Overview

The ARRMA Center Driveshaft Steel 145mm for SWB Chassis is an essential replacement part designed for ARRMA RC models, particularly the popular GRANITE GROM and Mini Kraton ranges. This high-quality drivetrain component is the ideal upgrade or replacement for your kit-supplied item, offering superior durability and reliable power transfer for serious RC enthusiasts across the UK. Whether you're a weekend basher enjoying some outdoor RC fun or a dedicated hobbyist pushing your machine to the limit, this centre driveshaft is engineered to withstand the demands of aggressive driving and demanding terrain.

Built with premium steel construction, this 145mm driveshaft is specifically engineered for short-wheelbase (SWB) chassis configurations, making it the perfect fit for compact RC vehicles that require precise drivetrain performance. The hex-shaped design ensures positive power transfer from the motor to the wheels, eliminating slip and maximising acceleration and responsiveness. If you own an ARRMA 1/18 GRANITE GROM or ARRMA 1/16 Mini Kraton, this is the genuine replacement part that ARRMA engineers recommend when your original driveshaft wears out or becomes damaged from intense use.

As an authorised ARRMA retailer, RC Model Shop supplies only genuine ARRMA parts backed by the manufacturer's quality standards. This centre driveshaft represents years of engineering expertise from one of the world's leading RC vehicle manufacturers, trusted by RC enthusiasts across the UK for durability, performance and reliability in the competitive and casual RC market.

Key Features

  • Steel Construction for Extreme Toughness — The driveshaft is manufactured from premium steel material, which provides exceptional strength and durability even under the most demanding driving conditions. Steel's superior hardness means it can withstand the shock loads and torque generated during high-speed acceleration, sudden deceleration, and impacts common in RC bashings and racing. Unlike weaker materials that can bend or snap under stress, this steel construction ensures your driveshaft maintains its integrity through countless hours of use, making it a reliable long-term investment for your RC car.
  • Hex Shape for Positive Power Transfer — The hexagonal profile design of this driveshaft is specifically engineered to create a secure mechanical connection between the motor transmission and the wheel hubs. The hex shape prevents slipping and rotating relative to the connected components, ensuring that every ounce of motor power is transmitted directly to the wheels without loss or hesitation. This direct power coupling means faster acceleration response, more predictable handling, and improved overall performance compared to driveshafts with weaker connection methods, which is particularly important when competing in RC racing or navigating technical terrain.
  • 145mm Length for SWB Compatibility — Precision-engineered to exactly 145mm in length, this centre driveshaft is specifically designed for short-wheelbase chassis configurations used in compact, nimble RC vehicles like the GRANITE GROM and Mini Kraton. The correct length is critical for proper drivetrain geometry and suspension alignment, affecting everything from handling characteristics to wear patterns on suspension components. Using the manufacturer-specified length ensures your RC car maintains its intended performance characteristics and longevity.
  • OEM Replacement Quality — This is a genuine ARRMA original equipment manufacturer part, not a third-party aftermarket component. OEM parts are engineered to the exact same specifications and quality standards as the original components your RC car came with, ensuring perfect fitment and reliability. By choosing an OEM replacement, you avoid compatibility issues and maintain the manufacturer's performance warranty on your vehicle.
  • Genuine ARRMA Engineering — ARRMA is one of the world's most respected RC vehicle manufacturers, with decades of experience in creating tough, reliable, fast RC cars. When you purchase an ARRMA replacement part, you're buying the result of extensive testing, validation and real-world feedback from professional RC drivers and enthusiasts worldwide. This heritage of quality means you can trust this driveshaft will perform reliably in your RC setup.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA Center Driveshaft Steel 145mm represents precision engineering in RC drivetrain components. The 145mm length is specifically calibrated for ARRMA's short-wheelbase chassis platforms, where wheelbase geometry directly impacts handling balance, traction distribution, and overall responsiveness. Steel construction in a driveshaft application is superior to plastic or composite alternatives because it resists deformation under the high torque loads generated by brushless motors (such as those found in ARRMA 1/16 Mini Kraton and brushed motors in models like the GRANITE GROM). The hex-shaped connection profile is a industry-standard design choice that provides maximum mechanical grip and zero rotational play between the motor's output shaft and the transmission input, along with the connection between the transmission output and the wheel hubs. This engineering approach eliminates power loss that would occur with looser connections and contributes significantly to the vehicle's acceleration characteristics, efficiency and overall drivetrain longevity. The material composition is specifically chosen to handle the repeated stress cycles, shock loads and torsional forces experienced during realistic RC driving, including high-speed acceleration from standstill, hard braking events, and impacts with obstacles or rough terrain. For RC enthusiasts in the UK driving these vehicles on various surfaces from concrete to grass and gravel, this driveshaft provides the durability needed for extended use without regular replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which ARRMA models is this center driveshaft compatible with? — This 145mm centre driveshaft is compatible with the ARRMA 1/18 GRANITE GROM (including the MEGA 380 brushed variant) and the ARRMA 1/16 Mini Kraton 3S brushless models. It is specifically designed for short-wheelbase chassis configurations, making it the correct replacement for these compact ARRMA vehicles. If you own either of these models, this is the genuine OEM part you need.
  • Is this a genuine ARRMA part or an aftermarket replacement? — This is a genuine ARRMA original equipment manufacturer part, manufactured to ARRMA's exact specifications and engineering standards. You can verify authenticity using the ARRMA part number ARA311183 and the supplier EAN code 5052127045742. Purchasing genuine OEM parts ensures perfect compatibility, maintains your vehicle's performance warranty, and guarantees the quality standards you expect from ARRMA.
  • What does the hex shape actually do for my RC car? — The hexagonal profile creates a mechanical lock between the driveshaft and the components it connects to (the motor transmission and wheel hubs). This prevents any slipping or rotational play that could reduce power transfer efficiency. In practical terms, this means faster acceleration response, more immediate steering reaction when the power is applied, and reduced wear on connected components because there's no micro-movement creating friction and heat.
  • How often will I need to replace this driveshaft? — With proper maintenance and normal use, a steel driveshaft like this typically lasts many months or even years. However, replacement is needed if the driveshaft becomes bent from impacts, if the hex connection points become stripped or damaged, or if you notice vibration or power loss during driving. Regular inspection during maintenance routines helps catch damage early. Many RC enthusiasts keep a spare driveshaft on hand for events or when using their RC car frequently.
  • Can I use this on other ARRMA models? — This driveshaft is specifically designed for ARRMA short-wheelbase models. ARRMA manufactures other models with different chassis configurations that use different driveshaft lengths and designs. Using the wrong length driveshaft will affect your vehicle's handling, suspension geometry, and drivetrain stress distribution, so it's important to use the correct part for your specific model. Always verify compatibility using the ARRMA model number before purchasing.
  • What's the difference between steel and plastic driveshafts? — Steel driveshafts offer significantly superior durability, resistance to deformation under high torque loads, and longevity compared to plastic alternatives. While plastic driveshafts might be lighter, they are prone to cracking, snapping under stress, and stripping their hex connections. Steel driveshafts absorb impacts better, maintain their shape longer, and require replacement far less frequently, making them the preferred choice for serious RC enthusiasts who value reliability and performance.
