Overview
The ARRMA 29T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear (Model Z-ARA311091) is an essential transmission component for RC enthusiasts looking to fine-tune the performance of their 1/8 scale RC vehicles. Whether you're a dedicated basher, a weekend racer, or someone looking to optimise your RC car's gear ratio, this precision-engineered pinion gear offers the durability and accuracy you need for consistent performance on the track or off-road terrain. As an authorised ARRMA retailer in the UK, RC Model Shop stocks this genuine replacement part to help you maintain and upgrade your RC setup with confidence.
This tough steel pinion gear is specifically designed for 1/8 scale RC vehicles that utilise a 3.175mm (1/8 inch) motor shaft diameter. The 29-tooth configuration provides a specific gear ratio that can be paired with various spur gears to achieve the exact performance characteristics your RC car demands. Whether you need more acceleration or top speed, adjusting your transmission ratio with quality pinion gears like this is one of the most effective tuning methods available to RC car owners in the UK and beyond.
Built from strong and durable steel and manufactured using precision CNC machining processes, this pinion gear is engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of competitive racing, bashful driving, and high-performance RC operations. The professional-grade construction and meticulous attention to detail make it a reliable choice for anyone serious about getting the best from their ARRMA 1/8 scale RC vehicle.
Key Features
- CNC Precision Machined Construction — This pinion gear is manufactured using computer numerical control (CNC) machining, which ensures incredibly tight tolerances and perfect tooth profile geometry, guaranteeing smooth meshing with your spur gear and eliminating unwanted vibration or noise during operation.
- High-Quality Steel Material — Made from strong and durable steel, this pinion gear is engineered to handle extreme RC conditions including high torque loads, aggressive acceleration, and sustained high-speed running, providing long-lasting performance that outlasts inferior materials.
- Wide Tooth Profile Design — The wide tooth profile is engineered for smooth operation and optimal power transfer from your motor to the drivetrain, reducing mechanical stress and extending the service life of both the pinion gear and the corresponding spur gear.
- 1/8 Inch Motor Shaft Compatibility — This gear is precisely designed to suit 1/8 inch (3.175mm) motor shaft diameters, ensuring a perfect fit on compatible ARRMA 1/8 scale RC vehicles without the need for bushings or adapters.
- Laser-Etched Tooth Count — The pinion gear is marked with its tooth count (29T) using laser etching for easy identification, allowing you to quickly identify the correct gear during maintenance, tuning, or storage without confusion.
- Precision Threaded Set-Screw Hole — The gear features a professionally manufactured threaded hole for the M4 x 4mm set screw, ensuring secure mounting on your motor shaft with no risk of stripping or loosening during hard acceleration and braking.
- Included Set Screw — The M4 x 4mm set screw is supplied in the package, meaning you have everything you need to install this pinion gear immediately without purchasing additional fasteners.
Technical Performance
This 29-tooth pinion gear operates at 0.8 module pitch, a standard specification for 1/8 scale RC vehicles that ensures compatibility with appropriately designed spur gears and motor mounts. The steel construction provides exceptional durability compared to aluminium or plastic alternatives, which makes it ideal for high-torque applications where reliability is paramount. The CNC machining process guarantees that each tooth is cut to precise specifications with perfect profile angles, resulting in quiet, efficient operation with minimal backlash. When paired with the correct spur gear ratio, this pinion will determine your vehicle's acceleration characteristics and top-end speed capability. For example, running a smaller pinion (fewer teeth) gives you more acceleration and lower top speed, whilst a larger pinion (more teeth) reduces acceleration but increases maximum velocity. The 29-tooth specification offers a balanced middle-ground option suitable for general-purpose driving, street bashing, and off-road use. The precision-engineered set-screw hole with its M4 threading provides a secure mechanical lock that prevents the gear from slipping on the motor shaft during aggressive throttle application or sudden deceleration. This is critical for maintaining consistent gear meshing and preventing internal drivetrain damage. UK-based RC enthusiasts will appreciate the quality control standards that ARRMA maintains in manufacturing these components, ensuring that every gear meets strict international specifications for tooth accuracy and material composition.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What ARRMA 1/8 scale RC vehicles is this pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear is specifically designed for ARRMA 1/8 scale vehicles that feature a 1/8 inch (3.175mm) motor shaft bore. The source confirms fitment to the ARA4215V3 1/8 INFRACTION 4x4 RTR as standard parts, and it will be compatible with other ARRMA 1/8 scale models using the same motor mounting specification. Always check your vehicle's specifications before purchasing to confirm motor shaft diameter compatibility.
- How do I install this pinion gear on my RC vehicle? — The pinion gear slides onto your motor's 1/8 inch shaft and is secured using the included M4 x 4mm set screw. The set-screw hole is precision threaded, so you simply tighten the screw firmly against the flat section of your motor shaft to lock the gear in place. Ensure the set screw is tight enough to prevent slipping but do not over-tighten, as this can damage the threads or shaft.
- What is the difference between a 29T pinion and other tooth counts? — Pinion gears come in various tooth counts, typically ranging from 16T to 50T for 1/8 scale vehicles. A 29-tooth pinion represents a mid-range option that balances acceleration and top speed. Smaller pinions (fewer teeth) provide quicker acceleration but lower maximum velocity, whilst larger pinions (more teeth) deliver higher top speed but reduced acceleration. The 29T specification is ideal for mixed-use driving including street bashing and general-purpose RC use.
- Is this a genuine ARRMA part? — Yes, the ARRMA 29T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear is a genuine OEM part manufactured by ARRMA with part number ARA311091. As an authorised ARRMA retailer, RC Model Shop stocks only authentic components that meet ARRMA's strict quality standards.
- Do I need any tools to install this pinion gear? — You will need a hex key or Allen wrench suitable for the M4 set screw (typically a 3mm hex key) to tighten the gear onto your motor shaft. Most RC enthusiasts already have this basic tool in their maintenance kit. No special tools or equipment are required.
- Can this pinion gear be used as a replacement or upgrade? — This gear can be used as both a replacement for a damaged pinion and as a tuning upgrade to change your vehicle's gear ratio and performance characteristics. If you are replacing a worn or damaged gear, select the same tooth count to maintain your current performance. If tuning, experiment with different tooth counts within your vehicle's compatible range to achieve your desired acceleration and top speed balance.
