Overview
The Traxxas Hollow Balls, Steel (machined) TRX7028X represents a premium upgrade for RC enthusiasts looking to enhance the precision and durability of their 1/16 scale Traxxas models. Whether you're running a TRX-4M Ford Bronco, Land Rover Defender, Ford F-150, Chevrolet K10, or one of the TRX-4MT monster truck variants, these fully machined steel balls deliver a significant improvement over standard plastic components. If you're serious about RC car performance in the UK and want to eliminate sloppy suspension geometry that compromises handling and responsiveness, these machined steel hollow balls are an essential upgrade for any dedicated RC enthusiast.
Designed as direct replacements for the standard plastic hollow balls found on Traxxas 1/16 models, these components represent the kind of precision engineering that separates weekend bashers from those who demand genuine performance gains. The transition from plastic to machined steel is one of the most noticeable upgrades you can make to a small-scale RC crawler or trail truck, immediately tightening up the suspension feel and improving steering response. These hollow balls work in conjunction with your existing push rods and rod ends to create a more precise, responsive suspension system with considerably less play and movement.
Available at RC Model Shop, your trusted UK RC retailer, the TRX7028X offers genuine Traxxas quality with the backing of an authorised dealer. When you upgrade to these machined steel balls, you're investing in extended component lifespan, improved precision handling, and the peace of mind that comes with using genuine Traxxas spare parts specifically engineered for your model.
Key Features
- Fully Machined Steel Construction — These hollow balls are precision-machined from steel rather than moulded plastic, ensuring dimensional accuracy and superior durability that eliminates the flex and play found in standard components. Steel construction means these balls will maintain their geometry through countless hours of bashing, crawling, and trail running without wear-induced slop developing over time.
- Direct Replacement for Plastic Balls — Engineered as exact replacements for the standard plastic hollow balls on 1/16 scale Traxxas models, installation is straightforward with no modification required. Simply remove your existing plastic balls and install the machined steel versions for an immediate improvement in suspension precision.
- Precision Engineered for Reduced Slop — The manufacturing process ensures these balls have minimal internal wear and maintain perfect spherical geometry, dramatically reducing the sloppy feeling that develops in plastic ball suspensions. Users consistently report noticeably tighter steering response and improved handling after installation.
- Extended Component Lifespan — Steel offers superior wear resistance compared to plastic, meaning these hollow balls will outlast multiple sets of plastic replacements. This makes them a cost-effective long-term investment for serious RC hobbyists running their Traxxas models regularly.
- Compatible with Multiple TRX-4M and TRX-4MT Models — These balls work with the full range of 1/16 scale Traxxas trail trucks and monster trucks, including all colour variants of the Ford Bronco, Land Rover Defender, Ford F-150, and Chevrolet K10 models, making them a versatile upgrade for most modern small-scale Traxxas platforms.
Technical Performance
The TRX7028X hollow balls represent a significant step up in suspension component quality and engineering precision. Manufactured from machined steel rather than injection-moulded plastic, these balls deliver the kind of dimensional consistency and durability that serious RC enthusiasts demand. The fully machined construction process ensures that each ball maintains perfect spherical geometry with no variation or flash, eliminating the inherent slop present in plastic components. When installed in the suspension linkages of your 1/16 scale Traxxas model, these steel balls work directly with your push rods and rod ends to create a tighter, more responsive suspension system. The reduction in play translates to improved steering response, more consistent handling characteristics, and better feedback through the controls. Unlike plastic hollow balls that develop micro-movement and flex under load, steel construction provides rigid support for your suspension geometry, maintaining the precision setup you've dialled in over multiple driving sessions. The machined finish is clean and burr-free, ensuring smooth operation and preventing premature wear on mating components. For UK RC enthusiasts running their Traxxas trail crawlers and rock crawlers over challenging terrain, upgrading to these machined steel balls is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve overall vehicle precision and handling without requiring significant time investment or technical expertise.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Are these machined steel hollow balls a worthwhile upgrade for my 1/16 Traxxas trail truck? — Yes, absolutely. Users consistently report that upgrading from plastic to machined steel hollow balls is one of the most noticeable suspension improvements they can make to their 1/16 scale Traxxas models. The reduction in slop is immediately apparent, with noticeably tighter steering response and improved handling precision. If you've been running your model for a while and noticed the suspension feeling increasingly sloppy, replacing the plastic balls with machined steel versions will restore and exceed the original precision.
- Will these fit my specific Traxxas TRX-4M or TRX-4MT model? — Yes, these TRX7028X hollow balls are engineered as direct replacements for the standard plastic balls on all 1/16 scale Traxxas trail trucks and monster trucks. This includes the TRX-4M Ford Bronco (all colour variants), TRX-4M Land Rover Defender (all colour variants), TRX-4M Ford F-150, TRX-4M Chevrolet K10, TRX-4MT K10 Monster Truck, and TRX-4MT F150 Monster Truck. No modification is required—they install directly in place of your existing plastic balls.
- How many hollow balls do I need to upgrade my suspension? — The number of balls you'll need depends on your specific model's suspension design. Most 1/16 scale Traxxas models use multiple hollow balls in their linkage systems. We recommend checking your model's spare parts diagram or contacting our expert team at RC Model Shop to confirm the exact quantity needed for your particular vehicle.
- What's the difference between these machined steel balls and the standard plastic balls? — The primary differences are material and manufacturing precision. Plastic balls are injection-moulded and inherently develop flex and micro-movement under suspension load, creating noticeable slop in steering response. Machined steel balls are precision-engineered from solid steel stock, maintaining perfect spherical geometry and rigid support for your suspension linkages. The result is noticeably tighter handling, improved steering response, and extended component lifespan. Plastic balls degrade with age and repeated use, whilst steel balls maintain their precision indefinitely.
- Are these suitable for both trail crawling and rock crawling? — Yes, these machined steel hollow balls are ideal for any driving style with 1/16 scale Traxxas models. Whether you're running tight technical rock crawls, woodland trail courses, or recreational bashing, the improved suspension precision benefits all driving applications. The rigid support provided by steel construction is particularly valuable during technical crawling where precise steering response is essential.
- How do I install these machined hollow balls? — Installation is straightforward. Simply identify the plastic hollow balls in your suspension linkages, remove them carefully, and install the machined steel versions in their place. They integrate directly with your existing push rods and rod ends—no modification required. If you're unfamiliar with your model's suspension layout, consult the assembly manual or contact our team for guidance.
