Overview
The Axial Panhard Bar and Links, Standard for the SCX10 III, is an essential chassis upgrade for any RC rock crawler enthusiast in the UK. This precision-engineered suspension component is designed to keep your axle properly centred during extreme off-road adventures, ensuring optimal performance across challenging terrain. Whether you're a seasoned competitor navigating technical courses or a weekend basher exploring the great outdoors with your RC car UK, this Panhard Bar system delivers the stability and control you need for consistent, predictable handling.
As part of Axial's comprehensive range of suspension solutions for the legendary SCX10 III platform, this Panhard Bar and Links assembly represents a genuine OEM spare part that maintains the factory specifications your vehicle was engineered around. The SCX10 III has established itself as one of the most capable 1/10 scale rock crawlers available, and maintaining its suspension geometry with authentic Axial components is crucial for preserving that legendary performance. If your current setup is showing wear, or if you're rebuilding your crawler to factory specification, this is the component you need.
The Panhard Bar system works as part of a 3-link suspension design, a suspension configuration that uses three links to attach the axle assembly to the chassis and allow for movement. In a 3-link setup, a track bar—also known as a Panhard Bar or Panhard Link—is essential for keeping the axle properly centred and preventing lateral movement. This component is particularly important during rock crawling, where axle centring directly impacts steering precision, articulation, and overall vehicle stability on uneven terrain.
Key Features
- Genuine Axial OEM Component — This is an official Axial replacement part, not an aftermarket alternative, ensuring it meets the exact specifications and tolerances that the SCX10 III engineering team designed into the vehicle. Using genuine parts preserves your vehicle's performance characteristics and reliability.
- 3-Link Suspension Compatibility — The Panhard Bar is specifically designed to work within a 3-link suspension configuration, a setup that uses three links to attach the axle assembly to the chassis and allow for controlled movement. This design is typically used for front suspensions when the steering servo is mounted to the chassis.
- Axle Centring Function — The primary purpose of this Panhard Bar is to keep your axle properly centred, preventing unwanted lateral shift that would compromise steering response and articulation. Proper axle centring is absolutely critical for maintaining the precise handling characteristics your SCX10 III needs on technical rock crawling courses.
- Rock Crawling Performance — In extreme rock crawling scenarios where suspension articulation is pushed to its limits, a quality Panhard Bar keeps your axle geometry consistent. This translates to predictable steering, better body control, and improved ability to navigate obstacles without the vehicle pulling to one side.
- Direct SCX10 III Fit — This component is designed as a direct replacement for the standard Panhard Bar system on the SCX10 III platform, ensuring perfect fitment without modification or additional engineering. Installation is straightforward for anyone with basic RC maintenance experience.
- Suspension Articulation Support — Suspension articulation—the amount of suspension travel allowed and an axle's ability to move vertically—is maximised when the axle is properly centred by a quality track bar. This component helps ensure your suspension can articulate fully without binding or misalignment.
Technical Performance
The Axial Panhard Bar and Links system represents precision engineering tailored specifically to the SCX10 III's suspension architecture. This is a structural chassis spare part designed to integrate seamlessly with the standard axle configuration on the SCX10 III platform. The Panhard Bar system consists of the bar itself plus supporting link components, all engineered to maintain precise axle centring geometry throughout the full range of suspension movement. In rock crawling applications where suspension articulation is extreme—with wheels moving independently up and down as the vehicle navigates obstacles—maintaining proper axle location becomes critical. Even small deviations in axle position can cause steering deflection during suspension compression (a phenomenon known as bump steer), reduce cornering precision, and compromise the vehicle's ability to navigate tight gates during competition. The standard specification ensures your SCX10 III maintains the geometry it was originally designed with, preserving factory performance across all terrain types. Whether you're running a leisurely trail with friends or competing in technical rock crawling events, having a genuine, properly functioning Panhard Bar is essential for reliable performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does a Panhard Bar do on an RC rock crawler? — A Panhard Bar, also known as a track bar, is a suspension component that locates an axle assembly in a 3-link suspension setup. Its primary function is to keep the axle properly centred, preventing unwanted lateral movement that would compromise steering response and suspension articulation. In rock crawling, where suspension is pushed through extreme articulation over obstacles, a quality Panhard Bar ensures the axle stays centred, maintaining predictable handling and steering precision.
- Is this a genuine Axial part? — Yes, this is an official Axial OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) component, not an aftermarket alternative. It carries the official Axial part number Z-AXI234033 and is specifically engineered to factory specifications for the SCX10 III platform.
- What vehicles is this compatible with? — This standard specification Panhard Bar is compatible with multiple SCX10 III variants, including the SCX10 III Pro, SCX10 III Base Camp, SCX10 III Coyote, SCX10 III 1987 Toyota SR5, SCX10 III Jeep JT Gladiator with Portals, SCX10 III Jeep CJ-7, and the SCX10 III Early Ford Bronco. If you own any RTR (Ready to Run) or Builders Kit version of the SCX10 III platform, this component will fit.
- When would I need to replace my Panhard Bar? — You should consider replacing your Panhard Bar if it shows visible damage, bending, or if you notice symptoms like bump steer (steering deflection when suspension is compressed), inconsistent axle location, or steering that feels unpredictable during suspension compression. Regular inspection is good practice if you're an active rock crawler.
- How does this differ from a 4-link suspension setup? — A 3-link suspension (which uses this Panhard Bar) attaches the axle to the chassis with three links and a track bar for centring. A 4-link suspension uses four links to attach the axle to the chassis without requiring a separate track bar for centring. The 3-link with Panhard Bar is the standard configuration for the SCX10 III, particularly when the steering servo is mounted to the chassis.
- What is suspension articulation and why does my Panhard Bar matter for it? — Suspension articulation refers to suspension movement—specifically, an axle's ability to move vertically (left wheel up, right wheel down, or vice versa) relative to the chassis. A quality Panhard Bar keeps your axle centred through this vertical movement, ensuring the axle doesn't shift laterally and cause steering or handling problems. This is absolutely critical in rock crawling where extreme articulation is constant.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — This is a replacement spare part, so it's best suited for owners who already have an SCX10 III and need to service or repair it. If you're new to RC rock crawling and don't yet own an SCX10 III, you would benefit from purchasing a complete ready to run RC vehicle first, then adding spare parts like this as you gain experience with maintenance.
