Overview

The Etronix CSG Countersteer Gyro is a compact electronic steering stabiliser designed to transform your RC car driving experience, whether you're piloting a 2WD buggy, 4WD monster truck, or any RC model UK enthusiasts favour. This innovative device allows you to drive with significantly more confidence by automatically managing your steering output and keeping your car's tyres perfectly aligned with your chosen heading. If you've ever struggled with low-traction surfaces, battled unwanted spinouts, or wanted to master realistic drifting techniques, the CSG Countersteer Gyro is the perfect electronics aid to help you perform like a professional driver. RC driving is a genuine skill that can take years of practice to master, and the frustration of losing control in challenging conditions is something every RC car enthusiast recognises. This gyro dampens and reduces unwanted movement—the kind of corrections you never asked for your transmitter to make.

What makes the Etronix CSG truly special is its intelligent heading hold technology. The gyro constantly senses any uncommanded movement, such as the rear tyres sliding and losing traction, and instantly compensates by sending a corrective signal to your steering servo. This electronic stability aid effectively counteracts these unwanted movements, dramatically reducing the frustrating spinouts that plague 2WD models in particular. Whether you're learning advanced cornering techniques or perfecting your drifting skills on your RC car, the CSG provides the confidence and control you need. It's worth noting that while this gyro is not legal for competitive racing, it's an invaluable tool for recreational driving, practice sessions, and mastering vehicle control. The beauty of the Etronix CSG is its incredibly small footprint and lightweight construction—small enough to mount virtually anywhere on your vehicle without affecting weight distribution or handling characteristics. At this price point, it represents outstanding value for money in the RC hobby UK market.

The CSG Countersteer Gyro has become the gyro of choice for a reason: it's supplied as standard in all FTX Sidewinder 1/8 2WD buggies, which speaks volumes about its quality and reliability. Whether you're a seasoned basher looking to improve control, a hobbyist exploring new driving techniques, or someone discovering the world of RC cars for the first time, this gyro delivers predictable steering support in an easy-to-use package that requires no complicated setup or configuration.

Key Features

  • Intelligent Heading Hold Technology — The CSG's hold effect manages your steering output by automatically maintaining your car's tyre alignment in the direction you've chosen, giving you significantly more manoeuvrability and control over your vehicle, especially when tackling challenging low-traction surfaces or practising advanced cornering techniques.
  • Compact Size (21 x 21 x 11mm) — This tiny form factor means you can mount the gyro virtually anywhere on your RC car without worrying about space constraints or affecting the vehicle's weight distribution, making it compatible with almost every RC model in your collection.
  • Lightweight Construction (3.6g) — At just 3.6 grams, this gyro adds virtually no weight to your RC car, preserving your vehicle's handling characteristics and performance whilst delivering genuine electronic stability assistance.
  • Wide Operating Voltage Range (4V to 8.4V) — The CSG works seamlessly with virtually any battery setup in the RC hobby, from 2S LiPo batteries (8.4V) right down to NiMH packs, making it universally compatible across your entire RC car collection whether you're running 2WD buggies or 4WD trucks.
  • Adjustable Gain Control via Third Channel — On compatible transmitters featuring a third channel, you can adjust the gyro's gain on the fly, allowing you to dial in the perfect amount of stability assistance for different driving conditions, surfaces, and techniques without any complicated setup procedures.
  • Reduces Spinouts on 2WD Models — The gyro's stabilisation effect is particularly valuable on 2WD RC cars, where rear-end sliding and loss of traction are constant challenges; the CSG dramatically reduces these frustrating moments by actively counteracting unwanted movement.
  • Realistic Drifting Support — For RC enthusiasts interested in drifting techniques, the CSG provides genuine assistance in maintaining controlled slides and realistic drifting manoeuvres, helping you achieve professional-level drifting performance.
  • Simple Setup and Installation — The gyro requires no complex calibration or technical expertise; straightforward installation means you can have it operational within minutes, making it perfect for RC car hobbyists of all skill levels.
  • Universally Compatible — Being supplied as standard in FTX Sidewinder buggies demonstrates its broad compatibility; it works with virtually any RC car model that has a standard steering servo connection.

