Overview

The LOGIC Heat Shrink (1m Clear) 70mm is a premium quality heat shrink tubing designed for RC enthusiasts and electronics professionals who need reliable cable and component protection on a larger scale. With its generous 70mm diameter, this clear heat shrink tubing is perfect for bundling and protecting larger wiring looms, battery packs, receivers and other electronics assemblies commonly found in RC cars, boats, aircraft and helicopters. Whether you're building an RC buggy in the UK, setting up a brushless motor system, or tidying up your RC model's internal wiring, this versatile tubing offers professional-grade protection and a clean, finished appearance that maintains visibility of labels and connections underneath.

Supplied in an approximately 1 metre length, the LOGIC Heat Shrink tubing is flexible, flame retardant and engineered to withstand demanding RC applications. The clear finish is particularly valued by RC modellers who want to see their neatly bundled wiring and colour-coded connections without compromising on protection. From ready-to-run RC trucks and crawlers to custom-built models requiring meticulous cable management, this heat shrink tubing delivers the reliability and professional appearance that discerning RC enthusiasts demand.

The LOGIC brand is recognised throughout the RC hobby community as a trusted manufacturer of essential accessories and consumables. This heat shrink tubing combines practical functionality with ease of use—simply place it over your cables or components, apply gentle heat, and watch it shrink down to create a snug, protective fit that keeps moisture, dust and damage at bay. It's an essential accessory for any RC model builder's workbench.

Key Features

  • 70mm Diameter Size — The 70mm nominal expanded dimension makes this ideal for larger cables, battery pack wrapping, receiver protection and bundling multiple wires together in RC vehicles and electronics projects. This generous size ensures you can comfortably work with thicker components without needing smaller diameter tubing.
  • Clear Finish — The transparent material allows you to see labels, colour coding and connections beneath the shrink wrap, helping maintain visibility of your circuit layout and wiring scheme whilst still providing full protective coverage. This is particularly valuable when troubleshooting or maintaining your RC model.
  • 1 Metre Length — Supplied as an approximately 1m length, giving you substantial material for multiple applications, repairs or projects. This length is perfect for both large single-application wrapping and smaller component protection across multiple builds.
  • Flexible Construction — The tubing remains flexible and easy to work with, making it simple to fit over curved cables, irregular shapes and awkwardly positioned components in confined RC chassis spaces without cracking or splitting during installation.
  • Flame Retardant Properties — Built with flame retardant characteristics, this heat shrink tubing provides an added safety layer for RC electronics, particularly important in models using lithium batteries or high-power brushless motor systems where thermal management is critical.
  • Low Smoke if Burned — Should the tubing be exposed to extreme heat, it produces minimal smoke, making it safer for use in enclosed RC models and aircraft where ventilation is limited. This is an important safety consideration for high-performance RC applications.
  • 3:1 Shrink Ratio — The tubing features approximately 3:1 shrinkage, meaning a 70mm tube will shrink down to around 23-24mm, providing a snug, secure fit that won't slip or separate under vibration or impact during RC operation.
  • Operating Temperature Range — Rated for safe operation from -45°C to 125°C, ensuring the protective properties remain effective across the full range of UK weather conditions and temperature extremes that RC models may encounter.
  • Shrink Temperature 125°C — Activates at 125°C, achievable with a standard heat gun, hair dryer on high setting, or soldering iron, making application straightforward without requiring specialised equipment.

Technical Performance

The LOGIC Heat Shrink 70mm tubing is engineered to professional standards using high-quality polymer materials that deliver reliable performance in demanding RC applications. With its 3:1 shrink ratio, the 70mm nominal expanded inner diameter—approximately 20% larger than stated to accommodate various cable thicknesses—will recover to around 23-24mm when properly heated, creating a compression-fit seal that won't migrate under vibration. The lay flat size of approximately 110mm (calculated as 70mm × 1.57) makes it simple to judge fit before applying heat. Operating across an impressive temperature range from -45°C to 125°C ensures the tubing maintains its protective properties whether you're running winter RC car races in cold UK weather or using your model in heated indoor environments. The shrink activation temperature of 125°C is deliberately moderate, allowing safe activation with readily available heat sources without risk of damaging underlying components or nearby electronics. The flame retardant construction and low-smoke characteristics make this tubing suitable for safety-critical applications, from protecting ESC (electronic speed controller) connections in brushless RC cars to insulating high-voltage battery connectors in larger RC models. The clear finish is particularly valuable for RC builders who need to maintain visibility of colour-coded wiring schemes, component labels and connection points whilst still providing comprehensive mechanical protection against abrading, moisture ingress and accidental contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What size heat shrink do I need for my RC model? — LOGIC Heat Shrink sizes are quoted as nominal expanded dimensions, with the internal diameter approximately 20% larger than the nominal size. The shrink ratio is approximately 3:1, so a 70mm tube will recover to around 23-24mm. To choose the right size, measure the diameter of your cable or component, then select a heat shrink size roughly 10-20% larger. For large battery packs or bundling multiple cables, the 70mm option is ideal. For reference, 1.5mm-15mm sizes suit small signal wires and servo connectors, whilst 50mm, 70mm and 90mm are designed for larger assemblies.
  • How do I apply LOGIC Heat Shrink tubing correctly? — Slide the heat shrink tubing over your cable or component, positioning it where needed. Using a heat source such as a heat gun, hair dryer on high setting, or carefully applied soldering iron heat, warm the tubing evenly until it reaches approximately 125°C activation temperature. You will see the tubing begin to shrink and contract around the underlying component. Apply heat gradually and evenly to avoid damage. The tubing will shrink to approximately 23-24mm in this 70mm size, creating a snug protective fit.
  • Is LOGIC Heat Shrink suitable for battery pack protection? — Yes, this is one of the most popular applications. Many RC enthusiasts wrap their LiPo battery packs with 50mm, 70mm or 90mm clear heat shrink to keep cell arrangement consolidated, protect terminals from accidental shorts, and add a professional finished appearance. The flame retardant properties add an extra safety margin when working with lithium batteries.
  • Will the clear heat shrink discolour or become opaque over time? — LOGIC Heat Shrink tubing maintains its clarity through normal RC use. If exposed to prolonged direct sunlight or extreme UV exposure, some slight yellowing may occur over months, but this does not affect protective properties. For indoor models or regularly used RC vehicles, the clear finish remains transparent indefinitely.
  • What is the lay flat size and why does it matter? — The lay flat (or flat width) measurement is approximately 110mm for 70mm heat shrink (calculated as the inner diameter multiplied by 1.57). This is useful when ordering, as it tells you the width of the tubing when squashed flat, helping confirm you have selected the correct size before opening the packaging.
  • Can I use LOGIC Heat Shrink on high-power RC applications with brushless motors? — Absolutely. The -45°C to 125°C operating temperature range and flame retardant properties make this tubing ideal for protecting ESC connections, motor leads and battery terminals in brushless RC cars, trucks and boats. The low-smoke characteristic if burned is particularly valuable for high-power applications where thermal management is critical.
  • Is 1 metre of 70mm heat shrink enough for my project? — The 1 metre length provides substantial material. For a single battery pack wrap, this is sufficient. For bundling an entire RC chassis wiring loom, you may need multiple metres depending on complexity. Consider ordering additional spools if undertaking a comprehensive interior rebuild, or combine 70mm tubing with smaller diameter options (15mm, 50mm) for different components.
