Overview

The Blade 15x24x5mm Ball Bearing set (part number BLH-1704) provides three replacement bearings for maintaining smooth, efficient rotation in radio control assemblies. Whether you're an experienced RC enthusiast running competitive models or a casual hobbyist maintaining your RC car UK collection, these precision ball bearings are essential consumables for any RC workshop. The 15x24x5mm size is a common dimension across RC drivetrains and rotating components, making this set a practical choice for routine maintenance or keeping spares on hand.

Ball bearings are critical components in any RC vehicle, as they enable smooth rotation of axles, shafts and other moving parts whilst minimising friction and wear. Over time, bearings can accumulate dirt, sand and moisture from regular use, especially in outdoor RC bashers and competition vehicles. By maintaining a stock of replacement bearings like the BLH-1704, you can quickly restore your RC model to peak performance without extended downtime. This three-pack ensures you have spare bearings available for multiple repairs or for servicing several models simultaneously, making it an economical choice for serious RC enthusiasts.

Ready to run RC vehicles and high-performance models depend on quality bearings to deliver the speed, responsiveness and durability that drivers demand. The Blade brand is recognised across the RC hobby for producing reliable replacement parts that meet OEM specifications. Use these bearings to replace like-for-like parts where 15x24x5mm is specified, and you'll maintain the factory performance characteristics of your RC model. Whether you're preparing for a racing event or simply performing routine preventative maintenance on your brushless RC car, these replacement bearings are an indispensable addition to your RC toolbox.

Key Features

  • 15x24x5mm Standard Size — This dimension is a common specification across RC drivetrains and rotating components, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of RC models, from entry-level vehicles to competition-grade machines. The standardised size means you can keep these bearings in stock as universal replacements rather than hunting for obscure part numbers.
  • Three-Piece Set — The pack contains three individual ball bearings, giving you the flexibility to repair multiple components in a single vehicle or service several different RC models without needing to purchase additional sets. This three-pack format represents better value than single-bearing purchases.
  • Precision Ball Bearing Construction — These are quality ball bearings rather than cheaper bushing alternatives, meaning they provide superior rotational efficiency, lower friction and extended operational life. Precision bearings maintain their tolerances much better than bushings, which gradually wear and create play in rotating assemblies.
  • Brand Authenticity — Manufactured by Blade, a trusted name in RC components and spare parts, ensuring that you're installing parts designed to match your vehicle's original specifications and performance standards. Genuine Blade parts maintain the integrity of your RC investment.
  • Easy Replacement — These bearings are designed as direct replacements for worn or damaged originals, allowing straightforward maintenance without modification or specialist tools. Any RC enthusiast with basic mechanical knowledge can perform a bearing swap in minutes.
  • Performance and Longevity — Correct installation and regular cleaning of these bearings can help maintain performance and longevity of your RC drivetrain, reducing unnecessary wear on other components and extending the overall lifespan of your model. Well-maintained bearings mean your RC vehicle runs smoother and faster for longer.

Technical Performance

Ball bearings are fundamental to RC vehicle performance, and understanding their role is crucial for anyone serious about their RC hobby. The 15x24x5mm dimensions represent a widely-used bearing size in the RC industry, found in main shaft applications, differential carriers, and various drivetrain components across different vehicle types and scales. Unlike bushings or plain bearings which rely on sliding friction, precision ball bearings use rolling contact between hardened steel balls and races, dramatically reducing friction and heat generation. This engineering approach means more of your motor's power is transmitted to the wheels rather than being wasted as heat in the drivetrain. For brushless RC cars and high-performance models, this efficiency difference is measurable in lap times and battery runtime. The ball bearing design also provides superior load distribution across the three-point contact of each ball, allowing these components to handle the lateral and radial forces generated during aggressive driving, high-speed cornering, and competitive racing. Over time, exposure to dirt, moisture, and the abrasive effects of sand and clay racing tracks can degrade bearing performance. Bearings may develop play (looseness) or increased friction as their internal races wear. By maintaining a stock of replacement bearings like the BLH-1704 and replacing them preventatively, you ensure your RC vehicle continues to deliver the smooth, responsive handling and maximum speed that proper engineering demands. Regular cleaning and lubrication of bearings between replacements will further extend their service life.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which RC models use 15x24x5mm ball bearings? — The 15x24x5mm bearing size is a common dimension across RC drivetrains and is found in various RC models from different manufacturers. If you're unsure whether these bearings fit your specific vehicle, check your model's parts diagram or manual for the bearing specification. When ordering replacement bearings for your RC car UK, always verify the exact dimensions required to ensure compatibility.
  • How often should I replace ball bearings in my RC vehicle? — The service life of ball bearings depends on how frequently you use your RC model, the conditions you drive in, and how well you maintain them. Bearings used in high-speed racing or extreme bashers will wear faster than those in casual-use vehicles. Regular inspection during maintenance is recommended; if you notice increased play, grinding sounds, or unusual resistance when spinning the axles by hand, it's time for replacement. Keeping spare bearings on hand means you can make the swap immediately rather than waiting for parts to arrive.
  • Can I reuse old bearings or do they need replacing? — Once ball bearings are contaminated with dirt or moisture, or if their internal races show visible wear, they should be replaced rather than cleaned and reused. Damaged bearings may appear to work temporarily but will cause increased friction, heat, and eventual failure. It's far better to install fresh bearings and maintain proper drivetrain performance. The small cost of replacement bearings is negligible compared to the risk of bearing failure causing damage to other drivetrain components.
  • What is the difference between ball bearings and bushings? — Ball bearings use rolling steel balls between hardened races to support rotating shafts, whilst bushings are simple sleeve bearings that rely on sliding contact. Ball bearings provide lower friction, cooler operation, and longer service life, making them superior for performance RC models. Most modern RC vehicles use ball bearings in critical applications, though some budget models may use bushings to reduce cost. When replacing worn bushings with ball bearings of the correct size, you'll immediately notice improved performance and smoother operation.
  • Do these bearings require any special installation tools? — These bearings are designed as direct replacements and generally require only a small rubber mallet or bearing puller to remove worn bearings and install new ones. You'll need to support the shaft or housing properly to avoid damage during removal and installation. Most RC enthusiasts have the basic tools required; if you're uncertain about the process, your local RC hobby shop can advise on the best approach for your specific model.
