Key Features

  • Factory-Installed Long Arm Lift Kit — The K10 High Trail Edition arrives pre-assembled with Traxxas' advanced lift kit already fitted, raising the chassis over an inch higher than standard TRX-4 models. This increased ground clearance allows you to clear significantly larger obstacles and traverse more extreme terrain without getting snagged on rocks or roots that would stop conventional RC crawlers.
  • Extended 336mm Wheelbase — The K10's steel frame rails stretch the wheelbase to 336mm, perfectly capturing the real-world proportions of the 1979 Chevrolet pickup. A longer wheelbase translates directly into superior climbing stability when tackling steep inclines, whilst delivering a smoother, more predictable ride over rough, broken terrain.
  • Portal Axles with Extreme Gear Reduction — Traxxas' signature portal axle design is standard on all TRX-4 models and provides more than twice the total gear reduction of conventional straight axles. This extraordinary gear reduction converts engine RPM into genuine crawling torque whilst eliminating destructive torque twist—the unwanted leaning action that reduces traction on conventional rock crawlers.
  • Oversized 2.2-Inch Canyon Trail Tyres — The K10 rides on large 2.2-inch diameter mag wheels fitted with aggressive Canyon Trail compound tyres. These substantial rubber offers superior traction across mud, gravel, rock and loose terrain, extending your trail adventures farther than ever before whilst maintaining authentic scale appearance.
  • Clipless Body Mounting System — The highly detailed K10 replica body uses hidden internal latching mechanisms that hold securely during trail abuse but release in just seconds when you need chassis access. This innovative clipless system eliminates traditional body clips that can interrupt the bodywork's clean lines and looks, delivering superior scale realism.
  • Heavy-Duty Steel Ladder Frame — The chassis backbone consists of two rigid C-channel rails made from 1.5mm steel, extending continuously from bumper to bumper as single unbroken pieces. This genuine ladder-frame construction provides exceptional durability and strength, resisting flex during aggressive rock crawling whilst maintaining straight-line stability.
  • Dual-Plate Slipper Clutch — This precision component protects the drivetrain from shock loads during impact, allowing controlled slipping when forces exceed safe limits. The dual-plate design ensures smooth engagement and repeatable performance across countless impact scenarios.
  • GTS Aluminium Shock Absorbers (110mm) — The High Trail Edition features extended 110mm GTS shocks delivering exceptional articulation for maximum suspension travel. The 8mm aluminium bore provides authentic scale proportions whilst maintaining sufficient oil capacity for consistently smooth damping performance throughout extended trail sessions.
  • High-Strength Steel Suspension Links — The TRX-4's upper and lower suspension links are precision-engineered from high-strength steel with captured rod ends and steel hollow balls. These rigid components resist flex during aggressive terrain interaction and shrug off rock-crawling scrapes without permanent deformation, delivering long-term durability and consistent geometry.
  • Waterproof Electronics — The XL-5 HV speed control and Titan 550 motor come factory-sealed for water resistance, allowing confident fording of streams and water crossings without electronic failure. This genuine waterproof capability expands your trail exploration possibilities dramatically.

This sophisticated system delivers maximum torque for climbing whilst providing speed capability for faster terrain.
  • 45-Degree Steering Angle — The TRX-4 chassis allows extreme steering lock enabling impossibly tight turning circles essential for navigating technical rock gardens and confined spaces where conventional RC crawlers cannot operate.
  • Titanium 21T Reverse Rotation Motor — The included Titan 550 brushed motor spins in reverse rotation, an engineering choice that optimises power delivery for the crawling gearbox and suspension geometry. The 21T armature provides the power characteristics ideal for trail work.
  • TQi 2.4GHz 4-Channel Radio System — The included transmitter operates on secure 2.4GHz frequency technology offering interference-free operation in crowded RC environments. Four independent channels control forwards/reverse, steering, transmission shifting and auxiliary functions with impressive range and response precision.
  • Metal-Gear High-Torque Steering Servo — The included 2075X servo features metal gearing providing reliable steering response with outstanding durability for demanding trail conditions. High-torque engineering ensures responsive steering even when the front wheels bind against rocks.
  • Adjustable Wheelbase Configuration — The TRX-4 chassis accepts wheelbase configurations of 300mm, 312mm, 324mm or 336mm, enabling future body conversions to different Traxxas K10 and other TRX-4 compatible platforms without purchasing new chassis components.
  • 45° Approach and 67° Breakover Angles — These carefully optimised geometry angles allow the K10 to climb exceptionally steep front obstacles whilst maintaining rear wheel traction, and to traverse ridge-line obstacles without dragging the chassis—critical capabilities for genuine rock crawling.
  • Traxxas-Tough Durability Philosophy — Every component is engineered with trail longevity in mind, from the steel frame rails through to the precision steering linkages. This vehicle is designed not merely to survive trail abuse but to deliver consistent performance across years of active exploration.

