The E-flite servoless payload release enables you to drop a single payload while in flight, or enables you to use multiple devices to drop multiple payloads using only one channel on your receiver. It can also be used as a tow release for sailplanes.

Overview

The E-flite Servoless Payload Release System (F-EFLA405) is an innovative electronic device designed for RC aircraft enthusiasts who want to add dropping or release capabilities to their models without requiring additional servo channels. Whether you're flying scale aircraft, experimenting with payload delivery systems, or operating sailplanes that need tow release functionality, this servoless release system offers a versatile solution that connects directly to your receiver using standard servo connectors. This is an essential accessory for UK RC modellers looking to expand their aircraft's capabilities with minimal complexity and maximum reliability.

The F-EFLA405 represents a significant advantage over traditional servo-based release systems because it allows you to control multiple release mechanisms using just a single radio channel on your receiver. This means you can dedicate more of your transmitter channels to flight control whilst still maintaining full control over payload or tow release functions. The system is ready to use straight out of the box and features both electronic and manual release mechanisms, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications from experimental research aircraft to competitive sailplane operations across the UK RC flying community.

Built with quality engineering and ease of installation in mind, this servoless release system is ideal for modellers of all experience levels. Whether you're upgrading an existing aircraft, building a new scale model from a kit, or converting an ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) airframe, the F-EFLA405 integrates seamlessly into your RC setup. Its straightforward installation process and intuitive operation mean you'll have your payload release system operational within minutes, allowing you to get back to enjoying your RC flying sooner.

Key Features

  • Single Channel Control — The system plugs directly into your receiver using standard servo connectors and can control multiple release mechanisms using just one radio channel, freeing up additional channels on your transmitter for other flight control functions and reducing receiver complexity.
  • Dual Release Modes — Choose between one-by-one release mode where you trigger individual payloads sequentially, or programmed delay mode which releases payloads at predetermined time intervals, giving you complete flexibility for your specific mission profile.
  • Electronic and Manual Release Mechanisms — The system combines electronic actuation with manual override capability, ensuring you always have a backup method to release your payload if needed, enhancing safety and reliability during flight operations.
  • Standard Servo Connectors — Direct plug-and-play connection to your receiver using industry-standard servo connectors means no complex wiring or adapter cables are required, making installation quick and straightforward for any RC aircraft.
  • Multi-Device Capability — Connect and control multiple release mechanisms with this single radio channel, allowing you to drop several payloads from different points on your aircraft simultaneously or in sequence depending on your requirements.
  • Tow Release Functionality — Beyond simple payload dropping, the F-EFLA405 also functions as an effective tow release system for sailplanes, automatically or manually releasing your glider from tow at altitude to begin your soaring flight.
  • Ready to Use — This system arrives fully assembled and tested, requiring no calibration or complex setup procedures before you can start using it in your aircraft.

Technical Performance

The E-flite F-EFLA405 Servoless Payload Release System is engineered with reliability and ease of use as core design principles. The servoless architecture eliminates the need for standard servo motors, reducing power consumption and freeing up valuable servo channels on your receiver for other control functions. This innovative approach is particularly valuable for scale aircraft builds or research platforms where channel capacity on your radio system might be limited. The system utilises standard servo signal voltage compatible with most modern RC receivers, making it compatible with a wide range of equipment from budget-friendly entry-level systems to professional-grade radio gear used by competitive modellers across the UK. The combination of electronic and manual release mechanisms provides redundancy and safety—if your receiver signal drops or batteries deplete, the manual release ensures your payload or tow line can still be released safely. The compact design means the release system occupies minimal space within your aircraft, making it suitable for foamies, ARF models, and complex scale builds alike. Engineering quality throughout ensures consistent, reliable operation across numerous flight cycles, whether you're conducting regular flights at your local RC flying club or undertaking demanding experimental flights.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a servoless payload release system and how does it differ from servo-based alternatives? — A servoless release system operates without requiring a standard servo motor, instead using electronic actuation to trigger the release mechanism. This approach conserves receiver channel capacity, reduces power draw from your flight battery, and simplifies wiring compared to traditional servo-based systems. The F-EFLA405 lets you control multiple release devices through a single radio channel, whereas servo-based systems typically require one servo per release point.
  • Can I use this system to drop multiple payloads from my RC aircraft? — Yes, the F-EFLA405 is specifically designed to control multiple release mechanisms using just one radio channel. You can configure it for one-by-one sequential release or use the programmed delay mode to release multiple payloads at predetermined time intervals, giving you precise control over your payload deployment.
  • Is the F-EFLA405 suitable for sailplane tow release applications? — Absolutely. Beyond standard payload dropping, the system functions effectively as a tow release mechanism for sailplanes. You can trigger the release electronically at altitude or use the manual override if needed, making it ideal for both recreational soaring and competitive sailplane operations in the UK.
  • What type of receiver does this system work with? — The F-EFLA405 uses standard servo connectors and operates at standard servo signal voltage, making it compatible with virtually any modern RC receiver including Spektrum, Futaba, FrSky and other brands. Simply plug it into any available channel on your receiver and assign the release function through your transmitter programming.
  • Does the system have a manual release option if my receiver loses signal? — Yes, the F-EFLA405 includes both electronic and manual release mechanisms. The manual override ensures that even if your receiver batteries fail or signal is lost, you can still safely release your payload or tow line, providing essential redundancy for safe flight operations.
  • Is this system ready to use out of the box? — The F-EFLA405 arrives fully assembled and tested, requiring no calibration or configuration before installation. Simply connect it to your receiver, assign it to an available channel in your transmitter programming, and you're ready to fly.
  • What aircraft types can accommodate the F-EFLA405 release system? — This servoless system's compact footprint makes it suitable for foamies, ARF (Almost Ready to Fly) models, balsa kit builds, and scale aircraft of various sizes. Its low power consumption and single-channel operation make it particularly valuable for aircraft with limited receiver channel capacity or tight power budgets.
