Overview

The Schumacher Cactus 1/10 rear tyre is a purpose-built competition tyre designed specifically for 1/10 scale off-road buggy racing on EOS style carpet surfaces. Whether you're competing in the UK RC racing circuit or practising at your local club track, these tyres deliver the precision, grip and durability that serious racers demand. The Cactus has been specially developed through extensive testing on both new and well-worn carpet to provide improved driving feel, faster lap times, and exceptional longevity compared to standard off-road tyres.

If you're serious about RC buggy racing in the UK and want a control tyre that will give you consistent performance lap after lap, the Schumacher Cactus represents an investment in competitive advantage. These tyres have earned recognition as a popular choice for 1/10th off road carpet racing, and for good reason. The engineering behind the Cactus focuses on what matters most to competitive drivers: predictable handling, reduced grip roll, and a tyre compound that maintains performance even as the surface ages.

As an official Schumacher RC racing product developed in Great Britain, these tyres bring together premium build quality and proven race performance. They come supplied as a pair, ready to be glued and fitted to your buggy chassis.

Key Features

  • EOS Carpet Racing Specification — The Cactus has been engineered specifically for EOS style carpet surfaces, ensuring optimal grip and handling characteristics on this popular racing surface used across UK clubs and competitions. This specialised design means superior performance compared to general-purpose tyres.
  • High Density Pin Pattern — The tyre features a high density pin pattern that provides consistent grip across both new and worn carpet surfaces, ensuring your lap times remain competitive whether you're racing on freshly laid track or surfaces that have seen plenty of use.
  • Stagger Edge Design — Famous for its effectiveness in reducing grip roll, the stagger edge design keeps your buggy planted through corners and transitions, improving driver confidence and allowing you to push harder on the track.
  • Long Life Construction — The compound and structure are designed for extended durability, meaning you'll get more laps from each set compared to standard tyres, ultimately reducing your racing costs while maintaining consistent performance.
  • Improved Driving Feel — Racers report a more responsive, predictable feel when driving on Cactus tyres, allowing for better throttle control and more precise line work on carpet surfaces.
  • Faster Lap Times — Through extensive testing and development, the Cactus delivers measurably faster lap times on EOS carpet, giving you a genuine performance advantage in competitive situations.
  • 2.2 Inch Rear Size — This rear tyre option comes in the standard 2.2 inch size for 1/10 buggy racing, ensuring compatibility with traditional race buggies and standard wheel packages used throughout the UK RC racing community.
  • Pair Pack Included — You receive two tyres in this package, providing one complete set for your rear axle, though you may want to purchase multiple packs to have fresh tyres ready for race weekends.

Technical Performance

The Schumacher Cactus represents serious engineering focused on competitive 1/10 scale off-road carpet racing. Built to the exacting standards expected in control tyre specifications, the Cactus delivers the performance attributes that experienced racers look for: consistent grip across different carpet conditions, minimal grip roll through corners, and a compound that maintains its characteristics throughout extended running sessions. The high density pin pattern has been carefully engineered to work across both new carpet and surfaces that have accumulated significant wear, meaning you can practise and compete at different venues without worrying about tyre characteristics changing dramatically. The stagger edge design is a proven feature that minimises unwanted grip roll, keeping your buggy stable during aggressive cornering and weight transfers. The overall construction emphasises durability without compromising the responsive handling feel that competitive drivers need, making this an excellent choice for anyone serious about improving their lap times and consistency on EOS style carpet tracks. As a product manufactured in Great Britain, the Cactus meets rigorous quality standards and has been extensively tested under real racing conditions.

What You Need to Complete

  • Wheel rims suitable for 2.2 inch buggy tyres
  • RC-specific tyre cleaner or degreasing spray (to remove mould release agent before gluing)
  • Cyanoacrylate tyre glue (such as thin viscosity specialist RC tyre adhesive)
  • Foam tyre inserts (medium density recommended for rear tyres)
  • Clean cloth or paper towels for tyre preparation

Tyre Preparation and Gluing Guide

Proper tyre preparation is essential for ensuring your Cactus tyres remain securely glued to your wheels during racing. During the manufacturing process, tyres are coated with a mould release agent to help remove them from the production moulds. If this residue is not removed, it can significantly reduce glue adhesion and lead to tyres lifting or coming unglued under load during races, which is dangerous and costly.