Technical Performance

The Traxxas TRX-4 K10 High Trail Edition delivers serious climbing performance through an intelligent combination of advanced engineering. At its heart sits the Titan 21T brushed motor delivering consistent torque through the XL-5 HV waterproof speed control. This brushed motor and ESC combination may not deliver high top speeds, but excels in the low-speed, high-torque environment where genuine trail crawling occurs. The 2-speed Hi-Lo transmission accepts NiMH batteries from 4 to 7 cells, or LiPo batteries from 2S to 3S configurations, offering flexibility in power source selection based on your charging infrastructure and performance preferences. The 32-pitch gear set provides exceptional torque multiplication through the portal axles, enabling the K10 to climb obstacles that would stop conventional RC crawlers dead. Chassis construction centres on the steel ladder frame with nylon composite crossmembers, weighing just 3.35kg without battery, providing excellent power-to-weight ratio for climbing performance. The suspension geometry incorporates 3-link front suspension with Panhard bar and 4-link rear suspension with remote-locking differentials, offering independently controllable traction characteristics. The 4-gear differentials allow full locking for maximum traction in extreme terrain, or open differential operation for more predictable handling on varied surfaces. Ground clearance measures 99mm from centre chassis to terrain, with 70-degree approach angle and 52-degree departure angle allowing aggressive terrain interaction. The vehicle measures 563mm in length with a 277mm overall height, standing over 27cm wide at the track for stable, planted handling. Tyres measure 135 x 54mm providing substantial contact patch and sidewall compliance for trail comfort. The entire electronics package is engineered for wet operation, with waterproof motor seals and sealed connectors enabling confident water crossing and muddy terrain exploration. Build quality reflects Traxxas' heritage of delivering trail-proven designs that evolve through generations of serious crawler feedback.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is the Traxxas TRX-4 K10 suitable for beginners to RC trail crawling? — Yes, the TRX-4 K10 is rated as Skill Level 1-2, making it accessible to newcomers to RC crawling. The included XL-5 HV speed control features beginner-friendly Trail and Crawl modes that manage power delivery intelligently, preventing overwhelming acceleration. However, the TRX-4 is truly a versatile platform equally appealing to experienced crawlers seeking premium capability, so this is genuinely a vehicle you won't outgrow. The extensive Traxxas accessory ecosystem means you can progressively enhance performance and capability as your skills develop.
  • What battery configuration should I choose for the TRX-4 K10? — The vehicle accepts NiMH batteries from 4-cell to 7-cell, or LiPo batteries from 2S to 3S. For beginners, a 4-cell or 5-cell NiMH battery offers excellent balance of performance and charging simplicity. A Traxxas 5000mAh NiMH stick pack (approximately £30) is typical. For enhanced performance, a 2S or 3S LiPo battery provides more power but requires an appropriate LiPo-capable charger and careful handling. A 3S LiPo configuration will deliver noticeably improved climbing power compared to NiMH equivalents.
  • How does the High Trail Edition differ from standard TRX-4 models? — The High Trail Edition arrives pre-assembled with Traxxas' factory-installed Long Arm Lift Kit, raising the chassis significantly higher than standard models. It includes extended 110mm GTS shocks versus standard 90mm shocks, and features the extended 336mm wheelbase specifically matched to the K10 body proportions. The oversized 2.2-inch Canyon Trail tyres and mag wheels are substantially larger than standard fitments. These enhancements create a more capable climbing platform specifically engineered for extreme terrain. Standard TRX-4 models use narrower tyres and shorter suspension, making them lighter and faster-focused but less equipped for serious rock crawling.
  • What makes the portal axles so special on the TRX-4? — Portal axles are Traxxas' signature design, featuring an extra pair of gears at each end that accomplish two critical functions. First, they raise the differential housing significantly higher relative to the terrain, massively increasing ground clearance. Second, they provide more than twice the total gear reduction of conventional straight axles, converting engine RPM into genuine climbing torque whilst eliminating destructive torque twist—the leaning action that compromises traction on conventional crawlers. This is why TRX-4 models climb so much more effectively than comparably-powered conventional crawlers.
  • Is the K10 truly waterproof? — The TRX-4 includes genuine waterproof electronics with sealed motor compartment and waterproof XL-5 HV speed control, enabling confident fording of streams and operation in wet conditions. However, the term "waterproof" describes electronics sealing rather than complete submersion capability—extended water immersion should be avoided. The vehicle handles mud, stream crossings, rain, and damp conditions confidently, but isn't engineered for full underwater operation.
  • How fast does the TRX-4 K10 go? — The TRX-4 prioritises crawling capability over raw speed. With the 21T brushed motor and 2-speed transmission, top speed is approximately 10-15 mph depending on battery configuration and terrain. This seemingly modest speed reflects Traxxas' crawling-first design philosophy—the vehicle excels at technical climbing and obstacle negotiation rather than high-speed running. If maximum speed is your priority, ARRMA or Traxxas basher models would be more suitable.
  • What is the difference between Trail Mode and Crawl Mode? — The XL-5 HV speed control includes two specialised driving modes selectable via transmitter. Trail Mode provides slightly higher power for general trail running across mixed terrain. Crawl Mode engages maximum low-speed torque and sophisticated throttle response tuning optimised for technical rock crawling where precise power modulation is critical. The Hill Hold brake system prevents rollback on steep inclines in both modes.
  • Can I use this vehicle indoors? — The TRX-4 K10 is specifically engineered for outdoor trail use and truly benefits from open spaces to exploit its climbing capabilities. Indoor use is possible in very large spaces, but the vehicle's strengths—ground clearance, articulation, climbing power—are essentially wasted in confined indoor environments. Smaller TRX-4M models are specifically designed for indoor crawling if that's your primary interest.
  • What maintenance does the TRX-4 require? — The TRX-4 is engineered for trail durability but benefits from basic maintenance. After wet operation, rinsing the chassis with fresh water prevents corrosion. The shocks should be inspected periodically for oil leakage, and suspension links should be checked for damage. Motor brushes in the Titan 550 will eventually wear and require replacement, typically after 40-50 hours of operation. Traxxas supplies detailed maintenance guidance and spare parts are readily available through RC Model Shop.
  • What radio frequency does the TQi transmitter use? — The included TQi transmitter operates on secure 2.4GHz frequency technology, offering interference-free operation even in crowded RC parks or environments with multiple vehicles running simultaneously. The 4-channel receiver provides independent control of forwards/reverse, steering, transmission shifting and one auxiliary channel for future expansion.
  • How long does the battery last during operation? — Runtime depends on battery capacity and driving style, but expect 20-40 minutes of continuous operation from typical NiMH batteries, or 15-30 minutes from LiPo batteries due to their higher discharge rates. Crawling driving—frequent stopping and low-speed navigation—typically extends runtime compared to continuous high-power running.
  • Can I upgrade the motor to brushless for more power? — The TRX-4 chassis is designed around the brushed motor and gearbox architecture. Whilst Traxxas produces brushless TRX models, retrofitting brushless components requires extensive modifications and is not recommended. The brushed motor approach was deliberately chosen for trail reliability and the sophisticated control characteristics of the XL-5 HV ESC are specifically tuned to brushed motor operation.
  • What is the wheelbase and how does it affect performance? — The K10 High Trail Edition features a 336mm wheelbase—the longest available in the TRX-4 lineup. The extended wheelbase improves climbing stability on steep angles by spreading weight distribution more effectively, whilst the longer chassis maintains directional stability over broken terrain. Standard TRX-4 models typically use 312mm or 324mm wheelbases, making them more agile in tight spaces but slightly less stable when climbing extreme angles.

