Overview
The Axial 32P Portal Gears are essential upgrade components designed for owners of the Axial 1/8 AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4x4 RTR brushed trail buggy. These precision-engineered portal gears represent critical drivetrain components that work in harmony with your RC car's transmission system to deliver power from the motor to the wheels with maximum efficiency. Whether you're a dedicated trail enthusiast exploring challenging terrain or a weekend basher pushing your RC car to its limits, having quality replacement portal gears on hand ensures your vehicle maintains peak performance and reliability.
Portal gears are a fundamental part of the axle assembly in modern RC vehicles, and the Axial 32P variant is specifically calibrated for the AXP8 platform. These gears manage torque transfer and rotational speed conversion, making them crucial for maintaining traction and control across various driving conditions. The 13/28T ratio configuration provides a balanced approach to performance, offering a sweet spot between acceleration and top speed characteristics. For RC enthusiasts in the UK seeking genuine Axial replacement parts, these portal gears deliver authentic OEM compatibility and engineering standards you can rely on.
Featuring the AF16P specification, these portal gears are engineered to work seamlessly with your AXP8 vehicle's existing drivetrain architecture. When your current gears show signs of wear or you're rebuilding your RC car for optimal performance, choosing genuine Axial components ensures you're maintaining the exact specifications your vehicle was designed around. RC car UK enthusiasts trust Axial for quality replacement parts that restore their vehicles to factory performance levels.
Key Features
- 32P Pitch Specification — The 32P pitch rating indicates a specific gear module designed to work with compatible components in the AXP8 drivetrain system, ensuring proper mesh and engagement with mating gears for smooth, efficient power delivery without slippage or binding.
- 13/28T Ratio Configuration — This gear ratio pairing provides a carefully balanced performance characteristic, with the 13-tooth pinion working in concert with the 28-tooth gear to manage speed and torque distribution effectively across the axle assembly.
- AF16P Design — The AF16P designation refers to the portal axle specification that these gears are engineered for, ensuring they mate perfectly with the rest of your AXP8's drivetrain without modification or adjustment issues.
- Genuine Axial OEM Component — As an official Axial replacement part, these portal gears meet the manufacturer's exact specifications and quality standards, giving you confidence that you're installing components designed specifically for your vehicle's performance requirements.
- Durable Construction — Axial portal gears are manufactured to withstand the demands of serious RC driving, with robust materials and precision machining that resist wear and degradation even under heavy use and challenging terrain conditions.
- Direct Compatibility — These portal gears are explicitly engineered for use with the Axial 1/8 AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4x4 RTR brushed trail buggy, both in green and red colour variants, eliminating guesswork about fitment and compatibility.
Technical Performance
The Axial 32P Portal Gears deliver precision engineering that forms the backbone of your AXP8's drivetrain performance. Portal gears serve as the critical interface between your vehicle's motor power and wheel rotation, managing the conversion of high-speed motor output into the torque characteristics needed for climbing obstacles and maintaining traction. The 13/28T configuration represents a thoughtfully engineered ratio that provides balanced performance without sacrificing either acceleration or top-end speed capability. In the context of 1/8 scale RC trail buggies and rock crawlers, portal gears must endure significant stress from both acceleration forces and the shock loads generated when navigating uneven terrain. The AF16P specification ensures these gears integrate perfectly with the AXP8's portal axle assembly, which is specifically designed to provide increased ground clearance—a critical advantage for serious trail and rock crawling enthusiasts. When your existing portal gears show signs of wear through increased noise, slipping, or loss of traction feel, these genuine replacement gears restore your vehicle's drivetrain to factory specifications. The precision machining and material selection employed by Axial in manufacturing these gears means they'll perform reliably through countless hours of RC driving, whether you're navigating rocky creek beds, steep hillsides, or technical trail sections that demand unwavering drivetrain consistency.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the purpose of portal gears in my RC trail buggy? — Portal gears are a critical component of your vehicle's axle assembly, responsible for transferring power from the motor to the wheels whilst managing speed and torque conversion. In 1/8 scale RC buggies like the AXP8, portal gears work within a portal axle system that raises the differential higher above the ground, providing increased ground clearance which is essential for rock crawling and technical trail driving without the tyres contacting the chassis or differentials.
- How do I know if my portal gears need replacing? — Common signs that your portal gears require replacement include grinding or unusual noise coming from the axles during acceleration, visible metal particles or debris in the differential oil, loss of traction or slipping sensations whilst driving, or gears that appear visibly worn, chipped, or damaged during inspection.
- Are these genuine Axial parts? — Yes, these are official OEM Axial components manufactured to the exact specifications required for the AXP8 platform, ensuring perfect fitment and performance restoration to factory standards.
- Will these gears fit my AXP8 Gilamon? — These portal gears are specifically engineered for the Axial 1/8 AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4x4 RTR brushed trail buggy, available in both green and red colour variants, so fitment is guaranteed when following proper installation procedures.
- What maintenance do portal gears require? — Portal gears should be regularly inspected for wear and kept properly lubricated with quality differential oil appropriate for RC use, which helps minimise friction, reduce wear, and extend gear life through consistent use and varying terrain conditions.
- Can I install these gears myself? — Portal gear replacement typically requires disassembly of the axle assembly and requires mechanical knowledge of RC drivetrain systems; many users prefer to have experienced RC technicians or authorised dealers handle this work to ensure correct installation and alignment.
