Overview

The Team Losi Racing Silicone Shock Oil, 27.5WT with a viscosity rating of 294CST, represents a precision fluid engineered specifically for RC racing enthusiasts who demand consistent performance from their shock absorbers. This 2oz bottle of premium silicone shock oil is designed to deliver the exact damping characteristics required for competitive RC car racing, whether you're running a buggy, truggy, or other high-performance RC vehicle across the UK. Team Losi Racing, recognised as one of the leading manufacturers of RC racing accessories and components, has developed this shock oil to meet the stringent requirements of serious racers who understand that suspension tuning is critical to achieving optimal lap times and vehicle handling.

When you're competing in RC racing, every detail matters—from tyre compound to suspension geometry, and crucially, shock fluid viscosity. The 27.5WT rating of this silicone shock oil makes it an excellent middle-ground option for many racing conditions, offering a balance between responsiveness and control. This particular viscosity is suitable for drivers looking to fine-tune their suspension setup without committing to heavier or lighter oils. Whether you're new to shock tuning or an experienced racer optimising your setup for specific track conditions, having the correct shock oil in your pit bag is essential for making quick adjustments and maintaining consistency throughout your race day.

As part of Team Losi Racing's comprehensive range of RC accessories and fluids, this shock oil has been formulated using silicone, which provides superior stability and consistency across a wide temperature range. This means your suspension will perform reliably whether you're racing outdoors in warm summer conditions or during cooler autumn events across the UK. The 2oz bottle provides adequate quantity for multiple shock refills, making it a cost-effective solution for regular maintenance and experimentation with different viscosity options.

Key Features

  • 27.5WT Viscosity Rating — This mid-range weight classification sits between lighter and heavier oils, making it ideal for drivers seeking a balanced suspension setup that provides good initial response while maintaining consistent damping throughout the shock's travel range.
  • 294CST Centistoke Measurement — The precise viscosity measurement of 294 centistokes ensures you know exactly how this fluid will perform in your shocks, allowing for accurate comparison with other shock oil options and precise suspension tuning.
  • Premium Silicone Formula — Silicone-based shock oils offer superior thermal stability compared to mineral oils, meaning performance remains consistent even as temperatures fluctuate during extended racing sessions at your local track.
  • 2oz Bottle Size — The convenient 2oz container holds enough silicone shock oil for multiple shock refills, making it practical to carry in your pit bag and providing good value for regular racers who experiment with viscosity adjustments.
  • Team Losi Racing Quality — As part of the official TLR range of RC accessories, this shock oil has been developed by the engineers at Team Losi Racing who understand the demands of competitive RC racing and the critical role suspension plays in vehicle performance.
  • Race-Ready Application — This shock oil is specifically formulated for RC racing vehicles, making it suitable for buggies, truggy platforms, and other competition-grade RC cars where precision suspension tuning directly impacts lap times and handling characteristics.

Technical Performance

The TLR Silicone Shock Oil 27.5WT with 294CST viscosity represents a carefully engineered fluid designed to meet the specific demands of RC racing suspension systems. The viscosity rating is critical to understanding how this oil will perform in your shocks: at 27.5WT, this is classified as a medium-weight shock oil suitable for general racing conditions and drivers seeking a balanced setup. The centistoke measurement of 294CST provides the precise viscosity specification, allowing racers to make informed decisions about whether to step up to heavier oils like the 30WT (338CST), 37.5WT (468CST), 40WT (516CST), 45WT (610CST), or 50WT (710CST) options available from Team Losi Racing, or conversely to try lighter formulations. The silicone base ensures that performance remains stable across temperature variations, which is particularly important when racing outdoors in the UK where weather conditions can change throughout the day. This formulation allows racers to maintain consistent handling characteristics whether they're testing at the track in spring, summer, autumn, or mild winter conditions. The oil's thermal stability also means it won't thin out excessively during high-speed racing or thicken up in cooler conditions, providing the predictable damping response that competitive racers depend on for consistent performance lap after lap.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What viscosity shock oil do I need for my RC racing buggy or truggy? — The correct shock oil viscosity depends on your track conditions, driving style, and vehicle setup. The 27.5WT (294CST) offered here is a popular middle-weight option that works well for many racing situations. Lighter oils like 25WT provide quicker shock response, whilst heavier options like 30WT, 37.5WT, 40WT, 45WT, and 50WT offer more controlled damping for different conditions. Team Losi Racing offers a complete range to allow fine-tuning of your suspension geometry.
  • How often should I change or check my RC shock oil? — Shock oil should be checked regularly, especially after racing sessions or if you notice changes in suspension performance. Most racers inspect and potentially change shock fluid when modifying their setup for different track conditions or as part of regular maintenance schedules. Having multiple viscosity options available, as offered by Team Losi Racing, allows you to adjust your suspension without needing to purchase completely new shocks.
  • What's the difference between 27.5WT and other shock oil weights available from Team Losi Racing? — Team Losi Racing supplies shock oils in multiple weights: 25WT would be lighter for faster suspension response, 27.5WT (this product) is a balanced middle option, 30WT, 35WT, 37.5WT, 40WT, 45WT, and 50WT are progressively heavier, offering increased damping resistance and a more controlled ride. Heavier oils reduce suspension movement speed, whilst lighter oils allow faster shock response. Your choice depends on track surface, weather conditions, and your vehicle's geometry setup.
  • Is silicone shock oil better than mineral shock oil? — Silicone-based shock oils like this Team Losi Racing product offer superior thermal stability compared to mineral oils, meaning they maintain consistent viscosity across a wider temperature range. This is particularly valuable for outdoor RC racing in the UK where conditions may vary throughout a race day, ensuring your suspension performance remains predictable regardless of temperature changes.
  • Can I use this shock oil in any RC shock? — This silicone shock oil is designed for RC racing shocks and is compatible with standard RC shock absorbers. However, always verify your specific vehicle's shock specifications before refilling. If you're unsure, consult your vehicle's manual or speak with experienced racers familiar with your particular buggy or truggy model.
