Overview

If you own an Axial SCX24 rock crawler and want to dramatically improve its climbing ability and overall performance, the RC Overhaul High Torque Motor with Pinion and Motor Plate (G-RCO-AX016M) is the essential upgrade you've been looking for. This 66-turn brushed motor is specifically engineered to deliver significantly more torque than standard motors, allowing your SCX24 to conquer steeper inclines and negotiate tricky obstacles with confidence. Whether you're tackling challenging terrain in your garden, exploring rocky outcrops, or simply want your RC car UK hobby to reach new heights of capability, this motor transforms your SCX24 into a genuine climbing machine that punches well above its weight class.

RC Overhaul has designed this upgrade with reliability and durability at its core. The motor comes complete with a pre-fitted metal pinion gear instead of the standard plastic alternative, meaning you get enhanced durability and longevity when the motor is under heavy load. Included in the package is a distinctive red anodised motor plate that's specifically engineered to work with this 66T motor. This isn't just aesthetic bling—the motor plate serves a critical functional purpose by helping to dissipate heat away from the motor when it gets warm during extended running sessions, thereby improving overall reliability and consistent performance. For those looking for a cost-effective way to elevate their SCX24 performance, this is an essential upgrade that delivers genuine value for money and immediately transforms how your ready to run RC crawler performs in the field.

Installation is straightforward for most users with basic mechanical knowledge, though there is one important consideration: due to the increased length of this 66T motor compared to the standard unit, you will need to make a small modification to your SCX24's battery tray to accommodate the additional length. This modification is simple and can be completed in minutes with a sharp knife by carefully removing a rectangular section of material approximately 2mm deep by 5mm high. This prevents the motor from making contact with the battery tray during operation. This is a minor trade-off for the substantial performance gains you'll experience.

Key Features

  • 66-Turn Brushed Motor — The higher turn count compared to standard SCX24 motors delivers substantially increased torque, allowing your rock crawler to tackle steeper slopes, climb over larger obstacles, and maintain traction in challenging conditions that would defeat a standard motor setup.
  • Pre-Fitted Metal Pinion Gear — Unlike the plastic pinion found on many standard motors, this metal pinion is engineered to withstand the stresses of high-load climbing and technical driving, significantly extending the lifespan of your motor and reducing the need for replacements.
  • Improved Top Speed — Beyond the torque benefits, this 66T motor also delivers a touch of extra top speed compared to higher-turn-count motors, giving you a nice balance between climbing power and responsive handling characteristics.
  • Red Anodised Motor Plate (Mount) — This precision-engineered motor plate is specifically designed for use with the 66T motor and serves dual purposes: it provides a secure, reliable mounting point for the motor, and its anodised finish helps actively dissipate heat away from the motor during extended running sessions, maintaining optimal operating temperature and improving long-term reliability.
  • Heat Dissipation Engineering — The red anodised motor plate works in conjunction with the motor to manage thermal load effectively, ensuring that even during demanding climbs or extended running sessions, your motor maintains consistent performance and reliability without overheating.
  • Cost-Effective Performance Upgrade — Priced competitively, this motor upgrade offers exceptional value for money, delivering genuine performance improvements without requiring you to purchase an entirely new vehicle or undertake expensive modifications elsewhere in your drivetrain.
  • Specifically Engineered for SCX24 Platform — This motor is optimised specifically for Axial's 1/24-scale SCX24 range, meaning it integrates seamlessly with your existing vehicle architecture and provides performance gains calibrated perfectly for this platform's weight and capability envelope.

Technical Performance

The RC Overhaul 66T brushed motor represents a significant step forward in performance for SCX24 rock crawler enthusiasts across the UK. This micro-scale brushed motor delivers enhanced electrical performance through its 66-turn configuration, which is specifically calculated to provide the optimal balance between torque delivery and top-end speed for technical rock crawling applications. The brushed motor technology offers smooth, predictable power delivery that translates directly to better control and precision when negotiating complex terrain. The pre-fitted metal pinion gear is a critical engineering choice—metal construction withstands repetitive high-load impacts far better than plastic gears, ensuring your motor investment remains reliable through countless climbing sessions. The included red anodised motor plate is engineered from aluminium and machined to precise tolerances to ensure perfect alignment and secure mounting. Its anodised finish provides both aesthetic appeal and functional thermal management capabilities, actively drawing heat away from the motor windings during operation. This engineering approach ensures that whether you're running hour-long sessions at the local RC club or enjoying quick bashing sessions in your back garden, your motor maintains consistent performance characteristics without thermal throttling or reliability concerns.

Installation Note

The increased length of this 66T motor compared to the standard SCX24 motor means you'll need to make a small modification to your vehicle's battery tray before installation. Using a sharp knife or small cutting tool, carefully remove a rectangular section of material measuring approximately 2mm deep by 5mm high from the battery tray. This small cut prevents the motor from making contact with the tray during operation. The modification is straightforward and can be completed in just a few minutes—many users find it simpler than expected, and the performance transformation makes it absolutely worth the minimal effort required.