We want to make sure your delivery goes smoothly, so here are some important details about our service:

  • For orders above £120, we offer delivery to most mainland UK addresses. For orders under £120, we can still deliver to Northern Ireland and the outlying isles, as long as the item can be sent by Royal Mail, weighs less than 30kg, and fits within 61cm × 46cm × 46cm. Some highland and remote areas may carry an extra delivery charge as couriers often apply surcharges in these locations. If you live in one of these areas, feel free to contact us before ordering so we can confirm the delivery options and costs for you.
  • Most of our products include delivery in the price. If your order is under £90, a small delivery fee will apply but do not worry this will always be clearly shown at checkout before you complete your purchase.
  • Depending on what you choose at checkout, your order will usually be delivered either the next working day or within 2 working days. For next day delivery please place your order before 2:00pm. Orders are dispatched Monday to Friday only. Some items may take a little longer and if that is the case we will always show the expected delivery time on the product page.
  • If your order includes items with different dispatch times we will normally wait and send everything together once all items are in stock. If one of the items is going to take a while we will give you the choice either wait for everything to arrive or let us send the available items now and deliver the rest later. It is up to you.
  • We use trusted delivery partners to make sure your order gets to you safely and on time. We use DPD for next working day deliveries and Royal Mail for the 2 day option.
  • As soon as your order is on its way we will send you a tracking number by email. If you provide your mobile number at checkout we will also send delivery updates straight to your phone so you can keep an eye on progress.
  • If a product is marked as "Dispatched within 3 working days" delivery usually takes around 3 to 5 working days from when your order is placed.
  • For customers in Inverness and other parts of the Scottish Highlands deliveries can take up to 2 working days even if you select next day delivery as couriers do not currently offer a guaranteed next day service to those areas.