Preparation Steps:

  • Clean the Tyre Bead Thoroughly — Before applying any glue, always clean the tyre bead (the inner edge that contacts the wheel rim) and wheel rim with an RC-specific tyre cleaner or degreasing spray. Spray the cleaner onto a clean cloth or paper towel and thoroughly wipe the tyre bead area, removing all oils, mould release residue, dirt, and grease.
  • Allow Full Evaporation — After cleaning, allow the cleaner to fully evaporate before proceeding with gluing. This typically takes a few minutes depending on the product used.
  • Avoid Skin Contact — Do not touch the cleaned bead surface with your fingers after cleaning, as natural oils from your skin can affect adhesion and undo your preparation work.
  • Apply Glue Carefully — Use a cyanoacrylate tyre glue designed specifically for RC tyres, applying a thin, even bead around the tyre bead contact area. Avoid over-application, which can create excess glue.
  • Allow Cure Time — Follow the specific curing instructions for your chosen glue product, ensuring the adhesive has fully set before running your buggy.

Taking a few extra minutes to properly prepare your Cactus tyres will help create a stronger bond between tyre and wheel, significantly reduce the risk of tyre failures during racing, and improve overall reliability on the track. This preparation time is time well spent for any serious competitor.

Why is Tyre Preparation Important for 1/10 RC Racing?

Many drivers neglect proper tyre preparation, believing they can rush through the gluing process. However, tyre failure during a race is not only frustrating but potentially dangerous to your RC buggy and others at the track. The mould release agent coating on new tyres is specifically designed to allow tyres to be extracted from manufacturing moulds easily, but this same coating actively prevents glue adhesion. Skipping the cleaning step is a false economy that frequently results in tyres coming loose within the first few laps of racing. By contrast, taking time to clean your Cactus tyres properly before gluing ensures a bond that will hold up to the demands of competitive racing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are the Schumacher Cactus tyres suitable for both new and worn carpet tracks? — Yes, the Cactus has been extensively tested on both new and well-worn carpet surfaces and is specifically designed to maintain consistent grip and performance characteristics across different carpet conditions. This makes them ideal if you race at multiple venues with different track ages.
  • What is the difference between the Cactus rear tyre and the Cactus front tyre? — Schumacher offers the Cactus in both rear (2.2 inch) and 4WD front (also available separately) configurations. The rear tyre is optimised for the specific grip and wear characteristics needed at the rear axle of a 1/10 buggy, whilst the front tyre is engineered for the different loading and handling requirements of the front axle in 4WD buggies.
  • Why do I need to clean my tyres before gluing them? — New RC tyres are coated with mould release agent that prevents glue adhesion. If you don't clean this off before gluing, your tyres are likely to come unglued during racing, potentially causing crashes and damage. Proper cleaning takes just a few minutes and is essential for race reliability.
  • What is grip roll and why is the stagger edge design important? — Grip roll occurs when a tyre's grip level changes suddenly at the tyre edge during cornering, causing unpredictable handling. The Cactus stagger edge design minimises this effect, keeping your buggy more stable and predictable through corners, which translates to faster, more confident driving.
  • How many tyres do I need to purchase? — This package contains one pair (two tyres) for your rear axle. Many racers purchase multiple pairs to have fresh tyres ready for race weekends and to allow for tyre rotation and maintenance.
  • What wheel size do the Cactus rear tyres fit? — The Cactus rear tyres are designed for standard 2.2 inch wheel rims used on 1/10 scale off-road buggies. Confirm your wheel rim size before purchasing to ensure compatibility.
  • Are these tyres available in other colours? — The Cactus range is available in multiple colours including yellow (as in this listing). Check the Schumacher product range for other colour options if you prefer a different appearance.
  • What is the manufacturing origin of the Cactus tyres? — The Schumacher Cactus is proudly manufactured in Great Britain, meeting rigorous quality standards and benefiting from decades of racing expertise.
