Overview

The Team Losi Racing TLR Silicone Diff Fluid 4000CS is a precision-engineered differential lubricant designed for RC car enthusiasts who demand reliable performance from their drivetrain. Whether you're a competitive racer fine-tuning your setup or an RC car UK hobbyist maintaining your vehicle for peak performance, this silicone differential fluid plays a crucial role in protecting and optimising your differential assembly. Manufactured by Team Losi Racing, a recognised leader in RC racing components and lubricants, this 4000 centistoke fluid offers the ideal balance of viscosity and performance characteristics for demanding RC applications.

Differential fluid is essential for any serious RC car owner because it reduces friction, dissipates heat, and protects the delicate gears inside your differential from wear and tear. The 4000CS viscosity rating makes this product suitable for a range of driving conditions and differential designs, allowing you to fine-tune your car's handling characteristics and drivetrain responsiveness. By choosing the correct differential fluid, you're investing in the longevity of your RC car's drivetrain and ensuring smoother, more predictable performance on the track or trail.

RC Model Shop stocks an extensive range of Team Losi Racing lubricants and maintenance products, making it easy to source everything you need to keep your ready to run RC car or racing kit in top condition. This silicone-based formulation is part of TLR's comprehensive fluid range, which includes multiple viscosity options to suit different setups, driving styles, and weather conditions.

Key Features

  • Silicone-Based Formulation — This fluid is manufactured using premium silicone compounds that provide superior lubrication properties compared to standard mineral oils, ensuring better protection against friction and heat generation within your differential assembly.
  • 4000 Centistoke Viscosity — The 4000CS rating represents a medium viscosity that strikes an excellent balance between flow and protection, making it suitable for a variety of racing conditions and differential configurations used in competitive and recreational RC racing.
  • Team Losi Racing Heritage — Manufactured by Team Losi Racing, a brand with decades of experience in RC racing and competition-grade components, this fluid benefits from engineering and testing that comes from real-world racing applications and feedback.
  • Precision Differential Tuning — By selecting the correct viscosity differential fluid, you can fine-tune your RC car's handling characteristics, affecting how quickly the differential responds and how the vehicle behaves under acceleration and cornering.
  • Excellent Heat Dissipation — Silicone-based fluids are engineered to dissipate heat more effectively than conventional oils, which is critical during extended racing sessions where differential temperatures can rise significantly.
  • Long-Term Protection — This differential fluid provides durable protection against wear, corrosion, and oxidation, extending the service life of your differential gears and internal components between rebuilds.

Technical Performance

The TLR Silicone Diff Fluid 4000CS is engineered with precision-grade silicone compounds that deliver consistent viscosity and thermal stability across a wide operating temperature range. In RC racing, differential fluid performance directly impacts drivetrain efficiency and handling predictability. The 4000 centistoke rating positions this fluid in the mid-range of Team Losi Racing's differential fluid lineup, making it an excellent choice for standard racing applications where moderate differential locking characteristics are desired. Silicone-based formulations offer superior consistency compared to synthetic or mineral alternatives, meaning the fluid maintains stable performance whether you're racing in cool morning conditions or under the heat of intense competition. The fluid's ability to reduce friction within the differential reduces energy losses in the drivetrain, allowing more power to reach the wheels, whilst simultaneously protecting precision-machined gears from the wear that occurs during high-speed cornering, acceleration, and deceleration. This is particularly important in competitive RC racing where every fraction of a second and every ounce of performance counts. The thermal stability of premium silicone fluids ensures that viscosity doesn't break down under the high temperatures generated during sustained racing, maintaining consistent differential response throughout your driving session. RC car enthusiasts who demand the best from their setups will appreciate the engineering quality that Team Losi Racing brings to this product, backed by years of racing experience and countless hours of testing on tracks worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does differential fluid do in my RC car? — Differential fluid lubricates the internal gears of your differential, reducing friction and heat generation whilst protecting delicate components from wear. The viscosity (thickness) of the fluid directly affects how your differential locks and releases, which influences your car's handling, acceleration response, and cornering behaviour. Choosing the correct viscosity is essential for optimising your RC car's performance characteristics.
  • How does 4000CS compare to other viscosity options? — Team Losi Racing produces differential fluids in multiple viscosities including 3000CS, 5000CS, 6000CS, 30000CS, and 80000CS options. The 4000CS rating sits between the lighter 3000CS and heavier 5000CS, making it suitable for moderate locking characteristics. Lighter fluids (lower CS numbers) allow more differential slip and faster lock-up response, whilst heavier fluids (higher CS numbers) create more locking and restrict slip. Your choice depends on track conditions, your car's setup, and your driving style.
  • When should I change my differential fluid? — It's good practice to inspect your differential fluid regularly and change it when it becomes contaminated with dirt, metal particles from gear wear, or water. Many competitive racers change their fluid frequently—sometimes multiple times per season—to maintain peak performance. At minimum, change it annually or whenever you notice performance degradation in how your differential responds.
  • Is this suitable for all RC cars? — This differential fluid is designed for RC cars and trucks that feature a slipper clutch or limited-slip differential requiring fluid lubrication. It's compatible with most modern RC racing cars from Team Losi Racing and many other manufacturers. However, always consult your RC car's manual to confirm the recommended differential fluid viscosity for your specific model, as some designs may call for lighter or heavier fluids.
  • What's the difference between silicone and synthetic differential fluids? — Silicone-based fluids like this one offer superior thermal stability and consistent viscosity performance across temperature ranges compared to some synthetic alternatives. Silicone formulations are also less prone to degradation from UV exposure and oxidation, providing more stable performance during storage and extended use. Team Losi Racing's selection of silicone fluids reflects the preference for this technology in competitive RC racing.
  • How much differential fluid do I need? — A typical RC differential requires only a small amount of fluid—usually between 3 to 8ml depending on the differential design. This product provides sufficient quantity for multiple differential servicing and maintenance. Always fill to the level specified in your RC car's manual to avoid over-lubrication, which can cause excessive drag and heat generation.
