM116-PG sub-micro servo suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. This servo is straightforward to install and operate, requiring no special knowledge or tools beyond basic soldering skills to connect the servo lead. The included control horns and standard 24-tooth spline make it easy to set up linkages, and at this price point, it's an excellent learning tool for understanding servo installation and control in RC models.
- What voltage does this submicro servo require? — The Radient RS-SM116-PG operates across a 4.8V to 6.0V range. You can power it with either a traditional 4-cell NiMH receiver battery pack (4.8V nominal) or a modern 2S LiPo battery pack (7.4V nominal with voltage regulator). Most modern RC receivers include integrated voltage regulators that step down 2S LiPo voltage safely to 6.0V for servo operation.
- How fast is this submicro servo? — Speed depends on your operating voltage. At 4.8V, the servo completes 60 degrees of rotation in 0.14 seconds. At 6.0V, this improves to 0.12 seconds per 60 degrees—a meaningful improvement that provides noticeably snappier control response for model aircraft and precision applications. Most RC enthusiasts in the UK recommend running it at 6.0V for the best feel and responsiveness.
- What is the torque output of this servo? — Torque output scales with voltage. At 4.8V, you get 1.0 kg.cm (approximately 13.88 oz-in) of torque. At 6.0V, this increases to 1.2 kg.cm (approximately 16.66 oz-in). This torque level is sufficient for controlling light control surfaces on micro aircraft, small helicopter swashplates, and other lightweight mechanical linkages.
- Will this servo work with my RC aircraft or helicopter? — Absolutely. The submicro size, light weight, and responsive characteristics make this servo ideal for micro RC aeroplanes, small helicopters, and ultralight flying wings. The 24-tooth spline is standard and compatible with virtually all servo horns on the market. Verify your model's servo mounting provisions and linkage clearances before purchase.
- How does the Radient RS-SM116-PG compare to other submicro servos? — The Radient offers exceptional value for money, combining responsive performance and solid torque output at a price point significantly lower than premium brand alternatives. While some premium servos offer metal gears and additional features, the RS-SM116-PG delivers dependable operation suitable for recreational flying and driving, making it an intelligent choice for builders focused on value without sacrificing quality.
- Is this an analog or digital servo? — This is an analog servo, meaning it uses traditional electronic control circuitry rather than digital processing. Analog servos are simpler, more affordable, and fully compatible with standard RC receivers and control systems. They deliver perfectly adequate performance for most RC applications and lack the programming complexity of digital servos.
