Overview
The ARRMA 12T 0.8Mod 1/8 inch Bore CNC Steel Pinion Gear is an essential replacement and upgrade component for serious RC enthusiasts running ARRMA 1/8 scale vehicles. This precision-engineered pinion gear is manufactured to exacting standards by ARRMA, one of the world's leading RC car brands, and represents a critical drivetrain component for anyone looking to maintain peak performance or customise their RC car setup. Whether you're a competitive racer, a weekend basher, or an experienced hobbyist, having quality pinion gears on hand ensures your RC vehicle remains in top condition and ready for action.
This 12-tooth steel pinion gear is specifically designed for 1/8 scale RC applications, making it compatible with a wide range of ARRMA 1/8 models and other vehicles that utilise the same drivetrain specifications. The CNC steel construction ensures superior durability and precision compared to plastic alternatives, meaning you get reliable performance lap after lap, whether you're competing on the track or bashing in the park. For RC car enthusiasts across the UK, having genuine ARRMA replacement parts like this pinion gear on hand is an investment in reliability and longevity.
The gear's 0.8 modulus rating and 3.2mm bore make it a direct fit for vehicles designed with these specifications, ensuring smooth mesh with your spur gear and optimal power delivery through the drivetrain. At just £9.49, this is an affordable way to maintain your RC setup or experiment with different gear ratios to fine-tune your vehicle's performance characteristics.
Key Features
- CNC Steel Construction — Unlike plastic gears that can strip or wear quickly, this pinion gear is machined from high-quality steel using precision CNC processes, delivering exceptional durability and resistance to wear even under heavy use and repeated impacts during bashings or racing sessions.
- 12-Tooth Configuration — The 12-tooth design balances acceleration and top speed effectively, making this gear suitable for a variety of driving conditions and styles, from track racing to general recreational bashing across the UK.
- 0.8 Modulus Rating — The 0.8 mod specification ensures precise tooth geometry that meshes smoothly with compatible spur gears, reducing noise, minimising backlash, and optimising power transfer through your RC car's drivetrain.
- 3.2mm Bore — The 1/8 inch bore diameter (3.2mm) ensures a secure fit on standard 1/8 scale motor shafts used across the ARRMA range and compatible RC vehicles, preventing slippage and maintaining consistent performance.
- Genuine ARRMA Component — As an official ARRMA product, you can be confident this pinion gear meets the manufacturer's strict quality standards and will integrate seamlessly with your ARRMA RC car without compatibility issues.
- Direct Replacement Part — Whether your original pinion gear has worn down or you're looking to experiment with different gear ratios, this part is ready to install without modification or adjustment, saving you time and frustration.
Technical Performance
The ARRMA 12T 0.8Mod CNC Steel Pinion Gear represents the pinnacle of drivetrain precision engineering for 1/8 scale RC applications. Manufactured using precision CNC machining processes, the steel construction provides hardness and durability far superior to injection-moulded plastic alternatives commonly found on budget RC cars. The 12-tooth configuration strikes an excellent balance for 1/8 scale vehicles, offering strong acceleration characteristics whilst maintaining respectable top-speed potential depending on your spur gear ratio. The 0.8 modulus specification ensures tooth profiles are mathematically optimised for smooth engagement with compatible spur gears, reducing audible noise and mechanical stress whilst maximising the efficiency of power transfer from motor to wheels. With a 3.2mm bore diameter, installation onto standard 1/8 scale motor shafts is straightforward and secure, with no risk of slippage or misalignment. This level of precision is essential for competitive racers who demand consistent performance, but equally valuable for recreational bashers who want their RC car to remain reliable and responsive through seasons of use. The CNC manufacturing process ensures every tooth is identically profiled, eliminating the variance sometimes found in plastic gears and guaranteeing smooth, predictable performance every time you take your RC vehicle out.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What ARRMA vehicles is this 12T pinion gear compatible with? — This pinion gear is designed for ARRMA 1/8 scale vehicles that utilise a 3.2mm motor shaft bore and 0.8 modulus gearing system. Compatibility depends on your specific ARRMA model, so we recommend checking your vehicle's manual or contacting our expert team at RC Model Shop to confirm compatibility before purchasing.
- Why would I need to replace my pinion gear? — Pinion gears wear naturally over time through regular use, particularly the teeth which gradually flatten and lose their precise profile. Additionally, if you've had a significant crash or impact, your pinion gear may have chipped or cracked teeth. Replacing a worn pinion gear restores smooth power delivery and prevents damage to your spur gear. Many racers also keep spare pinion gears on hand for quick swaps at the track.
- Can I use this 12T gear to change my RC car's performance? — Yes, pinion gear teeth count directly affects your vehicle's gearing ratio. A 12-tooth pinion (compared to alternatives like 13T or 14T) provides more acceleration but slightly lower top speed. By swapping pinion gears, you can fine-tune your RC car's performance to suit different track layouts or driving conditions. Our team can advise on the best ratio for your needs.
- How do I install this pinion gear on my RC car? — Installation typically involves removing your motor, sliding off the old pinion gear, and sliding the new one onto your motor shaft. Most ARRMA vehicles use a set screw to secure the gear in place. Detailed installation instructions should be included with your vehicle's manual. If you're unsure, we recommend visiting RC Model Shop in person or consulting with our experienced staff.
- Is CNC steel better than plastic pinion gears? — Absolutely. CNC steel pinion gears are significantly more durable, resistant to wear, and maintain their tooth profile longer than plastic alternatives. Steel gears also mesh more smoothly with spur gears, reducing noise and improving efficiency. For competitive racing or serious recreational use, steel is the standard choice across the RC hobby.
- What is the 0.8 modulus rating? — Modulus (mod) is a measurement of gear tooth size and spacing. The 0.8 modulus specification ensures the teeth on this pinion gear have the correct size and profile to mesh smoothly with compatible 0.8 mod spur gears. Using mismatched modulus gears can cause poor meshing and drivetrain damage.
