Overview

The ARRMA 22T 0.8Mod 1/8" Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear is a precision-engineered transmission component designed for high-performance RC vehicles. This replacement pinion gear is manufactured from tough, durable steel to withstand the extreme demands of competitive racing and weekend bashing alike. Whether you're upgrading your RC car UK setup or replacing a worn component, this genuine ARRMA part delivers the reliability and performance you expect from an authorised manufacturer.

This pinion gear is engineered specifically for 1/8 scale RC vehicles and features a 1/8 inch (3.2mm) bore designed to fit standard motor shafts found in many brushless RC cars and trucks. The 0.8 module pitch ensures smooth, precise meshing with your spur gear, providing consistent power delivery and minimal drivetrain noise. If you're serious about getting the best from your brushless RC setup, quality transmission components like this pinion gear are essential to maintaining peak performance.

The 22-tooth configuration makes this gear suitable for a range of driving styles and conditions. Whether you're running a ready to run RC buggy, a competitive racing platform, or a high-speed monster truck, selecting the correct pinion tooth count is crucial for optimising your vehicle's acceleration, top speed, and overall driveline efficiency. ARRMA's commitment to precision manufacturing means you can trust this component to deliver season after season.

Key Features

  • CNC Precision Manufactured — This pinion gear is manufactured using CNC machinery to exacting tolerances, ensuring a precision-engineered tooth profile that meshes smoothly with your spur gear for reliable power transmission and minimal wear.
  • Tough Steel Construction — Made from strong and durable steel, this pinion gear is built to withstand the extreme RC conditions you'll encounter whether you're bashing in the garden, racing on the track, or competing at high speed.
  • 1/8 Inch Bore (3.2mm) — The 1/8" bore is compatible with standard motor shafts used in many 1/8 scale RC vehicles, ensuring a secure fit and reliable power transfer from your brushless motor to the drivetrain.
  • 22-Tooth Specification — The 22T tooth count provides a balanced gearing setup suitable for various driving applications, helping you achieve optimal acceleration and speed characteristics for your RC vehicle.
  • 0.8 Module Pitch — The 0.8 mod specification ensures compatibility with matching spur gears and delivers smooth, quiet operation when properly meshed in your transmission.
  • Includes M3 x 4mm Set Screw — Each gear comes with the necessary M3 x 4mm set screw for secure fastening to your motor shaft, ensuring the pinion stays locked in place during high-performance driving.
  • Genuine ARRMA Component — This is an authorised ARRMA part, guaranteeing genuine quality and compatibility with ARRMA RC vehicles and transmission systems designed for this specification.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA 22T 0.8Mod 1/8" Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear represents the high engineering standards ARRMA applies to their drivetrain components. CNC precision manufacturing ensures that the tooth profile is cut to exact specifications, which is critical for smooth meshing between the pinion and spur gear. This precision reduces backlash—the unwanted play between gear teeth—which would otherwise translate into loss of power delivery efficiency and increased mechanical noise. The steel construction provides excellent durability for sustained high-speed running and shock loads that occur during aggressive acceleration and cornering. The 0.8 module pitch is a standard specification in the RC industry, meaning this gear will work reliably with any matching 0.8 mod spur gear. The 22-tooth count positions this as a versatile middle-ground option in ARRMA's pinion range, suitable for drivers who want balanced performance characteristics. Whether you're running a competition-grade 1/8 scale buggy, a brushless RC truggy, or a high-speed monster truck, proper gearing selection using quality components like this steel pinion ensures your transmission operates efficiently and reliably. The inclusion of the M3 x 4mm set screw means you have everything needed for installation—simply slide the gear onto your motor shaft and tighten the set screw securely to prevent slippage during acceleration.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a pinion gear and why do I need to replace it? — The pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your RC motor shaft that transfers power to the larger spur gear in your transmission. Over time, pinion gears can wear down, strip teeth, or break under heavy use. Replacing it with a quality CNC steel component like this ARRMA gear restores power transmission efficiency and prevents drivetrain damage. If you're experiencing drivetrain noise, power loss, or teeth breaking off your current pinion, replacement is essential.
  • Is this pinion gear compatible with my ARRMA RC vehicle? — This 22T 0.8 module 1/8" bore pinion gear is designed for 1/8 scale ARRMA RC vehicles with standard motor shafts. If your ARRMA model uses 1/8" scale sizing and brushless motors with 3.2mm shafts, this gear should be compatible. Always verify your current pinion specification before ordering to ensure correct fitment.
  • What is the difference between 0.5 mod and 0.8 mod pinion gears? — The module specification refers to the pitch (tooth spacing) of the gear. 0.5 module gears have finer, more closely-spaced teeth suited to smaller 1/10 scale vehicles, while 0.8 module gears have larger teeth designed for the greater torque demands of larger 1/8 scale RC cars and trucks. Using the correct module for your scale ensures proper meshing with your spur gear. The 0.8 module is standard for 1/8 scale racing and bashing vehicles.
  • How many teeth should I choose for my RC vehicle? — Tooth count dramatically affects your vehicle's performance characteristics. Lower tooth counts (16-18T) provide higher top speed but less acceleration and require more motor RPM. Higher counts (24-27T) give stronger acceleration and lower top speed. The 22T in this gear offers balanced performance for general driving, racing, and bashing. Your choice depends on whether you prioritise speed or acceleration, track layout, and your vehicle's motor KV rating.
  • Can I use this pinion gear with any spur gear? — No, you must use a matching 0.8 module spur gear for proper meshing. Using different modules or damaged gears will result in poor power transmission, excessive noise, vibration, and rapid wear. Always ensure your spur and pinion gears are the same module specification.
  • What is the purpose of the M3 x 4mm set screw? — The set screw locks the pinion gear securely onto your motor shaft to prevent slippage during high-acceleration runs. Without proper tightening, the gear could rotate freely on the shaft, losing all power transmission. The set screw must be tightened firmly but not over-tightened, which could damage the motor shaft.
  • Is this suitable for both racing and recreational bashing? — Yes, the tough steel construction and precision manufacturing of this ARRMA pinion gear make it suitable for competitive racing environments and weekend bashing. Whether you run track events or batter your RC car around the garden and local terrain, this component is engineered to handle both scenarios reliably.
  • How often should I replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gear replacement frequency depends on usage intensity, maintenance, and driving conditions. Competitive racers might replace their pinions every few months, whilst casual bashers might get 6-12 months of use. Inspect your pinion regularly for signs of tooth damage, cracks, or excessive wear. Replace immediately if you notice stripped teeth or performance degradation.
