Overview

The Team Losi Racing Machined Shock Pistons represent premium replacement components engineered for the TLR 22X-4 ELITE 1/10 scale electric RC buggy. These machined pistons are essential tuning parts for competitive RC car enthusiasts across the UK who demand precision-engineered components to maintain their racing machines in peak condition. Whether you're a weekend racer or a serious competitor pushing your RC buggy to its limits on dirt and clay tracks, these shock pistons allow you to fine-tune your suspension characteristics and dial in the perfect handling balance for your specific track conditions.

Shock pistons are critical components within the RC car's suspension system, controlling the flow of shock oil and directly affecting how the suspension responds to bumps, jumps and cornering forces. The TLR 333025 pistons feature a 2.3mm diameter with 2 x 1.8mm orifices, creating a specific damping profile that suits particular suspension tuning requirements. By selecting the correct piston configuration, RC racers can adjust the damping characteristics of their shock absorbers without changing the shock fluid itself, making these pistons an economical and effective tuning solution for optimising your TLR 22X-4 ELITE's performance on the track.

These components are manufactured by Team Losi Racing using the same quality standards and materials that have powered their factory racing teams to podium finishes worldwide. Each set includes two pistons, allowing you to replace both front or both rear shock pistons. For UK-based RC car racers and hobbyists serious about competition or simply wanting to maintain their equipment to the highest standards, these genuine TLR machined shock pistons are an investment in reliability and performance.

Key Features

  • Machined construction — These shock pistons are precisely machined rather than stamped, ensuring consistent quality and perfect fit within your shock bodies. Precision machining eliminates tolerances and defects that can compromise damping performance and shock reliability.
  • 2.3mm main diameter — The primary piston diameter of 2.3mm creates the main damping chamber interaction, controlling how shock oil flows through the piston and affecting the overall damping curve of your suspension setup.
  • 2 x 1.8mm orifices — The dual 1.8mm orifices provide the specific flow paths that determine how quickly the shock fluid moves through the piston during compression and rebound, directly influencing your buggy's suspension response characteristics.
  • G3 specification — This denotes the generation of TLR shock components compatible with the latest third-generation shock system used on the TLR 22X-4 ELITE platform.
  • Pair of two pistons — This set contains two complete pistons, sufficient for replacing the pistons in either both front shocks or both rear shocks on your 1/10 scale RC buggy.
  • Genuine TLR component — Manufactured by Team Losi Racing, these pistons are the same parts used and tested by TLR factory drivers competing at international racing events, ensuring they meet competition-grade standards.
  • Simple installation — Shock piston replacement is a straightforward maintenance task, allowing RC enthusiasts to perform tuning adjustments without requiring specialist tools or advanced mechanical knowledge.
  • Suspension tuning solution — By changing piston sizes and orifice configurations, racers can adjust damping without draining and refilling shock fluid, making suspension setup adjustments quicker and more economical.

Technical Performance

The TLR Machined Shock Pistons 2.3mm, 2 x 1.8mm, G3 represent precision engineering for 1/10 scale 4WD RC buggy suspension systems. These machined pistons are manufactured to tight tolerances, ensuring perfect consistency between both pistons in the set and reliable performance across hundreds of competitive runs. The specific orifice configuration (2 x 1.8mm) creates a particular damping profile suited to certain track conditions and driving styles, making them an essential tuning component for racers who want to optimise their suspension setup. The machined construction—as opposed to stamped or drilled pistons—eliminates the micro-defects and tolerance variations that can develop during lower-cost manufacturing processes, ensuring every piston functions identically to its pair. This consistency is critical in competitive RC racing, where even tiny variations in damping can affect lap times and handling balance. These pistons are compatible with the G3 shock system found on the TLR 22X-4 ELITE, a ROAR-Nationals-winning platform that has been extensively developed for championship-level performance on dirt and clay tracks. The TLR design and engineering team has created this piston configuration as part of a comprehensive shock tuning range, allowing racers to select from multiple orifice sizes to dial in exactly the right suspension character for their specific needs. Whether you require more support during aggressive cornering, softer compliance over bumpy sections, or a middle-ground setup for mixed track conditions, the range of available piston configurations—from 1.5mm to 2.0mm orifices—ensures there is a tuning option to suit your requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What do shock pistons do on an RC buggy? — Shock pistons control the flow of shock oil through the damper, determining how quickly the suspension compresses and rebounds. Different piston orifice sizes create different damping rates, allowing you to tune whether your suspension feels soft and compliant or firm and supportive. Choosing the correct piston configuration is one of the most important suspension tuning adjustments available to RC racers.
  • Are these compatible with the TLR 22X-4 ELITE? — Yes, these G3-specification pistons are designed for use with the TLR 22X-4 ELITE 1/10 scale 4WD electric RC buggy. They will fit the standard shock bodies on this platform without modification or adaptation.
  • How do I know which piston size to choose? — Piston selection depends on your track conditions, driving style, and whether you want to adjust front or rear shock characteristics. Smaller orifices (1.5mm, 1.6mm) create softer, more compliant suspension; larger orifices (1.8mm, 2.0mm) create firmer damping. Many racers start with a middle option like the 1.8mm orifices on this set and adjust based on handling feedback during practice sessions.
  • Do I need both front and rear pistons, or can I just replace one set? — You can replace just the front or just the rear pistons depending on what suspension adjustment you're targeting. Front piston changes primarily affect front-end grip and turn-in response, whilst rear piston changes affect rear stability and acceleration characteristics. Most racers experiment with adjusting one end at a time to understand the effects before making wholesale suspension changes.
  • Are these pistons used by professional TLR racers? — Yes, these pistons are part of the same shock system and tuning range chosen by TLR factory team drivers competing in international RC racing events. The exact same engineering and quality standards apply to retail replacement parts as to factory competition equipment.
  • What is the difference between these 1.8mm orifice pistons and other sizes? — The TLR Machined Shock Pistons range includes multiple orifice configurations (1.5mm, 1.6mm, 1.7mm, and 1.8mm). The 2 x 1.8mm configuration on this set creates a relatively firm damping profile compared to smaller orifices, making these pistons suitable for racers who want good support and control or who run on smooth, high-grip tracks.
  • Will replacing shock pistons improve my lap times? — Yes, if you currently have the wrong piston size installed. Optimising your suspension tuning by selecting the correct piston orifice for your driving style and track conditions can have a measurable effect on handling and lap times. These pistons allow you to explore suspension tuning options without expensive shock replacements.
