Overview

The Axial Radio Box Set, V2 for the SCX10 III Base Camp is an essential spare part for RC enthusiasts running the legendary SCX10 platform. For more than a decade, the Axial SCX10 has been the staple vehicle platform for radio control scale trail adventurers around the world, and this radio box set ensures your crawler remains race-ready and compatible with your transmitter system. Whether you're a seasoned RC crawler competitor or discovering the world of off-road RC cars UK for the first time, maintaining proper radio system components is crucial for reliable performance on the trails.

Engineered for heavy-duty performance in off-road conditions, the SCX10 III Base Camp meets the demands of RC scale trailing miles from home where you need reliability the most. This radio box set V2 is designed specifically to work seamlessly with your Base Camp model, ensuring that your steering servo and radio receiver are properly housed and protected during demanding trail runs. The SCX10 platform has proven itself as the first choice of radio control rig for scale trailing and adventuring, and having quality spare components like this radio box ensures your ready to run RC experience remains uninterrupted.

The radio box is a critical component that protects your receiver and allows proper mounting of your steering servo within the chassis. The SCX10 platform steering servo is mounted in the chassis, just as a full-size vehicle has its steering box located on the frame, making this component essential for maintaining authentic scale proportions and reliable operation. This V2 version represents refinements made to the SCX10 III platform, incorporating lessons learned from years of trail use and customer feedback.

Key Features

  • Purpose-designed for SCX10 III Base Camp — This radio box set is specifically engineered to fit the SCX10 III Base Camp model, ensuring perfect compatibility and proper fitment without modification.
  • Protects critical radio components — The radio box houses your receiver and steering servo, protecting these essential components from dirt, debris and damage during off-road operation on rocky terrain and challenging trail conditions.
  • Authentic scale mounting design — Like a full-size vehicle that has its steering box located on the frame, the SCX10 platform steering servo is mounted in the chassis using this radio box, maintaining realistic proportions and proper weight distribution.
  • V2 specification refinements — This V2 version incorporates design improvements made to the SCX10 III platform based on years of real-world trail experience and customer feedback for enhanced durability and ease of installation.
  • Supports simplified maintenance — The SCX10's simplified design makes maintenance and assembly quick and easy, and having quality spare radio boxes on hand ensures you can quickly replace components and get back on the trail.
  • Compatible with proven platform — The SCX10 platform has proven track record of durability, adjustability, and reliable performance on the trails, making it the recognised choice for scale trailing enthusiasts across the UK and worldwide.

Technical Performance

The radio box set is built to the same high engineering standards as the entire SCX10 III platform, which is engineered with a realistic, high strength C-channel chassis frame made of durable steel, reinforced with cross bracing for rigidity and held together with all hex hardware. This radio box component is essential for housing your receiver and steering servo safely within the chassis while maintaining the authentic scale appearance that SCX10 enthusiasts demand. The SCX10 platform steering servo is mounted in the chassis in the same manner as a full-size vehicle has its steering box located on the frame, and this radio box facilitates that critical mounting point. The component supports the platform's optimised front suspension geometry designed to reduce bump steer, and works in conjunction with the rear 4-link suspension that reduces torque twist. When properly installed, this radio box allows your steering servo to function smoothly whilst maintaining the precise weight distribution and handling characteristics that have made the SCX10 platform famous among scale crawler enthusiasts. The V2 specification refinements ensure compatibility with the latest generation of radio receivers and servo technologies, whilst maintaining backward compatibility with proven components from earlier builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Axial Radio Box Set V2 compatible with my SCX10 III Base Camp? — Yes, this radio box set is specifically designed and engineered for the SCX10 III Base Camp model. It is essential to ensure you have the correct radio box set for your specific SCX10 variant, as different models may have slightly different mounting requirements.
  • What does a radio box actually do on an RC crawler? — The radio box is a protective enclosure that houses your receiver and typically facilitates the mounting of your steering servo within the chassis. It protects these critical radio control components from dirt, debris, water ingress and physical damage whilst you're running your RC car on challenging terrain. This is particularly important for ready to run RC vehicles like the Base Camp, which may encounter rocky terrain, water crossings and other demanding conditions.
  • Why would I need a replacement radio box set? — Radio boxes can crack, break or become damaged from impacts during trail running, or the mounting points may become stripped from repeated servo movement. Having a spare radio box set on hand ensures you can quickly replace a damaged component and get back on the trail without lengthy downtime. This is especially valuable for those running their RC crawler regularly at scale trailing events or on long trail adventures.
  • Do I need any other components to install this? — The radio box set includes all necessary mounting hardware and fasteners for installation. You will need your existing receiver and steering servo (assuming yours are still functional), plus basic tools such as hex keys/Allen wrenches to complete the installation. The SCX10 platform is designed for simplified maintenance and assembly, so installation should be straightforward for those with basic RC mechanical experience.
  • How does the SCX10 III Base Camp radio setup compare to other SCX10 models? — All SCX10 models use the same fundamental radio box and steering servo mounting philosophy, with the steering servo mounted in the chassis just like a full-size vehicle. The Base Camp version uses this standard radio box setup as part of its complete platform, which includes the proven AX10 transmission, adjustable oil-filled coilover shocks, and WB8 HD Wildboar driveshafts that allow for a range of gearing choices and performance tuning.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a spare parts component rather than a complete vehicle, so it is most suitable for those who already own an SCX10 III Base Camp and have some experience with RC mechanical work. However, the SCX10 platform as a whole is excellent for beginners due to its simplified design that makes maintenance and assembly quick and easy.
  • What is the difference between the V2 and previous versions? — The V2 specification represents refinements made to the SCX10 III platform, incorporating improvements based on years of real-world trail use and customer feedback. Whilst specific changes are not detailed in the manufacturer information, the V2 designation indicates this is the current generation specification with all the latest engineering improvements.
