The BLH Tail Motor: 120 S2 (Z-BLH-2012) is an essential replacement component for the Blade 120 S2 micro helicopter, one of the most popular beginner-friendly RC helicopter models available in the UK market. This tail motor is specifically engineered to drive the tail rotor mechanism, providing the directional control and stability that every helicopter pilot depends on during flight. Whether you are a new RC enthusiast just starting your flying journey or an experienced pilot maintaining your equipment, having genuine replacement tail motors on hand ensures minimal downtime and maximum airtime with your beloved micro heli.

The Blade 120 S2 has established itself as the gold standard in entry-level RC helicopter flying, and the quality of its components directly impacts your flight experience. This genuine tail motor is manufactured by Blade, a recognised and trusted brand within the Horizon Hobby family, ensuring compatibility and reliability that aftermarket alternatives simply cannot match. RC helicopter enthusiasts across the UK depend on authentic Blade spare parts to keep their aircraft in peak condition, and this tail motor represents genuine engineering excellence designed specifically for the 120 S2 platform.

If you have experienced a damaged tail motor, are building a backup helicopter, or simply want to maintain a spare parts inventory for your 120 S2, this replacement motor delivers the performance and longevity you expect from a premium RC helicopter component. RC Model Shop stocks this part in regular rotation, reflecting its popularity among serious hobby fliers who understand the importance of genuine replacement parts for their micro helicopter fleet.

Key Features

  • Genuine Blade OEM Component — This is an authorised original equipment manufacturer (OEM) part produced by Blade specifically for the 120 S2 helicopter, ensuring perfect fitment and performance characteristics that match the original factory specifications. Using genuine parts protects your investment in your RC helicopter and maintains warranty coverage where applicable.
  • Designed for the Blade 120 S2 Platform — This motor is engineered to the precise specifications required by the 120 S2 airframe, control systems, and main rotor mechanics. The 120 S2 is renowned as one of the easiest micro helicopters to fly and maintain, and this tail motor component reflects that same commitment to user-friendly, reliable design.
  • Reliable Directional Control — The tail motor drives the tail rotor mechanism, which is absolutely critical for helicopter stability and directional authority. A properly functioning tail motor allows smooth, responsive tail control inputs during flight, whether you are hovering in the garden or performing gentle manoeuvres.
  • Replacement and Upgrade Use — Common reasons to purchase this component include replacing a damaged or worn tail motor from impacts or hard landings, building a second 120 S2 micro helicopter from spare parts, or simply maintaining an inventory of critical spares for frequent fliers who want to minimise downtime between sessions.
  • Easy Installation — Blade has designed the 120 S2 to be accessible for hobbyists at all skill levels, including spare part replacement and maintenance. This tail motor integrates seamlessly into the existing 120 S2 tail boom assembly without requiring specialist tools or advanced technical knowledge.

Technical Performance

The BLH Tail Motor for the 120 S2 is a precision brushless electric motor engineered for the demanding role of tail rotor drive in a lightweight micro helicopter platform. The motor delivers smooth, consistent torque delivery across the operating range, ensuring responsive tail control authority when you input rudder commands through your RC transmitter. Blade's engineering in this component reflects the same philosophy that makes the 120 S2 such an accessible helicopter for new pilots: reliable performance from quality components that work together seamlessly. The motor is designed to operate from the 1S LiPo battery systems standard in the Blade 120 S2 ecosystem, delivering the precise power modulation needed for stable tail rotor speeds during all phases of flight, from hover to forward flight transitions. The brushless construction provides longer operational life compared to older brushed motor designs, reducing maintenance intervals and extending the period between service requirements. This is a critical component in the helicopter's flight control system, as the tail rotor counteracts the torque generated by the main rotor, allowing the pilot to control which direction the helicopter nose points. Quality and reliability in this component directly translate to confidence in the air and more enjoyable flight sessions for RC helicopter enthusiasts across the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the BLH Tail Motor Z-BLH-2012 compatible with other Blade helicopter models? — This motor is specifically designed and engineered for the Blade 120 S2 platform. While some components may have been shared across the wider Blade 120 family in earlier generations, compatibility varies and should always be verified against the specific helicopter model you own. If you operate multiple Blade helicopters, always confirm compatibility before ordering replacement parts to avoid purchasing incorrect components.
  • What should I do if my tail motor appears to be damaged or failing? — Common signs of tail motor problems include reduced tail control authority, difficulty maintaining heading during hover, or unusual noise from the tail boom area. If you experience any of these symptoms, replacement with a genuine Blade tail motor is the recommended solution. The motor is the likely culprit if the main rotor spins normally but tail control feels sluggish or unresponsive.
  • How long does a tail motor typically last on a Blade 120 S2? — With proper care and regular maintenance, a quality brushless tail motor like the one in your 120 S2 should provide many hours of reliable operation. Lifespan depends heavily on flying frequency, landing technique, and environmental factors. Occasional pilots may see their original motor last years, while those flying multiple times weekly should consider keeping a spare on hand as part of their regular maintenance inventory.
  • Can I upgrade to a different tail motor on my 120 S2? — The 120 S2 is calibrated and balanced around the specific motor that Blade engineered for this platform. Using non-standard motors may result in control issues, frame damage, or unsafe flight characteristics. Always use genuine Blade replacement components for your 120 S2 to maintain the helicopter's exceptional balance and control responsiveness that makes it such a popular choice for UK RC helicopter enthusiasts.
  • Where can I find detailed installation instructions for replacing the tail motor? — RC Model Shop stocks the full Blade 120 S2 instruction manual, which includes an interactive exploded view diagram and step-by-step guidance for all common maintenance and replacement procedures. Our team can also provide technical advice if you have specific questions about the replacement process for your helicopter.