Technical Performance

The Etronix CSG Countersteer Gyro represents serious engineering in an incredibly compact package. This precision electronic stabiliser is built to the exacting standards you'd expect from a device supplied as standard equipment in commercial RC vehicles like the FTX Sidewinder 1/8 2WD buggy. The gyro's performance is underpinned by its intelligent heading hold system, which works by continuously monitoring gyroscopic input from your vehicle's steering axis. When the gyro detects any unwanted yaw or rotation that you didn't command through your transmitter, it instantly calculates the correction needed and sends a proportional signal to your steering servo to counteract the movement. This happens in milliseconds, giving you the impression that your RC car is significantly more stable and controllable than it actually is. The compact dimensions of just 21 x 21 x 11mm make it small enough to tuck into virtually any space on your vehicle—whether mounted low near the chassis for improved weight distribution, tucked under the body, or integrated into your electronics tray. At 3.6 grams, the weight penalty is negligible, which is crucial when precision driving and vehicle balance matter. The wide operating voltage specification (4V to 8.4V) makes it compatible with the full spectrum of battery technologies used in RC cars across the UK hobby market, from traditional NiMH packs up to modern LiPo batteries. The ability to adjust gyro gain via a third channel on compatible RC transmitters gives you sophisticated tuning capabilities without requiring any physical adjustments or reprogramming—simply dial your preferred settings whilst you're driving. This level of control allows you to optimise the gyro's assistance for different track conditions, vehicle setups, and your personal driving style.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Etronix CSG Countersteer Gyro suitable for beginners? — Absolutely, yes. The CSG is one of the most beginner-friendly gyros available because it requires no complex setup or calibration and comes with simple installation instructions. If you're new to the RC hobby and struggling with control, especially on a 2WD buggy or in low-traction conditions, the gyro will immediately improve your driving confidence and reduce frustrating spinouts. It's an excellent tool for learning advanced techniques like drifting without the embarrassment of constant crashes.
  • What battery does the Etronix CSG Countersteer Gyro need? — The CSG doesn't require a dedicated battery; it draws power directly from your receiver's voltage supply. With its wide operating voltage range of 4V to 8.4V, it's compatible with virtually every battery setup in the RC hobby market, from traditional NiMH batteries through to modern 2S LiPo packs (which provide 8.4V nominal). This universal compatibility means you can use it on every RC car in your collection without worrying about power requirements.
  • Can I use this gyro on my ARRMA Senton 3S V3 BLX or other brushless RC cars? — Yes, the CSG works with any RC car that features a standard servo connector and receiver. It's equally effective on brushless and brushed vehicles, 2WD buggies, 4WD trucks, and virtually any other RC model. The gyro is particularly valuable on 2WD models where spinouts are more common, but it enhances control on any vehicle.
  • Is the Etronix CSG Countersteer Gyro legal for racing? — No, the CSG is not legal for competitive racing, which is an important consideration if you're planning to enter organised RC races or competitions. However, it's ideal for recreational driving, practice sessions, skill development, and weekend bashing where regulations aren't enforced. Many RC drivers use it specifically to improve their technique during training before removing it for actual races.
  • How does the gain adjustment feature work? — If your RC transmitter has a three-channel capability, you can assign a third channel (typically a knob, switch, or slider) to control the gyro's gain in real-time. This allows you to adjust how much stabilisation assistance the gyro provides without stopping to make physical adjustments or reprogramming. You might reduce gain for fast, responsive driving or increase it for more stability in challenging conditions.
  • Why is the CSG Countersteer Gyro supplied as standard in FTX Sidewinder buggies? — FTX includes the CSG as standard because it significantly improves the driving experience and control characteristics of their 1/8 2WD buggy. This factory endorsement speaks to the gyro's quality, reliability, and genuine effectiveness—manufacturers only include components in their production vehicles if they genuinely enhance the product and reflect well on their brand.
  • How does this gyro help with drifting? — The CSG's heading hold technology manages your steering servo signals intelligently, allowing you to maintain more controlled, realistic drifts. Rather than spinning out uncontrollably, the gyro helps keep your RC car oriented in the direction you intend, enabling you to practice and master drifting techniques that would otherwise be extremely difficult to learn.
  • Can I adjust the gyro's performance after installation? — Yes, if your transmitter supports three channels, you can adjust the gain dynamically whilst driving. If you want to make more significant adjustments, you would need to reprogramme the gyro itself, though most users find the default settings work excellently straight out of the box. The simplicity of the CSG is one of its greatest strengths—no complicated tuning is required.
