Overview
The Losi Pinion Gear, 18T, 0.5 MOD, 2mm Shaft (Z-LOS212022) is a precision replacement pinion gear designed for Losi 1/16 scale RC buggies and buggies. As an essential drivetrain component, this pinion gear is engineered to deliver reliable performance and smooth power delivery from your brushed or brushless motor to the main transmission. Whether you're maintaining your RC buggy UK or upgrading a worn drivetrain, this genuine Losi part ensures optimal gear mesh and longevity. The 18-tooth configuration provides the ideal balance between acceleration and top speed for competitive and recreational driving alike.
This pinion gear is manufactured by Losi, a brand recognised worldwide for producing high-quality RC components and ready to run RC vehicles. The 0.5 MOD (modulus) specification indicates precise engineering standards that guarantee compatibility with Losi's drivetrain systems. With a 2mm shaft bore, this pinion gear interfaces seamlessly with standard Losi motor shafts, making it an ideal replacement for enthusiasts maintaining their 1/16 brushless RC buggies or brushed models. RC hobbyists across the UK trust Losi parts for their durability and performance consistency.
Pinion gears are critical to your RC car's performance. A worn or damaged pinion gear can cause loss of efficiency, increased noise, and reduced top speed. By installing a genuine Losi replacement pinion gear, you restore your vehicle to factory specifications and maintain the precise gear ratios that Losi engineers designed into your model. This part is compatible with multiple Losi 1/16 Mini models, making it an essential item for any RC enthusiast's spare parts collection.

Technical Performance
The Losi Pinion Gear Z-LOS212022 represents precision engineering at the heart of your RC drivetrain. With 18 teeth and a 0.5 MOD specification, this pinion gear is manufactured to exacting tolerances that ensure minimal backlash and smooth meshing with the spur gear. The 2mm shaft bore is sized to fit standard Losi motor shafts without play or wobble, which is critical for maintaining efficiency and reducing wear on both the pinion and main transmission gears. The precision machining of the tooth profile ensures that power is transmitted smoothly from your brushed or brushless motor to the wheels, whether you're running a brushed 2WD mini buggy or one of Losi's brushless RTR models. For 1/16 scale RC cars operating in competitive environments or recreational bashing scenarios, drivetrain quality directly impacts acceleration response, top speed consistency, and drivetrain longevity. This genuine Losi pinion gear is the correct specification for restoring factory performance to your Mini JRX2, Mini-B Brushed or Mini-B Brushless model. Regular inspection and timely replacement of worn pinion gears is essential maintenance for any dedicated RC enthusiast, and this part ensures you maintain the performance characteristics your Losi RC buggy was engineered to deliver.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a pinion gear and why does my RC buggy need one? — A pinion gear is the small gear mounted on your motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. It's essential because it transfers power from your motor to your wheels. Over time, pinion gears wear and develop tooth damage, causing loss of efficiency, increased noise, and reduced performance. Replacing a worn pinion gear restores smooth power delivery and is one of the most common maintenance tasks for RC car enthusiasts.
- Is this pinion gear compatible with my Losi 1/16 RC buggy? — This pinion gear is specifically designed for the Losi 1/16 Mini JRX2 Brushed 2WD Buggy, Losi 1/16 Mini-B Brushed RTR 2WD Buggy, Losi 1/16 Mini-B 2WD Buggy Brushless RTR in Blue, and Losi 1/16 Mini-B 2WD Buggy Brushless RTR in Red. If you own one of these models, this is the correct replacement pinion gear. Always verify your model number before purchasing.
- Can I use this pinion gear with both brushed and brushless motors? — Yes, this pinion gear is compatible with both brushed and brushless Losi motor setups in 1/16 scale. The tooth profile and bore are universal across Losi's 1/16 Mini range, regardless of motor type. What matters is that your motor shaft is 2mm diameter and your vehicle uses 0.5 MOD drivetrain components.
- What does 0.5 MOD mean and why does it matter? — MOD (modulus) is a measurement that defines gear tooth size and spacing. 0.5 MOD gears have smaller, finer teeth compared to larger modulus gears. This specification must match your existing drivetrain components — if your spur gear is 0.5 MOD, your pinion gear must also be 0.5 MOD. Using mismatched moduli will result in poor gear mesh, excessive backlash, and drivetrain failure.
- How often should I replace my RC buggy's pinion gear? — Pinion gear lifespan depends on how frequently you drive and the conditions (indoor smooth surfaces versus outdoor rough terrain). Inspect your pinion gear regularly for chipped or worn teeth. If you notice noise, reduced acceleration, or increased vibration, it's time for replacement. For competitive drivers, preventative replacement every season is common practice.
- Will this pinion gear fit my motor shaft without needing to modify anything? — The 2mm shaft bore is designed to fit standard Losi motor shafts directly. Installation is straightforward — simply slide the gear onto the motor shaft and secure it with the appropriate clip or set screw (typically included with motor kits). No modification is required if you're replacing a worn gear with this genuine Losi part.
