Overview

The ARRMA Machined Shock Piston Tapered, 4x1.4mm Hole (2) Z-ARA330769 represents a precision-engineered suspension component designed to elevate the performance of your ARRMA RC vehicles. These machined shock pistons are essential upgrades for enthusiasts who demand advanced damping characteristics and fine-tuned suspension behaviour from their brushless RC cars and trucks. Whether you're piloting a 1/8 scale KRATON, NOTORIOUS, OUTCAST, TALION, TYPHON, or other compatible ARRMA models, this component delivers the precision you need to optimise your vehicle's handling dynamics.

Shock pistons are critical suspension components that control how your vehicle's shocks compress and extend during acceleration, deceleration, cornering and rough terrain. The tapered design of these ARRMA pistons allows for different compression and extension damping characteristics, giving you greater control over how your RC buggy, speed truck or stunt truck responds to track conditions. This level of suspension tuning is particularly valuable for UK RC competitors who need to adapt their setups to varying conditions at local racing venues and outdoor bashing locations.

Available now at RC Model Shop, these machined shock pistons come as a pair, ready to install into your ARRMA ready to run RC vehicle. The precision manufacturing ensures compatibility with standard shock bodies, whilst the advanced material composition delivers reliable performance lap after lap. If you're serious about getting the best performance from your ARRMA RC car, these shock pistons are an investment in handling precision and damping control.

Key Features

  • Precision Machined Construction — Each piston is machined to exact tolerances, ensuring an accurate fit within your shock body and eliminating the play or inconsistency found in lower-quality alternatives, which translates to more predictable and responsive suspension behaviour.
  • High-Quality POM Material — These pistons are manufactured from POM (polyoxymethylene), a premium engineering plastic that delivers low friction, high stiffness and excellent dimensional stability, meaning your suspension performs consistently even during extended running sessions.
  • Tapered Piston Design — The tapered shape allows different compression and extension damping characteristics, giving you the ability to fine-tune how your suspension responds during acceleration, braking and cornering for optimised handling on any terrain.
  • Four Precision Holes at 1.4mm Diameter — Each piston features four precisely drilled holes measuring 1.4mm in diameter, which control the flow of shock fluid and allow you to adjust damping levels by using different oils or adding shims, essential for suspension tuning.
  • Pair Included — You receive two machined shock pistons per pack, enough to service both front and rear shocks on your RC buggy, speed truck or stunt truck in a single purchase.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA Machined Shock Piston Tapered represents the pinnacle of suspension component engineering for 1/8 scale RC vehicles. Manufactured from high-grade POM material, these pistons deliver the low-friction performance essential for smooth suspension action whilst maintaining the rigidity needed for precision handling. The tapered profile is engineered to provide different damping characteristics between compression and extension strokes, allowing experienced RC drivers to dial in the perfect suspension feel for their specific driving style and track conditions. The four 1.4mm diameter holes are precision-drilled to exacting tolerances, creating the fluid passages through which shock oil flows to generate damping force. This hole configuration is compatible with standard ARRMA shock setups, including those found on the 1/8 KRATON 6S, NOTORIOUS 6S, OUTCAST 6S, TALION 6S, and TYPHON 6S range of brushless RTR trucks and buggies. By swapping between different viscosity shock oils or using shim stacks, you can adjust the damping curve to suit your preferred suspension response, making these pistons an essential tool for serious tuners and competitive RC drivers.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What ARRMA vehicles are compatible with these shock pistons? — These machined shock pistons are standard parts for several ARRMA 1/8 scale models, including the KRATON 6S 4X4 RTR Brushless Speed Truck, NOTORIOUS 6S 4X4 RTR Brushless Stunt Truck, OUTCAST 6S EXB AVC 4X4 RTR Brushless Stunt Truck, TALION 6S EXB AVC 4X4 RTR Brushless Speed Truck, TYPHON 6S 4X4 RTR Brushless Buggy, TYPHON 6S TLR Tuned 4X4 Roller, and TYPHON 6S TLR Tuned 4X4 RTR. Always confirm your specific model before purchasing replacement parts.
  • Why would I need to replace my shock pistons? — Over time, shock pistons can wear, develop micro-scratches, or become damaged through extensive use, causing inconsistent damping performance. Upgrading to these precision-machined pistons refreshes your suspension and can improve handling consistency, making them an ideal maintenance item for serious RC enthusiasts and competitive drivers.
  • How do the tapered pistons differ from standard flat pistons? — The tapered design of these ARRMA pistons creates different flow characteristics during compression versus extension, allowing you to tune your suspension for asymmetrical damping. This means you can have softer compression (the shock compresses more easily under impact) and firmer extension (the shock extends more slowly), or vice versa, depending on your needs.
  • Can I adjust the damping with these pistons? — Yes, absolutely. By using different viscosity shock oils (measured in weight) or adding shim stacks around the piston, you can fine-tune the damping curve. The four 1.4mm holes allow oil to flow through the piston, and modifying this flow rate changes how your suspension responds to bumps and inputs.
  • Are these suitable for beginners? — These are replacement parts best suited to owners who already have an ARRMA vehicle and understand basic suspension maintenance. Beginners should first become familiar with their vehicle's standard setup before exploring suspension tuning, though these pistons are an excellent upgrade once you're ready to optimise performance.
  • What material are these pistons made from? — These shock pistons are precision-machined from POM (polyoxymethylene), a premium engineering-grade plastic that offers excellent dimensional stability, low friction, and high stiffness for reliable long-term performance in demanding RC applications.
