Overview

The ARRMA Pinion Gear, 14T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel is a precision-engineered transmission component designed for serious RC enthusiasts who demand reliability and performance from their RC car UK setups. Whether you're running a ready to run RC model or maintaining a competition-level machine, this replacement pinion gear represents the quality engineering ARRMA is recognised for throughout the RC hobby community. The 14-tooth configuration makes this an ideal upgrade or replacement part for a range of ARRMA vehicles, from the popular 1/10 scale models like the Fury, Gorgon and Vorteks, through to 1/8 scale machines including the Infraction and Typhon series.

This tough steel pinion gear is the perfect part to carry in your RC toolbox, offering the durability and precision needed for both casual weekend bashing and demanding off-road racing. The CNC steel construction ensures consistent performance across multiple runs, whilst the precision manufacturing process means you can rely on smooth, efficient power delivery from your motor to the drivetrain. For RC car enthusiasts in the UK seeking genuine ARRMA parts that will stand up to extreme RC conditions, this pinion gear delivers the quality and longevity you expect from the brand.

At RC Model Shop, we stock this essential drivetrain component because we know that having quality replacement parts on hand is part of being a serious RC hobbyist. Whether you've worn out your original gear through extended running, want to experiment with gear ratios for performance tuning, or simply need spares for race day, the ARRMA 14T Pinion Gear gives you the peace of mind that comes with using genuine manufacturer components.

Key Features

  • Strong and durable steel construction — Manufactured from high-quality steel, this pinion gear is built to handle the extreme stresses of RC driving, whether you're powering through mud, sand or tarmac. Steel gears resist stripping and maintain their tooth profile even after extensive use, ensuring reliable performance season after season.
  • Precision CNC machined — Every gear is computer numerically controlled during manufacturing, which means each tooth is cut to exact specifications for perfect mesh with your spur gear. This level of precision ensures smooth power transmission, reduces noise and vibration, and minimises wear on both the pinion and spur gears.
  • Wide tooth profile for smooth operation — The tooth design has been engineered to provide a larger contact patch with the spur gear, distributing forces more evenly across the gear teeth. This design philosophy reduces shock loads, improves efficiency and contributes to longer overall drivetrain lifespan.
  • Suits 1/8 inch motor shaft diameter — The 3.175mm (1/8 inch) bore is the standard shaft size for 1/8 scale RC motors, making this gear compatible with a broad range of ARRMA models and other manufacturers' 1/8 scale vehicles. The precision bore ensures a tight, secure fit that prevents slipping under load.
  • Laser etched tooth count identification — Each gear is marked with its tooth count, making it simple to identify which pinion you're using at a glance. This is invaluable when managing multiple gears for different setups or when troubleshooting performance issues.
  • Precision manufactured threaded set-screw hole — The M4 x 4mm set-screw hole is precisely engineered to allow secure fastening to your motor shaft. A properly secured pinion is critical for consistent performance and safety during high-speed running.
  • M4 x 4mm set screw included — Rather than making you source fasteners separately, ARRMA includes the correct set screw in the package, so you can install your new gear immediately without additional purchases.

Technical Performance

The ARRMA 14T Pinion Gear represents a 14-tooth option in the 0.8 module pitch standard, which is the industry-recognised specification for 1/8 scale RC vehicle drivetrains. The 0.8 module specification defines the gear pitch and tooth spacing, ensuring compatibility with spur gears designed to the same standard. With 14 teeth, this pinion sits in the middle-ground of the gear ratio spectrum, offering a balance between acceleration and top speed that suits a variety of driving styles and terrain conditions. For comparison, ARRMA also offers 12-tooth options for those seeking higher top speeds, and larger tooth counts for maximum acceleration. The CNC steel manufacturing process ensures that metallurgical properties are consistent throughout the gear, with no weak points or imperfections that could lead to premature failure under the high-speed, high-torque conditions that RC vehicles experience. The wide tooth profile design is a result of extensive engineering, allowing the gear to handle the rapid acceleration and aggressive driving styles common in RC racing and bashing. The precision bore of 3.175mm ensures a perfect fit on 1/8 inch motor shafts, with no play or wobbling that could cause vibration or misalignment. Whether you're running a brushed or brushless motor, the 14T pinion will deliver consistent power transmission and efficient energy transfer from your motor to the wheels. This gear is suitable for use across the full range of ARRMA 1/8 and select 1/10 scale models, including the Infraction 4x4, Typhon Mega, Fury and Gorgon series vehicles.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What RC vehicles is this 14T pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear is listed as a standard part for numerous ARRMA models, including the 1/10 Fury 2WD, Gorgon 2WD, Granite Mega, Vorteks 2WD, and the 1/8 Infraction 4x4 and Typhon Mega. It is also available as an optional part for these vehicles, meaning you can use it as an upgrade or replacement. The 1/8 inch bore diameter and 0.8 module pitch make it compatible with any ARRMA model designed for this specification, and potentially with other manufacturers' 1/8 scale vehicles using the same standards.
  • Is this suitable for beginners? — Yes, this pinion gear is a straightforward replacement part that any RC enthusiast, from beginner to advanced, can install. If you're getting into RC car UK hobby and your vehicle needs a drivetrain replacement, this is a genuine OEM part from a recognised manufacturer. The inclusion of the set screw and the clear laser-etched tooth count make installation straightforward, though you'll need basic tools and a motor shaft to work with.
  • What is a pinion gear and why would I need to replace it? — The pinion gear is a small gear mounted on your RC motor shaft that meshes with the larger spur gear in your transmission. It transmits rotational power from the motor to the drivetrain. You would replace a pinion gear if the original has become worn, damaged, or stripped (where the teeth have become rounded or chipped). Some hobbyists also carry spare pinions to experiment with different gear ratios, which affects acceleration and top speed. A 14T pinion offers mid-range performance characteristics, so swapping to a 12T would increase top speed at the expense of acceleration, whilst a 16T would do the opposite.
  • What is the difference between 0.8 module and other module sizes? — Module is a metric measurement that defines the gear pitch and tooth spacing. The 0.8 module specification is industry-standard for ARRMA 1/8 scale vehicles. A smaller module number (like 0.6) would have finer, smaller teeth, whilst a larger module (like 1.0) would have larger teeth. You must match the module of your pinion to your spur gear — mixing different modules will result in poor mesh and drivetrain damage. The 0.8 module is the correct specification for ARRMA 1/8 scale models.
  • Is this CNC steel gear better than plastic or softer metals? — Absolutely. Steel is significantly more durable than plastic gears, resisting stripping and tooth wear far better. CNC machining means each gear is produced to exacting tolerances, ensuring precise tooth profiles and consistent performance. For anyone who runs their RC regularly or in demanding conditions, a quality steel gear like this ARRMA component is a worthwhile investment that will outlast lower-quality alternatives by a considerable margin.
  • Will this gear fit my brushless motor? — Yes, this pinion gear will work with both brushed and brushless motors of 1/8 scale size with a 1/8 inch (3.175mm) shaft diameter. The gear itself doesn't care whether the motor is brushed or brushless — it simply transfers the rotational power. Make sure your motor shaft diameter matches the 3.175mm bore specification.
