Overview
The Traxxas Rebuild Kit for GTR Long and XX-Long shocks (part number TRX7463) is an essential maintenance component for RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand peak performance from their shock absorbers. Whether you're a competitive racer, a weekend basher, or someone who regularly pushes their RC car to the limit, this rebuild kit gives your shocks a complete refresh, restoring them to like-new condition. Traxxas is the world's leading manufacturer of ready-to-run RC vehicles, and their shock rebuild kits are engineered to the same exacting standards as their complete models, ensuring that your suspension performs at its absolute best.
Over time, the internal components of shock absorbers wear down through repeated compression cycles, impacts, and exposure to dust and moisture. When your shocks start to feel less responsive or begin to leak, a complete rebuild is often more cost-effective than replacement. This rebuild kit contains all the internal components needed to service two GTR shocks, making it the perfect choice for maintaining a 1/10 scale RC car or for keeping a backup set of shocks in peak condition. If you own a Traxxas Rustler Ultimate VXL 4x4 or any other model fitted with GTR Long or XX-Long shocks, this kit will help you maintain the handling characteristics and durability that Traxxas is renowned for.
The GTR shock range is found on some of Traxxas's most popular models, and by performing regular maintenance with genuine Traxxas rebuild kits, you'll extend the lifespan of your suspension and maintain consistent performance on track or off-road. This is the kind of product that separates serious RC enthusiasts from casual users—it shows you care about your equipment and want it to perform at its peak every single time you head out with your RC car in the UK.
Key Features
- Complete internal refresh for two shocks — This kit contains everything you need to rebuild two complete GTR shock absorbers, meaning you can fully service your suspension system in one go and keep your RC car handling perfectly balanced.
- X-rings included — The x-ring seals are critical components that prevent shock fluid from leaking around the piston rod, and fresh x-rings restore the hydraulic integrity of your shocks for smooth, responsive suspension action.
- New bladders supplied — The bladder maintains pressure in the shock and controls the spring rate, so a fresh bladder ensures consistent suspension behaviour throughout your driving session.
- Replacement pistons — Pistons control the flow of shock fluid and create the damping effect, and worn pistons reduce shock responsiveness, so new pistons restore sharp handling and precise control.
- Piston nuts included — These fasteners secure the piston assembly inside the shock body, and genuine Traxxas nuts ensure a secure, reliable fit every time.
- Shock rod ends and hollow balls — These components connect the shock to the suspension arms, and worn rod ends create slop in the suspension geometry that degrades handling, so replacements restore precise steering response and cornering performance.
- Genuine Traxxas components — Every part in this kit is manufactured to Traxxas specifications, ensuring perfect fitment and reliability with your existing shocks and suspension system.
- Easy rebuild process — With all components supplied in one kit, rebuilding your shocks becomes a straightforward maintenance task that any RC enthusiast can accomplish with basic tools.
Technical Performance
The GTR shock family represents decades of suspension engineering excellence from Traxxas, and this rebuild kit allows you to maintain that performance standard without the expense of purchasing entirely new shocks. The internal components supplied—pistons, bladders, x-rings, and rod end assemblies—are the wear items that directly affect how your suspension feels and responds to terrain changes and driving inputs. When these components degrade, your shocks lose their ability to maintain proper ride height, they become slower to respond to bumps, and they may begin to leak, which further compromises performance. By replacing these internal components with genuine Traxxas parts, you're restoring your shocks to factory specifications. The kit is specifically engineered for 1/10 scale GTR Long and XX-Long configurations, which are medium-length shocks used on stadium trucks, short-course trucks, and other 1/10 scale racing and recreational RC cars popular in the UK. The materials used in this kit are engineered for durability and consistent performance, whether you're driving on asphalt tracks, dirt courses, or mixed terrain. Rebuilding rather than replacing shocks is also environmentally responsible and represents excellent value for money, as the external shock bodies and springs typically have many more kilometres of life remaining.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How often should I rebuild my RC shock absorbers? — This depends on how frequently you use your RC car and driving conditions. As a general guide, if you drive regularly (several times per week) on dusty or muddy terrain, consider a rebuild every 3-6 months. If you drive casually on clean surfaces, a rebuild once or twice per year is usually sufficient. If you notice your shocks becoming less responsive, leaking fluid, or not returning to full extension, rebuild them immediately.
- Will this kit fit my Traxxas RC car? — This kit is specifically designed for GTR Long and XX-Long shock absorbers. It is confirmed compatible with the Traxxas Rustler Ultimate VXL 4x4 1/10 Brushless (both green and blue versions), and it will fit any other Traxxas model equipped with GTR Long or XX-Long shocks. Check your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop if you're unsure which shock type your model uses.
- Is rebuilding shocks difficult for a beginner? — Shock rebuilds are an intermediate-level maintenance task that most RC enthusiasts can handle with basic tools and patience. You'll need to carefully disassemble the shock, replace the internal components in the correct order, and reassemble everything, ensuring seals are clean and properly seated. If you're new to shock maintenance, we recommend watching Traxxas instructional videos or consulting your model manual for step-by-step guidance. It's a valuable skill that will save you money and keep you in control of your RC car's setup.
- What is the difference between GTR Long and XX-Long shocks? — Both use the same internal components and can be rebuilt with this kit. The difference is in external length and mounting position. GTR Long shocks are the standard length for many 1/10 scale models, while XX-Long shocks are extended versions that provide additional suspension travel and are used on models requiring a higher ride height or more ground clearance. This rebuild kit works for both configurations.
- Why is my shock leaking fluid? — Shock fluid leaks are typically caused by worn x-rings that no longer seal properly around the piston rod, or by damage to the piston or bladder. This rebuild kit supplies fresh x-rings and bladders, which will resolve leaking issues in most cases. If your shock body itself is cracked or damaged, the body will need replacement separately.
- Do I need any special tools to rebuild these shocks? — You'll need basic hand tools: hex keys (Allan keys) for fasteners, screwdrivers, and ideally a shock spanner or spring compressor to make disassembly easier, though experienced RC enthusiasts often manage without specialist tools. A clean, organised workspace is more important than having every tool—keep components in order so you remember how they fit back together.
- Where can I find shock oil to complete the rebuild? — Traxxas and other manufacturers supply shock oil in different viscosities. Thicker oil creates more damping and is better for bumpy terrain, whilst thinner oil allows faster suspension movement and suits smoother surfaces. Your vehicle manual will specify the recommended viscosity. RC Model Shop stocks a range of shock oils and can advise on the right choice for your driving style.
