- Extended 162mm Wheelbase — Steel frame rails extend the wheelbase to precisely capture real-world pickup truck proportions, which translates directly into greater climbing stability, smoother rides over rough terrain, and superior obstacle negotiation compared to shorter-wheelbase crawlers.
- Detailed Clipless Body with Chrome Trim — The tough ABS hard body features molded-in black colour with highly detailed chrome trim for complete scale authenticity, whilst the hidden latching system holds tight during aggressive crawling but releases in seconds for quick body access and maintenance.
- Waterproof Electronics and Sealed Servo — The ECM-2.5 control module and #2065T heavy duty waterproof servo ensure reliable operation in wet conditions, stream crossings and challenging outdoor environments where moisture exposure is inevitable during serious trail work.
- Ready-to-Run with Everything Included — This complete RTR package includes the TQ 2.4GHz 2-channel transmitter, Titan 180 87-turn brushed motor, ECM-2.5 combo ESC and receiver, 7.4 volt 750mAh 2-cell LiPo battery, 2-amp USB fast charger with iD technology, and high-quality maintenance tools—you only need four AA batteries for the transmitter to begin crawling.
- Fully Locked Differentials with 2:1 Axle Ratio — Both front and rear differentials are fully locked, providing maximum traction when needed, whilst the 2:1 axle ratio is specifically tuned for crawling performance and obstacle climbing rather than high-speed running.
- Precise Approach, Breakover and Departure Angles — With a 62° approach angle, 51.5° breakover angle and 52° departure angle, this crawler is engineered for technical terrain with excellent obstacle clearance and minimal hang-up risk on rocks, logs and challenging natural obstacles.
- Shaft-Driven 4WD System — The complete 4WD system ensures power is distributed to all four wheels simultaneously, providing maximum traction for technical climbing and reliable power delivery across varied terrain types without the complexity of cable-driven alternatives.
- Skill Level 1 - Perfect for Beginners — Despite its authentic scale appearance and impressive performance credentials, Traxxas rates this model as Skill Level 1, meaning beginners can operate it immediately whilst experienced crawlers appreciate its genuine engineering and capability.
Technical Performance
The TRX-4M High Trail Edition combines genuine engineering excellence with accessible performance specifications that appeal to both newcomers to RC crawling and experienced enthusiasts. At just 1:18 scale, this compact trail crawler measures 269mm in length, 127mm in width and 127mm in height, making it perfect for indoor environments whilst retaining enough size for realistic detail and genuine outdoor crawling. The lightweight construction at 468 grams (including battery) means responsive handling and reduced stress on the drive system during extended trail sessions. The Titan 180 87-turn brushed motor paired with the ECM-2.5 electronic control module provides reliable, easy-to-maintain power delivery specifically tuned for crawling rather than racing performance—the 87-turn configuration prioritises torque and control over raw speed. The 750mAh 2-cell 7.4 volt LiPo battery provides adequate runtime for satisfying trail sessions, whilst the included 2-amp USB fast charger with intelligent iD technology ensures safe, efficient charging. The steel ladder frame chassis with nylon composite crossmembers provides the rigidity essential for technical terrain whilst the waterproof servo maintains reliable steering in wet conditions. The 2.4GHz TQ radio system offers solid range and reliability, the axle-mounted servo provides direct steering response, and the electronic "hill hold" braking system prevents uncontrolled descent on steep slopes. Suspension consists of front and rear shocks measuring 51mm in length, whilst the front and rear track widths of 127mm provide balanced, stable handling across all terrain types. This is proper engineering focused on crawling capability rather than corner-cutting cost reduction.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is the Traxxas TRX-4M Ford F-150 High Trail Edition suitable for RC beginners? — Yes, absolutely. Traxxas rates this model as Skill Level 1, which means it is specifically designed for beginners. The complete ready-to-run package includes all electronics, the battery and charger, so you can start crawling immediately. The brushed motor is simpler to maintain than brushless alternatives, the 2-channel TQ radio is intuitive to use, and the waterproof servo and sealed electronics mean you don't need to worry about environmental damage during early learning. This is one of the best ready-to-run RC crawlers available for someone new to the hobby.
- What battery does the TRX-4M High Trail Edition use and how long does it last? — The included battery is a 7.4 volt 750mAh 2-cell LiPo (lithium polymer) battery, which is the standard format for small-scale RC vehicles. The 750mAh capacity provides satisfying runtime for typical trail sessions, though dedicated enthusiasts often purchase additional batteries to extend their crawling time. The included 2-amp USB fast charger features intelligent iD technology to protect battery health and ensure safe charging. You can charge via any standard USB power source.
- What are the key differences between the High Trail Edition and standard TRX-4M models? — The High Trail Edition features a factory-installed long arm lift kit that increases centre ground clearance by over 35%, larger 2.4 inch Mickey Thompson Baja Pro XS tyres (compared to smaller standard tyres), and an extended 162mm wheelbase (rather than the shorter standard wheelbase). These modifications create an authentic "lifted truck" appearance and dramatically improve climbing ability, ground clearance and rough terrain capability. The High Trail Edition is ideal if you want maximum off-road performance and authentic scale styling, whilst standard TRX-4M models are slightly more compact and entry-level focused.
- Is this crawler waterproof and can it handle wet conditions? — Yes, the electronics are waterproof-rated and the #2065T servo is sealed and heavy-duty, allowing operation in wet conditions and stream crossings. However, whilst waterproof, this is not the same as fully submersible—occasional water exposure during normal trail work is absolutely fine, but prolonged submersion or intentional water dunking is not recommended. The sealed servo and ECM-2.5 module mean you can confidently crawl through damp environments without fear of immediate electronic failure.
- What radio system does the TRX-4M High Trail Edition use? — The included transmitter is the Traxxas TQ 2.4GHz 2-channel radio system, which is reliable, user-friendly and offers excellent range for small-scale crawling. The 2-channel setup provides simultaneous control of steering and throttle/braking, which is perfectly adequate for trail crawling. If you already own TQ transmitters from other Traxxas models, this crawler is immediately compatible with your existing radio system.
- How detailed is the body and how realistic does it look? — The 1979 Ford F-150 body is licensed from Ford and features authentic 1979-era styling with molded-in black colour, highly detailed chrome trim including bumpers and grille, authentic badging and proportions. The clipless body system means you can remove the body in seconds using the hidden latching mechanism without tools, making battery changes and maintenance quick and convenient. The realistic proportions are enhanced by the extended 162mm wheelbase and lifted stance from the long arm lift kit, creating a genuinely scale-accurate appearance.
- What are the ground clearance and climbing angles? — The centre ground clearance is 40mm (1.57 inches), which represents a 35%+ improvement over standard TRX-4M models. The approach angle is 62°, the breakover angle is 51.5° and the departure angle is 52°, meaning this crawler can tackle steep obstacles and rocky terrain with minimal hang-up risk. These angles are excellent for a 1:18 scale model and directly translate into genuine technical capability on natural terrain.
- Does this model require assembly or is it ready to run? — This is a complete ready-to-run (RTR) model that arrives fully assembled. You simply insert four AA batteries into the transmitter, charge the included LiPo battery via USB, and you're ready to crawl. There are no complicated electronics installations, motor breaks-ins or complex assembly procedures—Traxxas has done all the work for you.
