Overview
The Spektrum Firma 3662 4700Kv 4-Pole Sensored Brushless Motor is a precision-engineered powerplant designed for demanding RC applications where control and performance matter. This high-quality brushless motor delivers exceptional acceleration and smooth power delivery, making it an ideal choice for 1/10th scale RC vehicles including monster trucks, crawlers, and other platform builds. Whether you're looking to upgrade an existing setup or build a complete new RC car from scratch, this sensored brushless motor provides the reliability and performance that serious RC enthusiasts demand across the UK and beyond.
What sets this motor apart is its advanced sensored design, which allows for incredibly precise throttle control at any speed and any angle. Unlike non-sensored alternatives, the sensor feedback to your electronic speed control means you get a direct, 1-to-1 relationship between your transmitter input and the motor's actual RPM output. This translates to better traction control, more predictable handling characteristics, and superior drivability whether you're bashing in the garden or competing at your local track. The Firma 3662 is particularly popular for Losi 1/10th scale models and integrates seamlessly with Spektrum Smart ESC systems.
Built with serious durability in mind, this motor features a low-cog 4-pole 8-magnet rotor design with CNC-machined aluminium housing and precision bearings for smooth, efficient rotation. The insulated high-purity copper windings ensure maximum energy transfer while minimising heat generation. The hardened steel 5mm output shaft is designed to withstand the demands of serious driving, making this a motor that will last season after season of reliable performance.
Key Features
- Sensored Design with Precision Control — The integrated magnetic encoder and rotor position sensor work together to provide feedback to your ESC, enabling exceptional throttle response and control at all speeds, which is essential for maintaining traction and predictable handling in any driving condition.
- 4-Pole 8-Magnet Rotor Configuration — This low-cog design delivers smooth acceleration curves and reduced cogging, resulting in more linear power delivery and better overall drivability compared to higher pole-count motors.
- CNC-Machined Aluminium Housing — The precision-manufactured aluminium case provides excellent heat dissipation and structural rigidity, ensuring the motor maintains peak performance even during extended running sessions.
- High-Purity Copper Windings — Insulated with premium materials, these windings minimise electrical losses and deliver maximum efficiency, allowing you to get the most from your battery charge and reduce heat generation during use.
- Hardened Steel 5mm Output Shaft — The durable shaft is specifically engineered to handle high torque loads without flex or failure, providing reliable power transmission to your vehicle's drivetrain.
- Precision Ball Bearings — High-quality bearings ensure smooth, frictionless rotation and extend the motor's service life through reduced wear and tear during normal operation.
- 2S LiPo Compatible — This motor is optimised for 2-cell LiPo battery systems, making it perfect for compact RC setups and lightweight vehicles that require efficient power management.
- Spektrum Smart Ecosystem Compatible — When paired with a Spektrum Firma Smart ESC, you unlock advanced telemetry features including real-time RPM monitoring, temperature tracking, and battery voltage feedback transmitted directly to your transmitter.
- Highly Efficient Design — The combination of quality components and precision engineering means less wasted energy as heat and more power going to your wheels, extending battery runtime and reducing thermal stress on all drivetrain components.
Technical Performance
The Spektrum Firma 3662 motor delivers 4700Kv of performance, meaning it will spin approximately 4700 revolutions per minute for every volt of battery input. This is a medium-speed rating that strikes an excellent balance between acceleration and top-end velocity for 1/10th scale RC vehicles. The 5mm hardened steel shaft accepts standard RC pinions and spur gears, providing flexibility for gear ratio tuning to suit your vehicle's suspension setup and intended use. Built from CNC-machined aluminium with premium insulated copper windings, this motor represents the quality engineering Spektrum is known for across the RC community. The sensored design incorporates a high-precision magnetic encoder that continuously monitors rotor position, feeding this data to your ESC 1000 times per second for lag-free throttle response. The combination of quality ball bearings, hardened steel shaft, and robust housing construction means this motor will deliver consistent performance season after season, whether you're running on carpet, asphalt, or outdoor terrain. Compatibility with 2S LiPo batteries makes it ideal for lighter 1/10th scale applications including crawlers, trail trucks, and short-course vehicles. The highly efficient design minimises power loss as heat, allowing longer running times from your battery pack and reducing thermal stress on all drivetrain components. This motor has been tested and validated by Spektrum engineers to work flawlessly with Spektrum Firma Smart ESCs, which use one-wire telemetry to transmit real-time performance data to compatible Spektrum radios.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the advantage of a sensored brushless motor for RC cars? — Sensored motors like this Firma 3662 use a magnetic encoder to monitor rotor position and relay this information to your ESC thousands of times per second. This allows the ESC to match throttle input directly to the motor's actual RPM, providing silky-smooth acceleration, precise speed control at low speeds, and better traction management. You'll notice the difference immediately when driving — the motor responds exactly as you command it without lag or cogging, even when driving slowly through technical sections or performing tight manoeuvres.
- Is the Spektrum Firma 3662 suitable for beginners? — Yes, absolutely. While this is a high-quality sensored motor, it's not overly complicated to install or use. The 5mm shaft is a standard size accepted by virtually all 1/10th scale RC platforms, and when paired with a Spektrum Smart ESC, programming is straightforward through button controls or the free SmartLink app. Beginners will benefit from the smooth, predictable power delivery that sensored motors provide.
- What battery does the Firma 3662 motor need? — This motor is optimised for 2S LiPo batteries (7.4V nominal). A typical suitable battery might be a Spektrum Smart LiPo in capacities ranging from 4000mAh to 6300mAh, though any quality 2S LiPo from a reputable manufacturer will work. Using 3S or higher voltage batteries is not recommended as they may damage the motor and ESC.
- What vehicles is this motor suitable for? — The Firma 3662 is particularly well-suited to 1/10th scale platforms including monster trucks, trail trucks, crawlers, and short-course vehicles. It's especially popular for Losi 1/10th models and integrates seamlessly with Spektrum electronics. The 4700Kv rating and 5mm shaft make it compatible with most standard 1/10th scale drive systems.
- How do I programme the Firma 3662 with my ESC? — Programming depends on which ESC you pair it with. If you're using a Spektrum Firma Smart ESC, you have three options: simple button programming on the ESC itself, use of the dedicated Firma Smart ESC Programming Box for more detailed adjustment, or the free SmartLink USB app on your computer or mobile device. All three methods are equally effective; choose whichever you find most convenient.
- Can I use this motor with non-Spektrum ESCs? — Yes, the Firma 3662 will work with any quality brushless ESC that accepts a sensored motor input and has a 5mm shaft bore. However, you'll get the full benefit of the sensored design and telemetry features only when paired with a Spektrum Firma Smart ESC. Non-Spektrum ESCs will still allow you to use the sensored functionality but without the telemetry advantages.
- What makes this better than the 4500Kv version? — The Firma 3662 with its 4700Kv rating spins slightly faster than the 4500Kv variant, providing slightly more top speed at the trade-off of slightly lower torque. Choose the 4700Kv if you prioritise speed; choose the 4500Kv if you want maximum acceleration and climbing power. Both are excellent motors; the choice depends on your driving style and terrain.
- Is the Firma 3662 waterproof? — The motor itself is not fully waterproof, though it can tolerate light moisture and damp conditions typical of outdoor RC use. However, you should avoid submerging the motor in water or running through deep water crossings. Always allow the motor to dry completely before running again after wet-weather use.
