Key Features
- 48 Pitch Module (48P) — This pitch specification defines the tooth profile and size of the gear, ensuring perfect compatibility with other 48 pitch components in your Axial drivetrain system. Using the correct pitch is essential for smooth engagement, reduced wear, and optimal power transmission between drivetrain components.
- 60 Tooth Count (60T) — With 60 teeth, this spur gear is engineered to work within Axial's tested gear ratio configurations, influencing your RC vehicle's acceleration, top speed, and overall performance balance. The tooth count directly affects how your motor's power is distributed to the wheels.
- Genuine Axial Manufacturing — Manufactured by Axial, a recognised leader in RC vehicle design and engineering, this part meets the exacting standards expected by experienced RC hobbyists and collectors. Genuine Axial components ensure compatibility and longevity that aftermarket alternatives cannot guarantee.
- Drivetrain Spare Part Classification — As a core drivetrain component, this spur gear is fundamental to your RC vehicle's performance and reliability, making it an essential item to keep in your RC parts box for maintenance and upgrades.
- Direct OEM Replacement — This part is a direct factory replacement for Axial RC models, meaning it installs seamlessly without modification and performs exactly as the manufacturer intended, restoring your vehicle to original specifications.
Technical Performance
The AXIAL Spur Gear 48P 60T represents precision engineering designed for the demanding requirements of RC car UK enthusiasts. Manufactured from durable materials selected for their strength and wear resistance, this spur gear withstands the continuous stresses of motor power transmission, acceleration cycles, and sustained driving sessions. The 48 pitch specification is a standard measurement within the RC hobby, indicating the tooth profile and size relative to other drivetrain components, whilst the 60 tooth count determines the gear ratio when paired with a pinion gear on the motor shaft. For those building or modifying their RC setup, understanding gear ratios is crucial: higher tooth counts provide greater torque and acceleration but lower top speed, whereas lower tooth counts offer increased speed at the expense of acceleration. The precise manufacturing tolerances ensure that tooth engagement with the pinion gear remains smooth and efficient, reducing mechanical losses and extending component lifespan. Whether you're running a brushless motor setup or exploring different gearing combinations to suit your driving terrain and style, having genuine Axial spur gears ensures your drivetrain operates at peak efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is a spur gear and why does my RC car need one? — A spur gear is a fundamental drivetrain component that transfers rotational power from your motor to the wheels via the transmission system. It works in conjunction with a pinion gear mounted on the motor shaft; as the motor spins, the pinion gear drives the spur gear, which then drives the wheels. The tooth count on both gears determines your vehicle's gear ratio, which influences acceleration, top speed, and overall performance characteristics. Replacing a worn or damaged spur gear is essential for maintaining smooth power delivery and reliable operation.
- What does 48P mean on this spur gear? — The 48P designation refers to the pitch of the gear teeth. Pitch is a standardised measurement in RC engineering that defines the size and profile of the gear teeth. Components with matching pitch specifications work together seamlessly; using a 48P spur gear requires a 48P pinion gear on your motor. Mixing different pitch specifications can cause poor engagement, increased wear, and reduced performance.
- How do I know if I need to replace my spur gear? — Signs that your spur gear may need replacement include visible tooth damage or wear, excessive noise during operation, slipping or grinding sensations during acceleration, or reduced overall performance. Regularly inspecting your drivetrain during maintenance helps identify wear early, allowing you to replace components before catastrophic failure occurs.
- Does gear tooth count affect my RC car's performance? — Absolutely. The tooth count on your spur gear directly influences your vehicle's performance profile. This 60 tooth spur gear provides a specific balance within Axial's tested configurations. If paired with a smaller pinion gear (fewer teeth), the overall gear ratio decreases, which increases top speed but reduces acceleration and torque. Conversely, pairing it with a larger pinion gear increases the ratio, improving acceleration and hill-climbing ability but reducing maximum speed. Experimenting with different tooth counts allows you to tune your RC car UK to match your driving style and terrain requirements.
- Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, if you're already familiar with basic RC maintenance and drivetrain component replacement. Installing a spur gear requires removing the transmission housing and carefully positioning the gear on its shaft before reassembly. If you're new to RC maintenance, we recommend consulting your vehicle's manual or asking our experienced team at RC Model Shop for guidance on proper installation techniques.
- Will this fit my Axial RC model? — This is a genuine Axial part (Z-AX31513) designed for Axial vehicles that use 48 pitch drivetrain components. To confirm compatibility with your specific model, check your vehicle's manual or contact RC Model Shop. Our team can help you identify the correct spur gear specification for your particular Axial RC car.
