Overview
The RC Overhaul Centre Drive Shaft in red aluminium is a precision-engineered upgrade component designed specifically for owners of the ARRMA 1/8 Mojave 4X4 4S BLX Desert Truck. Whether you're a seasoned RC enthusiast running a competitive build or a dedicated basher looking to enhance your off-road RC truck's durability and aesthetics, this machined centre shaft offers a significant performance upgrade over the standard plastic component. The red aluminium finish perfectly complements the chassis torsion bar, creating a cohesive and professional appearance whilst delivering the robust metal construction that serious RC car UK drivers demand.
Upgrading your RC Mojave with quality aftermarket components is essential for maintaining peak performance in demanding conditions. This centre drive shaft represents the kind of precision upgrade that separates weekend bashers from serious enthusiasts. The spring-loaded design ensures smooth power transfer through the drivetrain, reducing wear on your gearbox and transmission system. Whether you're tackling desert terrain, rocky trails, or high-speed runs, having a reliable metal drive shaft is crucial to keeping your brushless RC truck performing at its best.
The RC Overhaul Centre Drive Shaft is not just a functional replacement—it's a statement of commitment to quality. The precision-machined construction demonstrates attention to detail that RC hobbyists recognise and appreciate. This is the kind of component that experienced RC model enthusiasts invest in because they understand that small upgrades compound into dramatically improved overall performance and longevity.
Key Features
- Precision-Machined Red Aluminium Construction — This centre shaft is crafted from high-quality red aluminium, machined to exacting tolerances to ensure perfect fitment and reliable performance within your ARRMA Mojave's transmission system. The precision machining process guarantees consistency and durability that mass-produced plastic components simply cannot match, providing the foundation for reliable power delivery under extreme driving conditions.
- Spring-Loaded Design — The spring-loaded mechanism absorbs shock loads and vibration from aggressive driving, protecting the rest of your drivetrain from sudden impacts and stress. This design feature is particularly valuable when bashing over rough terrain or landing jumps, as it reduces the risk of catastrophic gearbox damage and extends component lifespan significantly.
- Direct Replacement for Stock Plastic Shaft — This upgrade directly replaces the standard plastic shaft (part number ARA311170) that comes factory-fitted to the ARRMA Mojave 4S. The easy installation process means you can perform this upgrade in minutes without requiring specialist tools or technical expertise, making it an ideal first upgrade for owners looking to strengthen their drive train.
- Red Anodised Finish for Aesthetic Cohesion — The vibrant red anodised aluminium finish matches the red torsion bar on your Mojave chassis, creating a visually integrated appearance that looks professional and purposeful. Beyond aesthetics, the anodised coating provides corrosion resistance and protects the aluminium from oxidation during outdoor use and storage.
- Enhanced Durability Over Standard Plastic — Aluminium offers substantially greater strength-to-weight ratio compared to the plastic component it replaces, meaning your centre shaft will withstand greater torque loads, impacts, and stress without deformation or failure. This durability improvement directly translates to fewer breakages and more time enjoying your RC Mojave rather than making repairs.
- Improved Power Transmission Efficiency — The rigid metal construction minimises flex and deflection during power transfer, ensuring that maximum torque from your brushless motor reaches the wheels efficiently. This results in improved acceleration response and more predictable handling characteristics, particularly noticeable in competitive or technical driving scenarios.
Technical Performance
The RC Overhaul Centre Drive Shaft represents a significant engineering upgrade for owners of the ARRMA 1/8 Mojave 4X4 4S BLX Desert Truck. Constructed from precision-machined aluminium rather than standard plastic, this component delivers measurable improvements in durability, power transmission efficiency, and overall drivetrain reliability. The spring-loaded design incorporates a suspension mechanism that absorbs impact loads during aggressive driving, protecting sensitive gearbox components from shock stress that could otherwise cause premature wear or catastrophic failure. The red anodised finish provides both aesthetic integration with the chassis torsion bar and practical corrosion resistance that ensures long-term performance in outdoor conditions. For UK RC enthusiasts running brushless 4S setups, this centre shaft becomes increasingly valuable as you increase the power and aggression of your driving style. The aluminium construction maintains structural integrity under the sustained torque loads generated by modern brushless motors, a critical consideration when driving high-performance RC trucks. The precision machining ensures perfect concentricity and balance, eliminating vibration that could otherwise compromise handling precision. This is the kind of component that experienced RC model enthusiasts recognise as essential for building a reliable, long-lasting off-road truck that performs consistently across varied terrain and driving conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this centre drive shaft compatible with my ARRMA Mojave 4S? — Yes, the RC Overhaul Centre Drive Shaft (model G-RCO-AR018R) is specifically designed for the ARRMA 1/8 Mojave 4X4 4S BLX Desert Truck in both Blue and White colour variants. It directly replaces the standard plastic shaft (part number ARA311170) with a precision-machined aluminium upgrade.
- What is the advantage of upgrading from the plastic centre shaft to aluminium? — The plastic shaft that comes factory on the Mojave is adequate for casual driving, but upgrading to this precision-machined aluminium centre shaft dramatically improves durability under aggressive driving conditions. Aluminium provides superior strength, better power transmission efficiency, and resistance to deformation from high torque loads generated by brushless motors. The spring-loaded design also absorbs impact shock more effectively than rigid plastic.
- Will this upgrade improve my lap times or performance? — While the primary benefit is durability and reliability, the rigid aluminium construction does improve power transmission efficiency and reduces drivetrain flex, which can result in more responsive acceleration and more predictable handling characteristics during competitive driving. You'll notice the difference particularly when pushing hard over rough terrain or executing aggressive manoeuvres.
- How difficult is it to install this centre drive shaft? — Installation is straightforward and suitable for most RC enthusiasts. The spring-loaded design means it's a direct drop-in replacement for the standard plastic shaft, requiring only basic tools and minimal mechanical knowledge. Most users can complete the installation within 5-10 minutes without requiring specialist equipment.
- Can I use this with upgraded brushless motors and ESCs? — Yes, this aluminium centre shaft is specifically engineered to handle the increased torque demands of brushless motor setups. If you're running a higher-power 4S brushless configuration in your Mojave, upgrading to this metal centre shaft is highly recommended to protect your transmission.
- Why is the red colour important? — Beyond the aesthetic appeal of matching your red torsion bar, the red anodised finish provides a protective oxide layer that prevents corrosion and oxidation. This is particularly important in the UK where outdoor conditions can expose bare aluminium to moisture and salt.
- What is the spring-loaded design and why does it matter? — The spring-loaded mechanism acts as a shock absorber within the centre shaft assembly, cushioning the transmission from sudden impact loads that occur during aggressive driving, jumping, or rough terrain bashing. This feature significantly extends the lifespan of your gearbox and other drivetrain components by distributing shock loads gradually rather than allowing them to impact gear teeth directly.
