Key Features
- 48 Pitch Specification — The 48-pitch rating ensures this gear is compatible with other 48-pitch components in your drivetrain, allowing you to maintain consistent gear meshhing and performance across your RC vehicle's transmission system.
- 15-Tooth Configuration — The 15-tooth design provides a specific gear ratio that affects your vehicle's acceleration and top speed characteristics, making this an ideal choice for fine-tuning performance to suit different racing conditions and driving styles.
- 2.3mm Motor Shaft Compatibility — This pinion gear is specifically engineered to fit 2.3mm motor shafts, ensuring a secure and precise fit that prevents slippage and guarantees reliable power transfer from your brushless or brushed motor to your vehicle's drivetrain.
- Genuine Axial Component — As an official Axial part, this pinion gear meets the manufacturer's exact specifications and quality standards, ensuring durability and long-term reliability in demanding RC driving conditions.
- Precision Engineering — Each tooth is precisely machined to ensure smooth engagement with mating gears, reducing noise, vibration and wear whilst maximising the efficiency of your RC vehicle's power delivery system.
- Easy Installation — The straightforward design makes replacement quick and hassle-free, allowing you to get back to enjoying your RC model without extended downtime or complicated procedures.
Technical Performance
The AXIAL Pinion Gear 48P 15T 2.3 Motor Shaft is manufactured to exacting standards using quality materials that withstand the rigorous demands of RC driving. The 48-pitch specification positions this gear within the standard sizing used across many modern RC vehicles, making it compatible with a wide range of Axial models and other RC platforms that utilise 48-pitch drivetrain components. The 15-tooth design is a popular configuration that balances acceleration and top speed — fewer teeth mean faster acceleration but potentially lower top speed, whilst this mid-range tooth count provides a versatile setup suitable for various driving conditions. The 2.3mm motor shaft diameter is a common standard in the RC hobby, particularly for 540-sized brushless motors and similar configurations found in competitive and recreational RC vehicles throughout the UK. The gear's precision-cut teeth ensure minimal backlash when properly meshed with your spur gear, which is critical for maintaining responsive handling and consistent performance during high-speed runs and technical courses. This component plays a vital role in your RC vehicle's overall drivetrain efficiency, helping to translate motor power into wheel rotation with minimal energy loss.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What models is the AXIAL Pinion Gear 48P 15T 2.3 Motor Shaft compatible with? — This pinion gear is designed to fit Axial RC vehicles that feature 2.3mm motor shafts and utilise 48-pitch drivetrain components. Compatibility depends on your specific model, so check your vehicle's documentation or contact our knowledgeable team at RC Model Shop to confirm whether this gear will work with your particular RC car.
- How do I install this pinion gear on my RC vehicle? — The installation process typically involves removing your existing pinion gear from your motor shaft, then sliding the new Z-AX31533 gear onto the shaft and securing it in place according to your vehicle's specifications. Your model's instruction manual will provide specific guidance on proper installation, shaft preparation and securing methods to ensure the gear doesn't slip during operation.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears wear over time due to constant friction and engagement with your spur gear, particularly if you regularly drive your RC vehicle. Worn teeth can cause slippage, reduced performance, and increased noise. Replacing your pinion gear with a quality component like the Z-AX31533 restores smooth power delivery and maintains your vehicle's performance characteristics.
- What is the difference between 48-pitch and other pitch ratings? — Pitch refers to how many gear teeth fit into one inch of gear diameter. A 48-pitch gear has more teeth packed into a smaller diameter compared to lower pitch ratings like 32-pitch. This affects overall drivetrain ratios and compatibility — 48-pitch gears are standard in modern 1/10-scale RC vehicles, whilst different scales and models may use different pitch specifications. Always ensure your pinion and spur gears match in pitch rating.
- How often should I replace my pinion gear? — The lifespan of a pinion gear depends on driving frequency, driving style and maintenance practices. Regular drivers who maintain their vehicles properly might expect several months of use before wear becomes noticeable, whilst casual drivers may use the same gear for much longer. Inspect your gear periodically for tooth wear and damage — if teeth appear rounded or flattened, it's time for a replacement.
- What difference will switching to a 15-tooth pinion make to my RC car's performance? — Your choice of pinion tooth count directly affects your vehicle's gear ratio and performance profile. A 15-tooth pinion paired with your spur gear creates a specific ratio that influences acceleration responsiveness and top speed. To understand the exact impact on your vehicle, you'll need to know your spur gear's tooth count — your model's documentation will provide this information, and our team can help you calculate the overall drivetrain ratio.
