Overview

The BLH Tail Rotor Shaft with Aluminium Drive Pulley Gear (Z-BLH1665A) is an essential replacement and upgrade component designed specifically for the Blade B450 helicopter platform. This precision-engineered part represents a critical component in your helicopter's tail rotor drive system, ensuring smooth, reliable operation and responsive tail control during flight. Whether you're a seasoned RC helicopter pilot looking to maintain peak performance or someone rebuilding after an accident, this genuine Blade part delivers the quality and durability you need to keep your B450 flying at its best.

As an authorised Blade dealer in the UK, RC Model Shop stocks genuine factory parts that meet the exact specifications your B450 helicopter was designed for. The tail rotor shaft and drive pulley assembly work together to transmit power from your main motor through the tail drive belt system, enabling precise tail rotor speed control and ensuring stable, predictable helicopter handling. A worn or damaged tail rotor shaft will result in sloppy tail response, poor gyro stability, and an aircraft that becomes increasingly difficult to control. By choosing genuine Blade parts, you're investing in the reliability and safety of your helicopter platform.

This component is particularly important for pilots who fly their B450 regularly or in challenging conditions. The aluminium drive pulley gear has been engineered to withstand the demands of continuous tail rotor operation whilst remaining lightweight enough to minimise rotational inertia and vibration. RC helicopter flying in the UK has grown significantly in popularity over recent years, and maintaining your equipment with quality replacement parts is the best way to extend the life of your investment and ensure consistent, enjoyable flights.

Key Features

  • Aluminium Drive Pulley Gear Construction — The drive pulley is precision-machined from high-quality aluminium alloy, providing an excellent balance between strength and light weight that reduces vibration and improves tail rotor responsiveness compared to heavier steel alternatives.
  • Genuine Blade Component — This is an original equipment manufacturer part from Blade Helicopters, ensuring perfect compatibility with your B450 and reliability backed by the manufacturer's quality standards.
  • Designed for the B450 Helicopter Platform — Engineered specifically for the Blade B450, this shaft and pulley assembly integrates seamlessly with your helicopter's tail drive system, main rotor hub, and thrust bearing arrangement.
  • Critical Tail Rotor Control System Component — The tail rotor shaft is fundamental to helicopter control authority, directly affecting tail response speed, gyro stability, and overall aircraft handling characteristics during hovering and forward flight.
  • Replacement and Upgrade Part — Use this part as a direct replacement when your original shaft becomes worn or damaged, or as an upgrade component when rebuilding your helicopter to factory specifications after repairs or maintenance.

Technical Performance

The tail rotor shaft with aluminium drive pulley gear represents precision helicopter engineering at its finest. The shaft itself is a hardened steel component that has been precisely dimensioned to work with the B450's tail gearbox and bearing assemblies, whilst the aluminium pulley provides the driving engagement point for the tail drive belt. This dual-material approach—hardened steel for durability and aluminium for efficiency—is the result of years of Blade helicopter development experience. The aluminium construction of the pulley gear minimises rotational mass, allowing your tail rotor to respond more quickly to gyro corrections and transmit power more efficiently from the main motor through the tail drive belt system. The engineering tolerances are extremely tight to ensure smooth operation and minimal play, which directly translates to crisp, predictable tail control response. For UK pilots operating their B450 helicopters in variable conditions, from calm indoor flying to outdoor operations in windy weather, maintaining this critical component in perfect condition is essential for safe, controlled flight.

What's in the Box

  • 1x Tail Rotor Shaft with Aluminium Drive Pulley Gear for Blade B450

What You Need to Complete

To properly install this tail rotor shaft on your Blade B450 helicopter, you will also require the following components:

  • BLH1662A — Painted Canopy assembly for structural integrity and weight distribution
  • BLH1663A — Main Grip Thrust Bearing Set for rotor head support and smooth rotation
  • BLH1661A — Main Rotor Hub for proper blade mounting and cyclic control transmission
  • BLH1672C — Carbon Fiber Stabilizer Fin Set to work with this shaft assembly in the tail system

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does the tail rotor shaft do on a Blade B450 helicopter? — The tail rotor shaft transmits rotational power from the main motor through the tail drive belt to spin the tail rotor blades. The integrated aluminium drive pulley gear engages with the tail drive belt, controlling the speed and torque delivered to your tail rotor. This is critical because without proper tail rotor speed, your helicopter will experience poor tail response, gyro instability, and difficulty maintaining heading control. A damaged or worn shaft means sluggish, unpredictable tail behaviour that can make your helicopter unsafe to fly.
  • How do I know if my tail rotor shaft needs replacing? — Signs that your B450's tail rotor shaft may need replacement include sluggish or delayed tail response, tail wagging or instability, visible cracks or bending in the shaft, or excessive play between the shaft and bearing blocks. If you've experienced a hard landing or tip-over, it's always worth inspecting the tail rotor shaft closely, as impacts can bend or crack this component even if damage isn't immediately obvious.
  • Is this a genuine Blade part? — Yes, this is an original Blade Helicopters component manufactured to the exact same specifications as the part that came with your B450. When you purchase genuine Blade replacement parts from RC Model Shop, you're getting factory-backed components with the same quality control and engineering that goes into every new helicopter.
  • What is the difference between aluminium and steel pulleys? — The aluminium drive pulley used on this shaft is lighter and more efficient than alternatives, which reduces vibration and allows your tail rotor to respond faster to control inputs. Aluminium also dissipates heat more effectively than some heavier materials. Steel alternatives would be more robust in some ways but would add unnecessary weight and rotational inertia, making the helicopter's tail feel sluggish and less responsive to your gyro's stabilisation efforts.
  • Can I upgrade from an older B450 shaft to this component? — If you have an older Blade B450 helicopter, this genuine Blade component should be compatible provided your helicopter uses the standard B450 tail system configuration. However, we always recommend checking your helicopter's specific manual and part diagrams before ordering. The RC Model Shop team are happy to help identify the correct parts—simply contact us with your helicopter's model number.
  • What is the best way to install this shaft? — Tail rotor shaft replacement should be performed carefully with the helicopter in a safe, well-lit workspace. Support the helicopter securely, remove the tail boom clamps and drive belt alignment guides, then gently slide out the old shaft. Insert the new shaft, ensuring smooth engagement with the bearing blocks and proper pulley alignment with the tail drive belt. Refer to your Blade B450 instruction manual for detailed step-by-step guidance, or contact us for technical support.
