Overview
The FTX DR8 1:8 6S Bearing Kit is an essential replacement component set for owners of the FTX DR8 1/8 Desert Racer 6S RTR. This complete bearing kit has been engineered to restore your RC car's drivetrain to factory specification or to upgrade worn bearings that may have suffered from use on the track or trail. Whether you are a serious RC enthusiast maintaining your competition-grade RC buggy or a weekend basher keeping your desert racer in peak condition, quality bearings are fundamental to smooth operation, reduced friction and maximum performance. The FTX DR8 is a respected 1/8 scale brushless RC vehicle, and having a full replacement bearing kit on hand ensures you can quickly service your model without downtime.
This comprehensive bearing kit includes all the ball bearings you need for complete drivetrain refresh across every critical area of your FTX DR8. Manufactured by Zen, a recognised name in precision ball bearing production, these bearings are designed to exact tolerances to match your desert racer's specifications. Keeping spare bearings in your pit box is a smart approach to RC car maintenance, allowing you to extend the life of your vehicle and maintain consistent performance lap after lap. For anyone serious about their RC car UK hobby, having quality replacement parts like this bearing kit demonstrates a commitment to proper maintenance and vehicle longevity.
The kit contains everything needed to refresh the hub bearings, differential bearings, transmission bearings and steering bearings in your DR8. This complete package means you do not need to source individual bearing sizes separately, saving time and ensuring compatibility across your entire drivetrain. Whether you are experiencing worn bearings affecting handling, replacing damaged components after a crash, or simply performing preventative maintenance on your 1/8 scale RC car, this bearing kit provides the peace of mind that comes with using genuine specification components.
Key Features
- Complete Drivetrain Coverage — This kit includes all necessary bearings for hubs, differential, transmission and steering, ensuring you have everything required for a full bearing service without needing to order multiple individual components separately.
- Zen Bearing Manufacture — The bearings are produced by Zen, a quality manufacturer recognised for precision ball bearing production, ensuring smooth operation and long service life for your desert racer.
- Factory Specification Design — Each bearing in the kit is engineered to match the exact specifications of the FTX DR8, guaranteeing perfect fit and performance without modification or adjustment.
- Reduced Friction and Wear — Fresh bearings significantly reduce friction throughout the drivetrain, improving acceleration response, efficiency and overall vehicle handling characteristics on the track.
- Extended Vehicle Lifespan — Regular bearing replacement as part of a preventative maintenance schedule helps protect other drivetrain components from accelerated wear caused by degraded bearings.
- Convenient Single Purchase — Rather than sourcing multiple individual bearing sizes, this complete kit bundles everything together, simplifying the maintenance process and ensuring nothing is forgotten.
Technical Performance
The FTX DR8 is an 1/8 scale brushless RC desert racer built for high-performance competition and recreational driving. Bearings are critical to maintaining the precision engineering that makes such vehicles responsive and reliable. This bearing kit contains 18 units of 8x16x5mm bearings and 4 units of 6x10x3mm bearings, providing complete coverage across all drivetrain systems. The 8x16x5mm size bearings are employed in the high-load areas such as hubs and differential, whilst the smaller 6x10x3mm bearings are used in steering and secondary transmission systems where space is more restricted. Zen bearings are known for their tight tolerances and smooth operation, critical factors in maintaining the handling precision and acceleration response expected from a serious competition-grade 1/8 scale RC car. By replacing bearings as part of regular maintenance, you maintain the low-friction operation that keeps your DR8 performing at peak efficiency, whether you are chasing lap times at the track or enjoying spirited recreational runs. For UK RC car enthusiasts, keeping this bearing kit as a spare component demonstrates professional-level vehicle care.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Is this bearing kit compatible with my FTX DR8 1/8 desert racer? — Yes, this kit is specifically designed for the FTX DR8 1/8 Desert Racer 6S RTR models (FTX5495R Red and FTX5495B Blue versions). It contains all the bearings required to service the hubs, differential, transmission and steering systems on these models.
- How often should I replace bearings on my RC car? — Bearing replacement frequency depends on usage intensity. Competitive racers may replace bearings multiple times per season, whilst recreational drivers might service bearings annually or every few seasons. You should replace bearings immediately if you notice grinding, resistance or play in drivetrain components.
- What makes Zen bearings a good choice for RC applications? — Zen is a recognised manufacturer of precision ball bearings engineered for the tight tolerances demanded by RC vehicles. Their bearings offer smooth operation with minimal friction, which translates directly to better acceleration, efficiency and handling response on track.
- Can I fit these bearings myself? — Bearing replacement is a straightforward maintenance task for most RC enthusiasts with basic mechanical knowledge. You will need appropriate tools such as bearing pullers and installers, and a clean work environment. If you are unfamiliar with bearing replacement, consider having a local RC specialist perform the service.
- Do I need this kit for a new DR8 or only for replacement? — This is a replacement bearing kit designed for service and maintenance. A new FTX DR8 RTR comes with bearings pre-installed. You would purchase this kit when those original bearings become worn, damaged or when performing preventative maintenance.
- What is the difference between 8x16x5mm and 6x10x3mm bearings in this kit? — The larger 8x16x5mm bearings are installed in high-load areas such as wheel hubs and the differential where greater loads are present. The smaller 6x10x3mm bearings are used in the steering system and other secondary applications where space is constrained and loads are lighter.
