Overview
The ARRMA CVD Rebuild Set (Z-ARA311181) is an essential maintenance and upgrade component for ARRMA RC vehicle owners across the UK who want to keep their drivetrain running at peak performance. Whether you're a dedicated RC enthusiast, a weekend basher, or someone who takes their RC car seriously, this rebuild set provides the critical spare parts needed to service and maintain your constant velocity differential (CVD) driveshaft system. CVD joints are crucial components in any 4WD RC vehicle, and regular maintenance ensures smooth power delivery, consistent handling, and extended component lifespan across all surfaces and conditions.
This CVD Rebuild Set is specifically engineered for ARRMA's range of small-scale RC vehicles, including the popular GROM series monster trucks and buggies. The kit contains all the essential internal components needed to fully rebuild or refresh your CVD driveshafts, restoring them to factory performance standards. If you've noticed any clicking, grinding, or performance loss in your RC car's drivetrain, or if you simply want to perform preventative maintenance on your ready to run RC vehicle, this rebuild set delivers everything you need in one convenient package.
Precision manufacturing and quality materials are hallmarks of ARRMA's reputation as a leading RC brand, and this rebuild set is no exception. The components inside are designed to work seamlessly with the existing CVD housings on your vehicle, making this an affordable way to extend the life of your RC car without needing to purchase complete new driveshafts. For anyone running an ARRMA RC model, having a CVD rebuild set on hand is smart maintenance planning.
Key Features
- Precision Manufactured Steel CVD Barrel — The CVD barrel is the rotating hub of your constant velocity joint, and precision engineering ensures it maintains smooth, consistent performance across all driving surfaces and conditions. A quality barrel prevents binding, vibration, and premature wear on other drivetrain components, delivering reliable power transfer from your motor to your wheels.
- Tough Steel CVD Pins — The CVD pins are the critical transfer elements that allow power to flow through the joint at multiple angles. Steel construction provides exceptional durability and resistance to shearing forces, ensuring your RC car maintains traction and performance even during aggressive bashing sessions or competition driving on rough terrain.
- Secure Retaining Spring — The pin retaining spring is engineered to lock the CVD pins firmly in place, preventing them from shifting or coming loose during operation. This simple but essential component ensures safety and reliability, eliminating the risk of drivetrain failure during your RC driving sessions.
- Complete Rebuild Solution — By including two barrel assemblies, two pin sets, and two retaining springs, this kit allows you to fully refresh both front and rear CVD driveshafts on your ARRMA RC vehicle, or rebuild multiple joints if needed. This comprehensive approach saves you money compared to purchasing replacement complete driveshafts.
- OEM Quality Parts — As an official ARRMA rebuild set, every component is manufactured to the same exacting standards as the parts in your original vehicle, guaranteeing perfect fitment and performance compatibility with your RC car.
Technical Performance
The CVD system (constant velocity differential) is a fundamental drivetrain technology used in modern 4WD RC vehicles to transmit power from the motor through the transmission to all four wheels whilst accommodating suspension movement and steering angles. The components in this rebuild set are manufactured from hardened steel, chosen specifically for its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio and resistance to the repetitive stresses of RC driving. The CVD barrel serves as the main rotational hub, whilst the steel pins transfer torque through the joint even when it's operating at extreme angles during sharp turns or uneven terrain navigation. The retaining spring maintains constant tension on the pins, preventing them from dislodging and ensuring smooth, noise-free operation. Regular maintenance using genuine ARRMA rebuild sets like this one helps prevent the clicking, popping, or grinding sounds that indicate worn CVD components. By replacing worn internals before they cause catastrophic failure, you can dramatically extend the service life of your complete driveshaft assemblies and maintain optimal handling characteristics. The precision engineering of these components ensures that power delivery remains linear and predictable, whether you're driving on carpet, dirt, grass, or tarmac. This rebuild set is compatible with a wide range of ARRMA GROM models across different scales and motor types, making it a versatile maintenance solution for any ARRMA RC enthusiast in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a CVD driveshaft and why does it need rebuilding? — A CVD (constant velocity) driveshaft is a sophisticated component that transmits power from your RC vehicle's motor to the wheels whilst allowing for steering angles and suspension movement. Over time, the internal pins and barrel inside the CVD joint experience wear from friction and shock loads, particularly if you regularly bash your RC car or drive on rough terrain. You'll notice this wear as clicking or grinding noises coming from the driveshaft area. A rebuild set allows you to replace the worn internal components without purchasing an entirely new driveshaft assembly, saving money whilst restoring full performance and eliminating noise.
- How difficult is it to rebuild a CVD driveshaft? — Rebuilding a CVD driveshaft is a straightforward maintenance task that most RC enthusiasts can handle with basic tools. You'll need to carefully disassemble the CVD housing, remove the old pins and barrel, clean out any debris, and reassemble with the new components from this kit. Many YouTube tutorials and online RC guides show step-by-step rebuilding procedures. If you're not confident doing it yourself, any local RC hobby shop in the UK should be able to perform the rebuild for a modest labour charge.
- Can I use this rebuild set on other ARRMA vehicles besides GROM models? — This rebuild set is specifically designed for ARRMA GROM series vehicles across the 1/16 and 1/14 scales. ARRMA manufactures different CVD designs for other model lines and scales, so you should always verify compatibility before purchasing a rebuild kit. Always check your vehicle's manual or contact ARRMA customer support if you're unsure whether this kit is compatible with your specific model.
- How often should I rebuild my CVD driveshafts? — The frequency of CVD rebuilds depends entirely on how heavily you use your RC car. If you're an occasional weekend basher, you might only need to rebuild your CVD shafts once every year or two. If you're regularly competing, bashing aggressively, or driving on abrasive surfaces, you may need to rebuild more frequently. Listen for clicking or grinding noises, which are the primary warning signs that your CVD joints need attention. Some experienced RC drivers perform preventative rebuilds every few months during the active driving season.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Whilst this is a genuine spare part for ARRMA vehicles, it's technically a maintenance and upgrade component rather than a complete vehicle or beginner-friendly assembled unit. However, if you already own an ARRMA GROM vehicle and are looking to maintain it properly, having a rebuild kit on hand is a smart choice. Beginners with ARRMA ready to run RC cars will eventually benefit from having this maintenance kit available as their vehicle accumulates running hours.
- What tools do I need to rebuild my CVD driveshafts? — You'll typically need a small Phillips head screwdriver or hex wrench (depending on your vehicle model) to open the CVD housing, and a clean workspace to keep components organised. A small parts tray or container helps prevent losing small components like the steel pins and springs. Some people prefer using a light penetrating oil to ease disassembly if components are stuck from dirt or corrosion. Always consult your vehicle manual for the specific tool requirements for your particular GROM model.
