Overview

The Losi Pinion Gear 22T with 1.0M pitch and 5mm shaft (model Z-LOS242004) is an essential replacement and upgrade component for RC enthusiasts maintaining or tuning their electric-powered RC cars and trucks. Whether you're a seasoned competitor looking to fine-tune your gear ratios or a weekend basher needing to replace a worn pinion gear, this genuine Losi component delivers the precision engineering you expect from one of the industry's most respected manufacturers. Pinion gears are critical drivetrain components that directly affect your RC vehicle's acceleration, top speed and overall performance characteristics, making this a worthwhile investment in your RC hobby.

Designed specifically for Losi RC models, this 22-tooth pinion gear represents a popular tooth count choice for builders and racers across the UK RC community who want to balance acceleration with top speed capabilities. The 1.0 module pitch ensures compatibility with matching spur gears of the same specification, whilst the 5mm bore shaft fits standard motor shafts found on many modern electric RC power systems. As an authorised Losi retailer, RC Model Shop stocks genuine OEM components to ensure your RC car UK build maintains factory specifications and performance standards.

RC pinion gears wear over time through normal use, especially in high-performance applications or when running on abrasive surfaces. Having spare pinion gears in your spares box is essential for any serious RC enthusiast, allowing you to maintain consistent performance and swap out worn components quickly between race sessions or weekend bashing sessions. The 22-tooth configuration makes this gear suitable for a wide range of Losi RC models, and it's an ideal spare to keep on hand for reliability.

Key Features

  • 22 Teeth Configuration — The 22-tooth count represents a balanced gear ratio option that provides responsive acceleration whilst maintaining reasonable top speed, making it suitable for various driving conditions and model types in the RC car UK market.
  • 1.0 Module Pitch — The 1.0M pitch specification ensures precise engagement with compatible spur gears, delivering smooth power transfer and minimising drivetrain noise and wear during operation across all driving styles.
  • 5mm Shaft Bore — The 5mm diameter shaft bore accommodates standard motor shafts found on most modern brushless and brushed electric RC motors, ensuring easy installation and perfect fit within your existing drivetrain.
  • Genuine Losi Manufacturing — As an original equipment manufacturer component, this pinion gear meets Losi's exacting quality standards for material composition, tooth profile and dimensional accuracy, guaranteeing performance and longevity.
  • Precision Tooth Design — The gear features professionally cut teeth that mesh smoothly with spur gears, reducing backlash and maximising efficiency in power delivery to your RC vehicle's wheels.
  • Durable Construction — Built from quality materials selected for strength and wear resistance, this pinion gear withstands the stresses of acceleration, braking and cornering without premature tooth stripping or damage.

Technical Performance

The Losi Pinion Gear 22T represents precision engineering at the heart of your RC drivetrain system. With 22 teeth and a 1.0 module pitch, this component delivers the exacting tolerances required for smooth, efficient power transfer in modern electric-powered RC cars and trucks. The 5mm shaft bore provides a secure fit on standard motor shafts used across the RC hobby industry, from entry-level brushed systems to high-performance brushless RC setups. The gear's construction ensures reliable meshing with matching spur gears of identical module pitch, minimising friction losses and maintaining consistent acceleration characteristics throughout your driving session. Pinion gear selection directly influences your RC vehicle's performance envelope — tooth count affects the balance between acceleration response and maximum velocity, making this 22-tooth option a versatile choice for builders seeking moderate performance across various track conditions. Whether you're upgrading from a worn component or experimenting with gear ratio adjustments to optimise your RC car's handling characteristics, this genuine Losi part delivers the quality and reliability expected from an OEM component. The precision manufacturing ensures each tooth engages perfectly with spur gear teeth, reducing play and delivering responsive, predictable handling that allows drivers to explore their vehicle's full potential.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the 22-tooth pinion gear tooth count mean for my RC car's performance? — The 22-tooth count represents a mid-range option in the pinion gear selection spectrum. Fewer teeth (such as 20T or 21T) provide faster acceleration and higher top speed but with reduced torque, whilst more teeth deliver increased torque and acceleration with slightly reduced maximum velocity. The 22-tooth configuration offers a balanced compromise, making it suitable for diverse driving conditions and styles in the RC hobby.
  • Is this pinion gear compatible with all Losi RC models? — This gear is designed for Losi models that utilise 5mm motor shafts and 1.0 module pitch gearing. Compatibility depends on your specific model, so we recommend checking your vehicle's manual or contacting our expert team to confirm this component matches your RC car's specifications.
  • What is 1.0 module pitch and why does it matter? — Module pitch refers to the gear tooth size specification, determining how the pinion gear meshes with your vehicle's spur gear. A 1.0M pinion gear must be paired with a 1.0M spur gear for proper engagement. Mismatching module pitches results in poor mesh, increased wear, noise and potential drivetrain failure, so precise specification matching is essential.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear lifespan depends on driving intensity, surface conditions and maintenance. High-performance racing and abrasive track conditions wear gears faster than casual weekend bashing. Inspect your pinion gear regularly for worn or chipped teeth and replace if damage is visible. Having spare gears available ensures you can maintain consistent performance between replacement cycles.
  • Can I use this pinion gear to modify my RC car's performance? — Yes, pinion gear tooth count adjustments represent a simple yet effective performance tuning method. Swapping from your current pinion gear to a 22-tooth version changes your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics. This tuning approach is popular amongst RC competitors seeking to optimise performance for specific track layouts or driving conditions.
  • What tools do I need to install this pinion gear? — Installation typically requires basic RC hobby tools including hex keys or screwdrivers suited to your motor bell housing fasteners, and a pinion gear removal tool or suitable alternative for safe extraction of the existing gear. Our experienced team at RC Model Shop can advise on proper installation techniques if required.
